They blew up a building that's only 25 years old? What an incredible waste. People worry about pollution, but they don't mind creating massive amounts of waste by throwing away a perfectly good stadium. Absolutely idiotic.
What is the cost of this explosive demolition vs. dismantling?? You'd have think that most of the material would have been reusable if they didn't destroy it.
The roof, actually, was pretty bad. Dangerous, even, as parts of it collapsed into the empty seats in 1995 (hard enough to break CONCRETE), and two holes were torn into it in 2008, causing a major delay in that game, and causing the tournament to be moved to another stadium entirely for the rest of the games. Thankfully, noone was injured in any incident, but it was a real concern with the stadium.
@@rebeccacummings6697 lol. What? He literally followed up with saying it was completely gone. It did not go off without a hitch. Neither did the explosives. If they had, it all would have fell. 😂
Rest in peace Georgia Dome you will be greatly missed but the Georgia Dome I will remember when you host wrestlemania 27 at the Georgia Dome "Rip Georgia Dome"
I remember WrestleMania 27! The Undertaker fought Triple H for the second time on the Grandest Stage of Them All and he even came out to Johnny Cash! One of my favorite WrestleMania entrances of all time! So sad to see the Georgia Dome gone.
You could tell the structure was out of date, last time I went there, the bathroom floors were sticky and trash was overflowing the trash bins. It looked more like a 60s or 70s stadium than a 90s stadium.
Don't listen to those other people, he "knew" because the whole thing was a setup. he probably practiced what he was gonna say before the demolition even happened.
NoirSavant The State of Georgia owned the old one. Now the Falcons own the second. Arthur Blank the owner of the falcons wanted to make money off the stadium instead of the state making money.
@@thisseagamer8165 honestly the Ga Dome wasn't structurally sound. Although it was only 25 years old, the building had rundown very quickly. A lot of problems from the get go. I think it was more so thrown together because the previous owner of the Falcons wanted the team to have their own stadium and threatened to move the team if they didn't get one. So the state kinda rushed it.
Wow they built the new stadium first then blew up the old one that’s 20 feet away... that’s horrible planning. You’re lucky they didn’t damage the new stadium
that actually makes me feel kinda sad, i went to that stadiums many time, last time in 2015.... i don't see the point of blowing up a building as beautiful as this one and with only 25 years of existence.... what a waste
In a terrible neighborhood...I had my car stolen and abandoned there by a junkie in 1990...the benevolent city of Atlanta then towed my car to their storage WITHOUT notifying me and CHARGED me over $300 for the privilege even though I never wanted them to do that...lived in Atlanta 1990-1992 and hated it...just a terrible place
The Georgia public (state and local moneys: bonds, taxes etc.) will cover half the cost ($600 million) of this Goliath which is coming in at 40% cost over-runs BTW. Ya'll paying for a chunk whether ya'll wanted it or not.
Looked around. Indeed the people of Georgia are paying well over half a billion for it.www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/sep/29/why-are-georgia-taxpayers-paying-700m-for-a-new-nfl-stadium Taxpayers are paying for Atlanta's stake, as well as all the bonds sold to fund it as well.
I was going to my testing site when this was happening ... Always remember the battle of the bands and my high school year when tucker made it to the dome and won championship. Damn man memories #OLDATL
That's the stadium that got hit by a tornado several years back. What saved a lot of lives that day was a basketball shot that extended the game which kept people from being in the parking lot when it hit. There is/was a video here on YT that had a slow motion replay of that shot, and people were pointing out that there was some anomilies on how the ball moved, like some invisible force was somehow manipulating it. I'm not religious, but I feel there was something supernatural going on that day.
I knew someone had died in the Georgia dome but I had no idea that someone died in the metrodome. Also the Georgia, Silver, RCA and Metrodomes all had that tarp like feature on the roof so that being said there are no more tarp like domes in America.
So sad. To those who are responsible, I say this: We will not rest. We will not relent. We will find you, and we will bring you to justice. You will have no safe haven, and the loved ones of those lost will receive closure.
Notice the prevailing wind carried the probably toxic dust to the new dome next to it.New stadium probably smells. Blow the thing earlier or later when wind direction is favorable?
you guys see those 2 sections of wall left intact on the front? like a couple of buckteeth? did they actually leave those standing on purpose or was it supposed to come down like the other 'teeth' in a domino fashion?
Some of y’all need to watch the video he said it was planned for 9 months and they wanted to make sure it falls on itself SO HOW WAS IT A INSIDE JOB IF IT WAS PLANNED FOR 9 MONTHS
This dude said there's no damage to the Mercedes Stadium meanwhile its engulfed in dust so I'm assuming he can see through the dust to know its not sustained any damage he can also confirm that nobody was hurt without even being there.
I feel the Georgia Dome should have been kept, but renovated into a production facility for DreamWorks Animation It's not uncommon for a defunct sports venue to be repurposed for things other than Sports (The Summit in Houston and the Montreal Forum come to mind)
The old Jarry Park in Montreal is now a tennis stadium that hosts an ATP Masters 1000 event every other year. They built the stadium and the area surrounding it into a tennis complex.
“Only place in the world to host the olympics super bowl and final four” he does realize that two of the three events don’t happen anywhere outside of the U.S. so its not really a something to brag about😂😂
Jalen unknown i know thats what I’m saying, it’s nothing to be proud of bc the super bowl and final four only happen in the USA so of course it’s not surprising that they’re the only stadium in the world to have done so
They imploded the Georgia Dome when it was 25 years old. They could not have picked a better time. One year for every point of a lead the Falcons had in that years super bowl
WTC had a lot more force behind it's collapsing. The dome dropping includes the time it took for all the (separate) explosions to go off. WTC had floors collapsing on top of each other which built up speed (gravity, duh). Also, this dome didn't take as long as WTCs did, don't know what footage you're watching.
Stardust Galaxyblade we should just light it on fire and watch it fall in free fall speed . Georgia Dome had 29 stories "Tall" and hollow but took 12 seconds to collapse. WTC7 never hit by a plane at 47 stories tall with SOLID STEEL and over 70 inner support columns of framing falls in 1/4th the time BECAUSE OF FIRE AND EXTERIOR DAMAGE . I lived in NYC during the attack and worked in construction while I still work for a steel company with my Bachelors in Metallurgy. Any fool can see WTC 7 was the fuck up for whomever planned this atrocity. How about the small hole in the Pentagon ( heaviest surveillance interface) has only one grainy video released to this day?
...Or, they could have just preserved the stadium and relocated the Atlanta United FC team [whom is planning to have their own stadium built] there ya know. But I'm no entrepreneur.
the fact that the vast majority of stadiums are built on the backs of taxpayers worked into state budgets i.e. The new minnesota stadium and the planned soccer stadium. FACT
What a joke. I realize im getting older, and the 90s is farther away than it feels, but its absurd that this stadium only lasted 25 years. You taxpayers in Georgia are getting screwed if any of the rebuild was on you. If these billionaire owners want a new stadium, LET THEM PAY FOR IT.
