Today I'm making a German Chocolate Pound Cake with a yummy Chocolate Glaze and Toasted Coconut & Pecans Frosting!

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS AND DETAILS PROVIDED IN THE VIDEO.

INGREDIENTS I USED:
Baked at 325 degrees for 1 hour 15 mins. (Time may vary depending on your cake pan and/or oven.)
3 Cups Cake Flour
3 Cups Sugar
3 Sticks UNsalted Butter (Room Temperature)
5 Large Eggs (Room Temperature)
3/4 C Unsweetened Hershey's Cocoa Powder
1 C Buttermilk
1/2 Tsp Baking Powder
1/4 Tsp Salt
1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract
CHOCOLATE GLAZE
Baker's German's Sweet Chocolate
Water (Start With About 1/4 C)
Butter
Powdered Sugar
Vanilla Extract
TOASTED COCONUT & PECAN FROSTING
1 Can Evaporated Milk
1 Cup Dark Brown Sugar
1 Stick Butter
3 Large Egg Yolks
1/8 Tsp Salt
1 Tablespoon Vanilla
1.5-2 Cups Toasted Sweetened Coconut Flakes
1 Cup Toasted Pecans

Good morning! Your cake looks good! I was born and raised in Texas, where the German Chocolate Cake was created. It was my sister's most requested cake in her catering service. In the original cake recipe, the melted chocolate goes into the batter, along with the whipped egg whites which are folded in before pouring into the cake pans. It wasn't used to "ice" the cake.

Such a delicious looking cake. I try really hard but the texture of my cakes never looks as good as yours. I am 77 yes old and you would think I could do better. I do enjoy watching you and maybe some day I will get it right. By the way, I always wash the cans I use as well. As you say to not do so is just plain nasty. I wash my hands too and keep them washed.. Thank you for sharing.

Hi there, I make this cake 3 to 4 times a year, every year and .... yes the chocolate is supposed to be bitter, and yes you did it right, the coconut pecan filling is gonna be super sweet, thus balancing out the taste afterwards. Go back and check the directions for the filling again....you will be surprised. This has been a hit for the holidays for 25+ yrs. For us. You are inspiring others to get back to southern tradition. And I love it....so thank you.

The chocolate is melted and added to the cake, which gives the flesh of the cake that chocolate look. As for the icing, it's made with milk, eggs and sugar, coconut and your choice of nut, but you made it do what it do. I like your version of the recipe. I really enjoy watching your videos and seeing Dude #1 come to taste the cake. You two are too cute!!!

Yes, when I make German chocolate layer cake the German chocolate bar is melted with hot water and added to the batter. German chocolate bars are unsweetened....lol. bitter!!

German Chocolate cake is one of my favorites. My mom baked it yearly for my dad until I started baking around 13 y/o. It is still my dad's favorite. My mom enjoyed it, too. She is no longer with us. The rest of family doesn't care for it much. I may try this pound cake version. Thanks for sharing.

My family loves German Chocolate Cake, my god daughter asked me to make one for her baby shower 21 yrs ago. My grand daughter turned 21 yrs old the 22nd of Dec. 2022. Oh dear we're tricky to make a 3 layer German Chocolate cake look good. I used sterling silver rattle photo frame with her as a baby etc. She loved it! Now I better make her this!!

This look delicious! Mama made us kids homemade German Chocolate Cake for our birthdays every year, the last she baked for me before she passed, was number 48. I learned the hard way about the bitterness of German Chocolate years ago haha Nasty but oh so yummy at the end of the day! 💜

Use hot water in a pot as a double boiler. Lol 😆, you can also melt them in the microwave for 30 seconds intervals. That's why it wasn't sweet, you watered-down the chocolate. I love your video, you always make some delicious cakes. I really hope I haven't offended you in any way. It's all in love. 🥰
