I feel the same. I was feelin her before "God is every Black man..." I love my black brotha and wouldn't take another for anything but NO man comes before my GOD... and to see my man as God will only set our relationship up for failure.
THAT'S WHAT'S UP! Feel like I felt when I 1st heard this! I LOVE IT! I LOVE BLACK MEN TOO! They really do walk like they hear a beat and I must admit that shit is very sexy!
you speak true queen but she did this because black men which are Latinos arabs natives are the most put down , and lost touch with themselfs and fail to realize how much greatness is in them ,, how beautiful they are she was showing love and doing something to lift them up to where they need to be,, i dont think she was trying to put any other race down
She said in her poem "I am not here to hate-but to celebrate" which means she is not knocking other races but simply saying how much she especially loves black men. And with her being a black woman I dont find anything wrong with that.
true that thats amazing poetry on her point of view and her ability to stir up emotional reactions to her thoughts. and everyone discriminates in one way or another against a different group of people, so lets not pick on her "faults" but also realize our own inadequacies and hatreds first.
NiceAndFine you ain't lyin' about that because she came to my city once and since I met her she was so sweet and warm-hearted plus I agree with her about those chocolate and caramel kings who are a girl's weakness fasho.
Wow...I didn't think i was gonna like this poem lol...I thought it was gonna be corny...but it turned out really good As a (half) black individual, she was telling me some things I really needed to hear...
I am a Black Man, and I was feelin this poem untill she said Black men are Gods. I agree I am made in the image of God but I will always fail to be equal to The one and only God.
I don't think the poem was racist. It's nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage. I'm proud to be a black woman. It's poetry, if that's the way she feels, than that's the way she feels, you can't censor it, or judge it for that matter.
For all the not black people who see this and feel left out, you're just not there yet. One day mabey, just not yet. For all the black fools who heard this and got a big head, you missed the message. I'm white, but I felt that one in the soul.
"if you knew better you would do better" i completely agree.. but if you are too lazy to WANT better you will be too lazy to BE better.. THAT is a psychological effect that is plaguing black people today
All this is true we are all equal in Gods eyes but, from a historical approach some people believe that Black men and women are god and goddesses and I am not knocking anybody......but Black Men in my eyes are made in the image of God as we all are it's just that too me they wear it better than any other race....
a word is wat people want it to be, if the change in spelling constitutes for a different meaning then so be it, its like read, depending on wat ur talking about it can past or present tense
Umm I do believe that I said by DEFINITION black people are not racists. I did not say that they do not have prejudices like anyone else. Remember I am only basing this on the true definition of racism. And umm as a light skinned black woman I am very aware of the division in the African American community due to color differentiation. Many black people stereotype me for being light. All I'm saying is that we should use the word racism correctly based on definition.
I have yet to understand why people misuse the word "racism". Black people can not be racist because if you look at the definition of the word, which you all have not. Racism is discrimination based on race WITH THE POWER TO OPPRESS. Therefore black people are not racists.
ppl!! she just expressin her love for the kinda man she wants to marry, so what if she said cracker, she loves a black man, not white. but she wasnt even tryna be racist! everyone has their perfect partner created in their mind, and this is hers, she couldnt of explained it any better. it made sense to her, not everything is about race. if she wants to talk bout how much she loves a black man, then she can, and if it means mentionin lines about another race, then so what? get over it!
Only thing sweeter than a black man is, shit I don't know but if you find out let me know...lol Black men exemplify what is fine and I'm blessed cause one calls me wife...
Ajolique, what dictionary are you using? Mine says, "a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race." So, it seems that you are incorrect.
For real. Why do we as black women put these dudes up for them to keep disappointing granted there are some good and great black men out there but they are few and far between. I, ONCE, want to hear a song or 15 about black women that is positive and has nothing to do with our asses or the way we shake them....but that's just me.
@LambdaLady07 I think she is rather making reference to the point that God is said to have made man in his image, so in that respect, God is every Black man (and asian man, and white man, and all kinds of man), but just in this case she was referring to the black man.
....lol....all I'm ganna say is that she knows her audience...it's lack of a rigorously thought-out statement like most poets on this show is a statement in itself...not saying that the audience are dolphins, but the fish she's throwing out is making someone happy
@LambdaLady07 U misunderstood her.D Bible says that we were created on His image, therefore there`s a God in all of us.U have 2 love ur man and obey him as 2 d Lord (Ephesian5:22). 2 see ur man as a GOD it shouldnt make u sin, just strengthens your relationship (it doesn’t mean that u have 2 worship him,GOD first always and no idols).D same way,ur man needs 2 love u unconditionally like Christ loved his church and b able 2 die for u, as a Queen that u are in order 2 keep this perfect balance ;-*
Naa: she didnt say anything about love between a man and a woman. she was expressing her love for black men. she was not putting them on a pedestal.. and definitely not above God. yes, we know love transcends color etc but she didnt mention interracial relationships so where is your argument coming from? and whats with the G-d?
Wow where in my comment did I say that this poem is not about all Black people. I am an African American Studies major so I know very well what I amtalking about. You should research the PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS of slavery because it is the reason why the African American community is in this state now. YOU can't understand the African American community without knowing and acknowledging history. Thank you.
the psychological effects of slavery? maybe for the people who were SLAVES!!! i acknowledge that history was what is was but the reason that the black community is in the state that it is in now has NOTHING to do with slavery and its psychological effects.. but of laziness and the IMPACT of the people who are too content in what they are to want to even get up to be something better.
I agree that its not completely right but at the same time in the context of the poem its referring to those who make society how it is for a black man... I think :) Haha
*sigh* It's sad to see that in this day and age people still haven't realized that beauty is all based on perception. This is your opinion, and you are free to share it, but I just hope you regard it as such.
the poem was alright but i aree wit b28e. it is kinda racist and it shows that she isn't as cultured as other people who have experienced more but you cant hate on what she saw when she was growin up
Knucles2388 I disagree, how can that word, last letter changed or not, ever be positive? I think it's naive to suggest that in my opinion, I stress this is my own, is that addressing each other as nigga is a part of slave mentality, look at the roots of the word, how many people were killed that word being their crime, we cannot turn that into a positive. It has too much history for it to be okay. Im not having a dig at you just saying this is what I think.
