GeoServer installation methods: Windows Installer and Web Archive
GeoServer is an open source software that can be installed on different operating systems, since it's a Java based application. It can run on any kind of operating system for which exists a Java virtual machine.
There are different ways to install geoserver. In this session, two of the most widely used approaches of installing geoserver, including windows installater and web archive are described. At first, the prerequisites for installing geoserver are mentioned, like installing Java and Apache Tomcat. Then the points related to the installation settings and required hardware facilities are described. Also at the end of this session, the differences in geoserver installation methods will explain.

After following all the steps, at the end i a am getting this error. Type Status Report Message The requested resource [/geoserver/] is not available Description The origin server did not find a current representation for the target resource or is not willing to disclose that one exists.

@@sajadhamid2000 To use GeoServer Windows Installer, sometimes you need to manually start the default web server located in the start menu (GeoServer Start icon), otherwise this error will be displayed

@@geospatialtechno i was using web archive instead of windows installer. Now , i used the Windows installer for tomcat in combination with the Geoserver web archive file and it's working. My goal is to generate catalog service using Geoserver and consume the same in different portals. Do you have any idea

@@sajadhamid2000 You did it correct, but remember that to enter the "localhost:port/geoserver" in the URL, "geoserver" must be spelled exactly as you copy it into the webapps root in the apache software foundation folder. To generate the catalog service and use it in different portals, it is recommended to use geonetwork software. I installed GeoServer, then it was not working on localhost8080. Then I uninstalled it and reinstalled. But now GeoServer is not running as administrator and this messages keeps coming on my laptop: GeoServer has already been installed in your system. Please remove that version if you wish to update or re-install. I don't understand it. I have uninstalled it and have removed all the residual files and so. I am unable to proceed the re-installation process. What should I do?

It seems like there may still be some residual files or configurations left behind from the previous installation of GeoServer on your system. To completely remove GeoServer and all associated files, you can try the following steps: 1. Go to the Control Panel on your computer and uninstall GeoServer from the list of installed programs. 2. Manually delete any remaining GeoServer folders or files in the installation directory (e.g. C:\Program Files\GeoServer). 3. Delete any remaining GeoServer configuration files in the user directory (e.g. C:\Users\YourUsername\.geoserver). 4. Restart your computer to ensure all changes are properly applied. Once you have completely removed all traces of the previous GeoServer installation, you should be able to proceed with a fresh installation without encountering the error message. Make sure to run the installation as an administrator to avoid any further issues.

@@Farazeenkhizer. You may opt to install GeoServer on a different port. It is recommended to install GeoServer through Apache Tomcat. Refer to the steps outlined in the video.
