This is the sound that the hollow body guitar was made for. George Thorogood is the most dynamic live performer I ever saw on stage. This man could really work a crowd.
0:46 Ride On Josephine 6:49 Cocaine Blues 9:49 It Wasn't Me 16:24 I’m Just Your Good Thing 21:11 Madison Blues 26:56 New Hawaiian Boogie 32:13 Who Do You Love 36:51 No Particular Place To Go 44:16 Johnny B Goode
I saw George Thorogood live at an outdoor festival. He wrapped a Bandana around his head and was ready to rock. He rocked the crowd with his slide guitar and charisma for over an hour! He would not quit! Here he even did a few Chuck Berry Duck Walks. He’s one of the few who knows how to do it right! One great song after another! He’s great live and I thought that’s real rock n roll. No Gimmicks! A bad attitude and a slide and a few power chords. When people heard the slide for Bad to the Bone they went nuts! Good times!
On the back of watching this on a black and white telly I went to the record shop and the fella made a phone call and told me it had been imported and I could pick it up next weekend. I was listening to the Stones, Zep, Floyd, Dylan, but this geezer for some obscure reason introduced me into Blues in a rebellious way. Then I came across Rory Gallagher and Robert Johnson etc. and it gave me a broad spectrum and horizon with Music. All of 17 years young and I feel so lucky that that any genre of music if it's good lifts my heart and soul 40 + years down the line .Thankyou Mr Thorogood.
I saw him live at a summer festival once. He had a Bandanna on his head and he rocked the place! One hour of pure Rock n Roll! I thought, now that’s Rock n Roll! What a player and showman! He plays a mean slide guitar! 🎸 Everyone was drained after the show. We were tired but it was a good tired! He wore everyone out! 👏🏻🎸😎
Liked this band when it was a trio. The sax in the newer lineup sounds great and all, but George's early set up was killer. The energy these guys put out was intense.
If this dude had turned up at my Scottish college, I’d have dropped out and hit the road with him, and my beat up old strat, and my beer bottle slide. Grew up on this, absolutely awesome- thanks for posting this video, it truly encapsulates the raw nature of the destroyers, and shows future generations this is how it was done. Lonesome George could teach his idols ( the Rolling Stones, Beatles, American master blues men like screaming Jay Hawkins) a few things. Definitely earned his place in the hall of fame, absolute legend!🤣
Just found this. I have seen him dozens of time since the late 70s. Some of the best concerts. Never disappointed! Although his later ones over the few year you can tell age has really caught up with him. That has not stopped me from being a fan!
Saw George just 8 weeks prior to this show. He did 2 nights at the Cabooze Bar in Minneapolis. Two sets each night. Was there both nights. Got all 3 guys to autograph my copy of "Move It On Over" LP. Still got it. Have seen them another 4 times since, but it was never as good as those first 2 nights.
George Thorogood is part of my Top 5 of best concerts I have ever seen! The mid 1990's at Sun Tan Lake (no more) in Riverdale, NJ. Hot Tuna opened beautifully, but George and the Destroyers kicked MAJOR ASS! Sounded so good! He OWNED that stage!!!
Saw George thorogood it was 79 or 80 at the UCLA Royce Hall theater students all stayed in their seats, my friend little Joe and I stood in front of the stage by ourselves most of the show, have always look for old footage of George thorogood, this is the first I've found, thanks for sharing💙🍺🌮🌮
Seen George in 1990 I believe we got there late the crowd that could not get in smashed all the plate glass windows out front we sat in front row in front of speakers I ripped my ticket in half put them in my ears high octane show he played for 2 1/2 hours great show queen e in Vancouver
Saw George/Destroyers, yes in Delaware in 78 or 79. Link Wray opened. Destroyers brought the house down! So glad this place served beer, me and Rob being just out of H.S. RIP Rob Morris...
Definition of ROCK & ROLL. What George lacks in technique and chops he more than makes up for in ego, attitude, sheer energy and unmatched showmanship!
I know, I know I just said it but this is a Awesome upload Calum W91 TY. This is early George and he couldn't be anymore 100% awesome here. I love this.
Man! I never saw this before! I’m a fan & saw them in concert during my College 1975-1979. Saw them in Europe several times , but this recording of fabulous talent is so over the Top!! Man. Love y’all. ( tell anyone to hear ) I was from Columbus, Ga, by went out on U.S. & Europe. GREAT!! Nothing like this today!!!!
I remember watching this when it was first broardcast, I was at college then playing in a band so I was well into this sort of thing at the time. He just blew me away. I just searched for this in the vain hope it was here, can't believe I've actually found it. I'm so grateful you uploaded it.
Ha! We were there when George came up through the bars and clubs in the Philly area. I didn't think there were any videos of the original trio. This was it. Thanks George!
Wow! From the early days! What a great performer. He can really create a good sound. Before saxofones... Great performance before he started to perform as a slide guitarist. wow!
He puts his iconic copper slide on at 21:15 and leaves it on for Madison Blues, Delaware Slide, and Who Do You Love. I'm pretty sure it goes back to his earliest days. I saw him in the mid 70s at JC Dobbs on South Street in Philadelphia and he was already using it.
I was studying at Hatfield Poly at the time , some friends of mine had tickets and I went along with them - I'm somewhere at the back waving a West Ham scarf about .
I went to a bush party in western Canada c. 1982 and when 'Madison Blues' was played (loudly) over someone's stereo, the 500 or so people present started jumping just like 24:57
The presenter at the beginning, giving the introduction, "... the album called Move It On Over ...". Then a few seconds later, it's funny the way George moves right in at his wrap-up, he's thinking "Yeah, move it on over, ya windy Englishman!"
Funny how I can still remember that intro 42 years later [ I was somewhere towards the back / middle ] and yeah , George just strode onto the stage as if to say ' This is my concert , you've had your say ' .
Love him doing this love all his lives but disappointed that I'm just your good thing is the only live one on here I can't find no other lives make no sense all his other songs are but I will cherish this one forever cuz the first time I heard this song I'm just your Good Thing❤❤❤❤❤ I would be your good thing for sure George just love you you're handsome sexy you got it all I'm very sorry that you lost your wife but she was lucky to have you for as long as she did much love respect on tons of hugs but I would still be your woman❤
No Sax, or Second guitarist. In my opinion George and The Delaware Destroyers, never sounded better. I saw part of this show on T.V as a 17 year old & I snapped up his albums and singles.
When The Destroyers first started, they sounded more like a blues with a punk edge trio, but it didn't feel bluesy enough until Hank "Hurricane" Carter stepped into the fray.
