1999 will always be a year that I look back with great fondness. Like many who experienced the euphoria before the dawn of a new century, it was a year that I fell madly and deeply in love, it was a year of joy and wonder ! Nothing can quite capture the uplifting mood then than this song.
yes that its true. new millenuim was coming and everybody was happy, people who was born after 2000 dont understand that. they cant even imagine how childhood was without internet, cellphones, etc. I was 11 :)
HERE HERE! 1999 was a spectacular year for popular culture and humanity, reflecting back I always get emotional considering how brilliant movies and music were along with the state of world being mostly peaceful, I was only 6 years old in 1999 and the new millennium wasn't just the only massive once in a lifetime event that year, also total eclipse and Man United winning the Treble. A year of joy and wonder indeed, when life was still easy and carefree until 9/11 wrecked all hope for the 21st century 😢 we live in such shit times now, I'm 25 years old and still feel trapped in the late 90s & early 00s, going through classic pop tunes every day. 1999 was arguably the best year in film too (The Matrix, The Sixth Sense, Office Space, American Pie, 10 Things I Hate About You, Toy Story 2, The Straight Story etc)
This song is so beautiful and great to sing along too. The very end of the video is quite emotional as the aliens leave to head back to space and Geri looks up as the flying saucer takes off.

If Geri had a better voice that will be unfair to mankind...I mean, she is intelligent, beautiful, made great pop music...nicest things are always humble and her voice does transmit what she meant...nice beautiful pop music..she is already talented enough
The thing with Geri's music is that it is so pure and honest, like it or hate it. I remember when she made a comment in an interview that she would like her music to be bigger, but no need. I think we who were into our music back then recognized it.

OK she might not be everybody's cup of tea, but she has a lower pitched voice. Atleast it's something abit different. I think she sounds brilliant in this. Soo what if she's not as strong as the other girls? She suits this song right down to the ground as far as I'm concerned. She had the guts to start her own solo stuff . I remember I loved this song back in the day. There used to be a music TV programme in my country in 1999 that run from 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM before the news. I remember I would wake up earlier just to have the chance to catch this music video on TV before getting up for school.
