This brought back bad memories for me I'm an engineer here in Australia and we unfortunately impacted a sedan carrying a family of Four they thought they could out run us across the crossing. That ended my career of 34 years 😢😢😢😢💔💔💔💔
A lot of times at double track crossings I see bicyclists, pedestrians, & cars immediately cross over while the gates are still down for the last few seconds after only one train passes not thinking a second train might be coming on the other track from either direction. At crossings that have two or more tracks, one train could be hiding another train.
I'm kinda surprised they never stressed the importance of stopping further away from the gate. When my grandpa was alive he always taught me the importance of stopping further away from the gate because if the train were to derail or something were to fly off you would have a better chance of avoiding injury or death than if your bumper was digging the gate.
