i stoped my fully loaded 73000 lb gravel truck at a blind crossing with no lights at the crossing my truck is facing down hill at the crossing i was a tenth of second ready to release the brakes fortunately i heard the the last whistle not the first two whistles the train was shorter than usual with about 10 freight and two passenger cars at the end of it. also he was going a lot faster than what they usually travel there this is close to where i garage my truck thank the lord that that i heard the whistle absolutely no visibility for more than 100 feet down the tracks very glad to see the new gates and lights there 39 years of trucking almost ruined my good driving record two weeks before i retired . i still stop look and listen in my auto that was so close love those train horns !
If I were a trucker I would not try to beat a train. No way would I do a thing like that. I hope that other people know that it is not smart to try to beat a train.
There was one train wreck in Ft Lauderdale FL 03-17-1993. Amtrak’s silver meteor slams into a gasoline tanker killing the driver and seven other motorists. Fuel erupts 380 ft abo sea level. Engineer suffered 1st and 2nd degree burns. He survived and told his frightening experience. Truck driver did not survive the fiery explosion.

@@LaurenEveCreates and it also happened at Guadalupe Station in Salt Lake on January 27, 2017 a Fedex truck was crossing the tracks headed to the North Salt Lake Intermodal Facility a signal crew was working on the tracks and did not flag the crossing and a Frontrunner train hit the Fedex truck in the third trailer. There were no deaths or injuries. Because the signal maintainer did not flag the crossing UTA and UP terminated him.

where i live we got a lot of trains i see car and trucks beat the train when i was little. i was at the train station one day when a amtrak train was coming. 2 or 3 cars stop at the crossing but then they drove a cross i was like "what are they doing" now their are gates at the crossing
if a crossing has a exempt sign then trucks dont need to stop before crossing, the exempt sign also means that the crossing is not used much or is out of service

Old comment, but yes it does, you can stall the truck out. That was on my father's CDL test when he got his license. He accidentally shifted over a crossing during his driving test and they almost failed him.
