The MG3 is a MG42 in 7.62NATO and with a slightly reduced rpm to decrease barrel wear

The BO-105 was the "backbone" of the anti tank helicopter for the Bundeswehr for a long time. And to be fair the Germans never had a big thing for the helicopter CAS doctrine which the US was leaning towards. That can be because the german doctrine always was more tank and grenadier focused or because they didn't really see the benefit of having a "slow" gunship in the air as their experiance with war is quite limited to a time where helicopters were not realy a thing. They only started in the late 90s to switch their doctrine towards air helicopter based air support and then started to develop the tiger in conjunction with the french who had a similar "problem". Having said that. The BO-105 was and still is a formidable helicopter. Outdated, yes but still very agile and usable. As for the MG3 yes it is a transformation of the MG42 to chamber the Nato 7.62 but also the recoil and bolt system has been "updated" to fire at a lower rate. 1) To fit international law 2) It's seen that having such a high rate of fire is a waste of ammunition, although intimidating it's high rate only cause that more rounds hit a single anemy which is seen as unnecessary, not only because of the problems one could argue international law might raise but also wounding is deemed more effective than killing - as more enemy troops are bound.

The Alouette was used extensively in the Portuguese Colonial Wars, many of our grandparents' lives were saved by the Alouette. It's even still in use today with 50 cals mounted to the sides.

actually except for maybe the tiger line of helicopters this is pretty much what the german helicopters looked like. look up "Panzerabwehr aus der Luft" for info on how the Bo 105 operated. You will enjoy it.

Tothe MG3 (not sure how to spell it in english) the ammunition closure(breach?) is also redone. the MG42 shot like 1400-1600rpm. the MG3 "only" shots 1200rpm. But that's all differences. I mean I shot, in my service time, with an MG3 that had parts from the original MG42. Funny thing was, the swastika was scratched away :D

I love how even at 0% Collective it still gave you *Reduce Col* warnings. It really needs to be reworked

I noticed the BO-105 has the camera mounted on top of the fuselage. You should try hovering behind cover (distant building, trees, hillside) and see if you can get some atgm kills that way. I know the idea behind kiowa warrior (OH-58D) was to hide behind trees to mark targets in the same way. I wonder if war thunder will go further with the eurocopter line for the germans.

Phly, the Germans used the Mi-24P and the Mi-24V more than the Huey. As a matter of fact the Huey never sported weapons. So the Mi is more realistic than the Huey and has more of a place in the German tech tree

For the mg3 the recoil spring was shortened a bit and one part inside the bolt was changed from solid to spring loaded (no, not the firing pin) which combined lowered the fire rate to about 1200rpm, except for that one the caliber changed, as you mentioned and yes, we still use it to this day, lovingly called the Eva (short for "endsgeiler Vernichtungs-Apparat")

Basically the MG3 is a modernized version of the MG42, only small improvments were made like muzzle break/recoil amplifier is different and the RPM was slightly throttled to "only" 1200 RPM

A vortex ring is basically where a tube like ring forms around the edges of your main rotor and it cycles downwards. Furthermore, it is powered by your rotors, so the more COL you have, the faster it pushes you down. You have to lower your COL and manuever out of it to not crash, at least in real life, but we all know WT heli flight and damage models are garbage.

Fun fact: The Mi-24 in service with the GDR was so good that the Bundeswehr continued to use them for some time, just like the MiG-29.

I'm not sure we need care about the low RPM warnings... :/ One Gaijin learn to full-ass something, rather than half-ass 2 things and neglect other stuff, like game economy (RB hasn't had its economy looked at in years, and Gaijin seem to think it will never need to be changed). Gaijin also have no clue how to balance aircraft Br. They have always looked at the statistics of players, seen how terrible and bad players have tried dog fighting zero's and bumped the Br of an aircraft made in 1939, have to fight aircraft DESIGNED in 1942?! Gaijin simply want to pump out nice shiny new things. While they either don't fund the departments responsible for editing/fixing other aspects of the game. Or they don't care. The game has been out nearly a decade, and still has other major issues, but Gaijin's priority is still new vehicals....

the MG3 is just an MG1/2 (a MG2 being a MG42 rechambered for Nato standard rounds, the MG1 being newly built MG42 with nato standard round ammo) modified to have two RPM settings, one standard 1300 RPM (roughly the same as an MG42 with its 1200 RPM) and a lower rate of fire (950RPM), although it can also be modified to have the settings changed. thus the MG3 is basically a MG42 with nato standard rounds and the ability to use a lower ROF to conserve ammo (but still keep the high RPM to help suppression in certain situations

Elements of the MG-42 have been copied and implemented in other nation’s LMG designs as well. The M60 as I recall is one such weapon. Interesting fact: the “smart rifles” Vasquez and Drake used in Aliens were MG-42s mounted on steady cam rigs.

The BO 105 is Germany’s standard CAS helicopter. During the Cold War, they focused more on tanks and infantry support than helicopters. There is a version armed with Stinger Cs but obviously they can’t have that in warthunder (I know about it from wargame red dragon)

Vortex Ring is when the air moved by the rotors fail to cause lift, therefore causing failure of altitude gain, at least that's what I think.

Hey PhlyDaily , look at the "Bundeswehr" channel. Or directly on the video "Classix - Panzerabwehr aus der Luft (1992)" from the Bundeswehr. There you can see the BO-105 in action. Really cool, with it low fly capability next to tree's and surprise the enemy with it rockets wich fly over the tree line.😁👍🇩🇪 The helicopter was only for anti tank fights. Like the name says PAH (Panzerabwehr Helikopter = anti tank helicopter).

3:00 the different between the mg42 and the mg3 is Not only the caliber, the mg 42 Shoot 1500 Rounds per Minute but the mg3 1200 Rounds per minute

I'd like to clarify - MG3s shoot about 12-24 rounds per second (depending on the gun and how its been held), so shooting a 1000 rounds would take like 35-42 seconds. Source = Estonian Millitary, we still got MG3s

The SNEB 37s are for air-to-air. The 68mm and 100mm SNEBs are for air-to-ground.

This helicopter is one of the famous french helicopter for aircraft carrier operation (in case of plane crash on water) still in service

Phly quick tip for quick turns when phlying the heli's, if you want to turn around quick, or face the ground quickly, pull up, reduce col to about 50-65% and kick the tail one way or another, you'll turn on a dime without putting your heli in a votex ring!

Phly, FYI the MG3 is not only recalibered but they also reduce the rate of fire from 1500 to 1200 and by using a the recalibration also means an increase in muzzle velocity but mainly was done to reduce the wear and tear. Oh and BTW its STILL in service.

I wonder though if we were to get older copters though if there's still a chance of getting the Fa 223, a early 40s copter (1st flight August 1940 with introduction in 1941) that can carry 2x 250 kg(550 lb) bombs or depth charges along with a MG 15 manually aimed from the nose. as for BR, maybe 2.0 to 3.0?

The GAF does not have any dedicated attack helicopters (or rather gunships?) like...well everyone else. Even the Tiger, that the french do use with a cannon much like the US the Apache, doesn't have a cannon in German service. Why? Because the recoil was too extreme according to trials, so they opted to use it without the cannon. The helicopters in German service are much more of a support role, and hence not called "Attack Helicopters" but instead PAH (Panzerabwehr Hubschrauber, Anti-Tank Helicopters) and mainly fulfill reconnaissance and anti tank roles. Especially the Bo-105: I mean look at the UH6 Little Bird which is the US counterpart, you don't see those fitted with TOW's and 20mm Cannons a whole lot do you? Because the Apaches and Cobras can do that so much better. And fun fact: There are actually Bo-105s that have an Rh202 slapped underneath. Yes that thing that sits ontop of the Leopard 2K and KPz-70. But it's used by Spain. Also Fun Fact: the UH-1 is known as "carpet beater" in Germany and Austria, due to the sound the 2-blade rotor makes.
