Thanks for the nice video. Just a quick question. At 5:48, it looks like you're pulling on the VG cord. As an amateur, I usually slacken my VG cord when I'm in a thermal. As a competition pilot, would you like to share the secret of the VG cord with us? ;-)
Ha! I'm no expert, but here are my thoughts... In a really strong thermal a lot of pilots fly with VG full off and get as tight as they can. The VG increases your glide performance but you end up flying a wider circle. So in weaker, wider thermals (and as I get near cloud-base often) I tend to pull on the VG to maximise the glide performance. The amount... depends on the thermal. I do it by what feels right.
How dare she!! I didn't see her most of the flight but we must have been fairly close. Steve Doherty was better - he was near us too... ran into a 10 up on his final glide to the deck and made it into goal!
