Can’t blame you. No one would have saw this coming. Sure, Geelong can never be written off as they are proven list management pros, but to win the flag in such dominant fashion is worth commending.
I felt the same way at about round 6, after we lost to Hawthorn. I remember commenting at the time that our time as a top four team was over. I'm glad to say I got that wrong.
Nathan, out of pure curiosity. Why do you hate Geelong? I think they are generally considered one of the best cultures in the game, a long standing club, fans that aren’t particularly rude or abusive (I don’t think). I’m just curious, maybe it was a throw away line from you. Maybe not.
12 months is a long time. I remember when Geelong lost to Melbourne in last year's preliminary final in Perth, Chris Scott was being shown the door by the media and people were calling for a massive overhaul of their list.
The irony is, Melbourne have reverted back to Geelong predictable down the line one on one footy, while Geelong took what Melbourne were successful in in 2021 and ran with it. Now it’s Godwin’s turn to change things up which were non existent all season!
No stuffing about this time, that boring old handball, handball, handball down back and barely getting ten metres closer to goal, that sort of thing was thrown out to be replaced by more risk, more attack, more dare, they perfected it and hardly put a foot wrong on Grand Final day. Can hardly wait for the DVD and watch all those fantastic plays.
@@terrythekittieful teams couldn’t set up behind the ball. If it was a short kick it was a incision that hurt you through the middle of ground or an attacking move. Just as dominant contested as the best teams and a even balance of pace experience
Danger had an inspiring game. I know they love danger, however, you can't deny his potency and will to win. Danger cops a lot of undue hate due to his personality - you can't play the way he has over the years without some hate.
People don’t hate Scott Pendlebury, people don’t hate Dustin Martin, people don’t hate Josh P Kennedy, people don’t hate Luke Shuey, people don’t hate Ollie Wines, People don’t hate Petracca, people don’t hate Lachie Neale.. All these players are superstars who play a similar brand of footy to Dangerfield throughout their careers. Dangerfield is just plain unlikeable. The guy is a fl0g of the highest order.
I agree with Kingy - why didn’t Geelong play like this earlier?! A lot of it is due to personnel, sure. But Geelong of the last 5 years were always a much scarier team when they were behind and had nothing to lose.
it's all a little overblown man. we have consistently rinsed teams for 5 years. a lucky bounce a few shitty umpiring decisions and we have 2-3 flags in the cabinet. that's not ripping on any other team either, it's hard to win flags and you need everything going right. we went into multiple finals series previously with our best players (Stewie, Hawkins) not playing or injured (Joel, Danger, Jezza). We also didn't have Jezza who is a top 5-10 in the comp player, and some of our younger players needed to get bigger, stronger and more experienced (Guthrie, Miers, etc). flags are hard to win. (I'd also argue that this year's competition was weaker. Richmond were a good team with one of the best finals players that has ever lived. Collingwood, lol. Sydney, lol. both these teams wpuod struggle to have more than 1-2 players that would make the Cats team if you played everyone in position).
This is the really frustrating element for close followers of the Cats - shouldn’t have taken so long. Anyway, I’m satisfied at least that this talented list is now a Premiership one.
@@harryhookings650 Thanks Harry, FOOTY, got it. Since, I'm a Californian who lives n France & am already spelling badly in several languages why not Aussie. i appreciate correction...jt
@@lloydtownsend4316 Thanks man, My French plombier, (plumber), Is my friend Michael O'Leary who is from Geelong. He's as much of a Geelong fan, as I am a 49er fan, so I have a local coach. It amazed me how similar the business side is shared between the two sports... that & this idea the the field is different in different stadiums which changes the geometry of everything. What inspired me was the brilliant way they played togeather as a team - even knowing almost nothing of the rules that jumped off the screen right away. Loved it.
Except Sydney… back in Round 2 of course 😂, well played Geelong, Kingy’s first sentence summed it up. Neutral supporters witnessed great players who paid all their dues, like Selwood and Smith, get their lasting glory.
Disgraceful how Whately pushes for Night grand final - he is biased working for football media. If they move to a Night grand final AFL will not be as good and the day will no longer be special. The media push this and most fans don't want this. I mean the main reason mentioning it'll be better at night is for the musical performancs, I mean are you serious? I reckon as many people were watching the game. They just weren't each stuck at their own home
I reckon horse packed the white flag in his travel bag, and his gameplan was all wrong. Seeing papley start in the centre square was an early sign, an attempt to provide some spark in there. Hickey got schooled and Reid was underdone, from there it was all down hill.
Papley has started in the centre square for almost every one of the 9 games in a row that Sydney won. There was nothing new in him starting there. JLs game plan was fine, Geelong we’re just far and away the strongest team of the year and they played a near perfect game.
Really weird I had close as a real game breaker was watching it at the g too. It’s funny he says men vs boys. I said to my partner the cats lads look more physically built. More mature.
People on this page are saying david king should be coaching,,but you dingbats will be that 1st to knock him when he starts losing games,,sitting on a comfy chair talking about it sounds really good doesnt it,,but in the real world coaching is bloody ruthless and bloody hard,,,when a coach is winning nobody says anything but when a coach is losing everybody puts him down real quick,,an unexperienced coach ,,,i have my doubts,,,sorry but thats the cold hard truth,,as an analyst fantastic,,game overrrr
@@cmadelaide56 Yeah, I watched a couple of games and I tired of the ump calling for a ball up after ball up after ball up.They were not so bad on the bigger grounds where they couldn't lock the game down.Even Essendon were able to beat them on the MCG but on the smaller SCG, no, I refused to watch after about mid season. To me, Sydney are a bad advertisment for the game.
@@petermcculloch4933 and its as if the sydney fans dont know the rules the way they yell at the umpires i understand that 90% of fans are like that but from personal experiences sydney fans are some of the worst
As a neutral fan and was a dreadful game to watch (again) turned off 10 mins into third. To many grand finals are one-sided! Congrats to the cats, well deserved flag.
never seems to b any descent open play on the SCG because its like a soccer ground(too short & narrow)Sydney play it well, but struggle on a proper AFL ground's like the MCG.
@@pauldixon1766 point is we should have big playing surfaces for all 36 players to display their skills, not a soccer ground where u get gang tackled by 4 or 5 players every time the ball spills free. AFL at the SCG is like watching rugby. Accor stadium would b a better long term option for the AFL as its similar to the MCG.
"For a mutual fan that's as good as it gets". Completely disagree Kingy, as a mutual fan that was dreadful, I stopped watching at half time. The highlight of the day was Robbie Williams. Not to say Geelong didn't play entertaining footy, but it wasn't a contest.
@@vivekpadmanabhan3260 didn't say I expected them, halfwit, just commenting that collingwood wouldn't have lost by 80 points. Pretty hard to argue that.
Pies would have got pumped. There’s no “more deserving” or “put up a better fight” they didn’t play because they lost. Pies supporters need to accept that. You only just beat teams in the bottom 10.
@@jimhaze87 Mate, totally agree with you. I had the misfortune to sit through 5 losing Geelong GFs since 1967 prior to the 2007 win. 2007 was redemption for the club and for the supporters. The way the club carried itself this season has been uplifting. Grüße aus Australien.
These two are real Danger fanboys. Great player, but they are prone to give him credit more easily than other players. Shame the GF was so one-sided. I suspect even some Cats supporters would have liked more of a contest to make it a more memorable occasions.
A master class in the ‘Art Of War’….Putting pressure to bare…..Imposing doubt where it never existed…..Scott will lecture at Harvard like Sir Alex Ferguson…..
A spectacular watch for neutral fan? A spectacularly boring game more like it. People want a contest to watch to build excitement, not a one sided bloodbath.
What logic is King using to say as a neutral viewer that GF was great to watch. It was a slaughterhouse that was over early and boring af! It likely would've been better for neutral fans if the Pies had made it. Sydney were atrocious.
Concur Pig!!!!At the end the fairytale team (Pies) needed to have contested the Granny, not for one second am I suggesting Collingwood would have won but wouldn't have lost by 81 points!!!
