Normally I wouldn't be in favor of musicians going against the composers' wishes, but in this case, I'm really happy that the Catoire Ensemble decided to record the crossed-out passages in the Romance movement - I think those parts of the movement are gorgeous.
Biographical notes on Catoire read as a person perpetually in search of an adequate musical education, but I would never have guessed from his compositions. They have impeccable craftsmanship, without being inhibited. The idea that he was ever "lacking in texture" is especially surprising, as I find fresh and intricate textures to be one of his great strengths; to my taste, he outdoes Tchaikovsky in that respect.
Thank you a lot for the upload❤😊 May I aks where you got the score from? I've been looking on IMSLP and elsewhere, but I wasn't able to find this manuscript score anywhere. Thanks in advance!
