The third episode explores geospatial technology in the world of security: how new technologies help to broker peace, wage war, and fight crime but can also compromise personal privacy.
Answers I guess (idk if this applies to everyone) Provide examples for the ways that geospatial technologies help(ed) broker peace, war, and fight crime. 3:50 5:00 8:05 Discuss in ways in which technology can invade personal privacy 11:30
The technologies are really useful for mankind and its our collective responsibility to ensure its proper utilization and prevent any form of miss-use rather than just pointing fingers at institutions. Remember if we are not protesting against anything that we perceive as wrong or immoral, than we are supporting it.
Regarding the Balkans, its pretty clear that there was blood on all of their hands. Bottom line: the Dayton Accords ended the slaughter - at least in Bosnia - and geospatial technology played a part. The next episode will be about how this technology helps monitor climate change, prevent famine, track disease and empower poor communities in the developing world to advocate for change.
yeah, I dont bealive also that Milosevic is a good example . However I like the series of GR. Still waiting that technology like GPS, LiDAR etc. will get cheaper. Pitty, that GR is focusing only on big institutions which can afford on research with LIDAR, SRTM, Landsat and so on. They could propose something for underfunded firms or institutions that are obliged to scan old topographic maps and can not afford the technology presented in the material.
This is a great video. How is this collaborating with the Gov? This video demonstrates why somebody may want to major in Geography and, oh I don't know.....get a JOB!
Of all the examples, why would you use a convicted war criminal? Slobodan Milošević???? And this is not even hind sight 20/20....the guy was convicted before the video was released. I don't feel fuzzy knowing I aided someone in war crimes.
Does the university have no ethics? How could they collaborate so uncritically with the gov? This is more like a commercial than an 'objective' documentary. Using Milošević as promotion material is btw not something to be proud of....
