The word Mawla literally means master. The word can both apply to God, as in God the Master, or in sufiism it can also be applied to your spiritual master or guide, a sufi saint or teacher who leads you to God. The lyrics here were very traditional sufi qawwali lyrics. The beauty of sufi poetry is in the words and they can have double or more meanings. The love expressed in the lyrics is about becoming the mad lover (lover - aashiq, mad- dewaana) of the divine, ie God, a mad lover can also mean the perfect lover who is consumed by his/her beloved ( the poet who wrote this is saying in order to love God perfectly you have to turn to him fully, be willing to become the mad lover who gives up everything including life for their lover), but because of the romantic phrasing of the poetry this can just as well be speaking of the mundane, ie. romantic love between people if you don't know the context. So when the words of a qawali are already romantic it is no wonder it can be performed in more modern ways. No one but the most reactionary people get offended, but those people are already offended by traditional qawwali as is because it uses romantic phrasing 😂.
