The dog literally jumped on top of the child to keep the child safe. He stopped and spun on a dime when his owners called him off. What an awesome dog. He loves his kid.
Tbf, it seems the dog that attacked might have thought the good dogs were already chasing the kid and thought it was okay to join. Of course that says a lot about the dog
@@dumpsterpsycho2894i absolutely agree. the black dog’s hunting instincts kicked in, making it chase the little boy. i 100% don’t believe that the black dog is evil or bad, it simply misunderstood the situation. the sad thing is, it’s probably been put down, and that is so incredibly sad and unfair

That was just an epic move, wasn't it?! I don't know what triggered that other dog to charge at the boy like that, but thank goodness the German Shepherd was there.
Why do people think the dog was going for the kid or they were fighting? They’re obviously neighbors I’m sure they know each other. That dog was trying to play.
@@BobungaShamunga That dog was not coming to play, its tail was straight back, it was in attack mode, not play mode. Also, this video has been posted elsewhere with somments about the situation, how the dogs across the street are out of control and dangerous.
@@TLoumena I stand corrected if there’s background info I didn’t know about. It’s hard to tell from that far away video, I see dogs run up to play like that all the time. Hard to believe that dog would go for the kid knowing the shepherd was right there, but I guess he learned a lesson. Looks like they’re in a rural area but def shouldn’t be letting those dogs run loose.
Always on alert even when it's fun & games. Some breeds are like that. Now a Boxer will do the same but it needs more time to process, a German Shepherd has a heightened situational awareness, much like Dobermanns and Rhodesian Ridgebacks.
The loyalty of a dog is amazing. Many years ago we were walking our Shelty on the street a few houses from ours. A large Shepard across the street started angrily barking from its driveway. Our Shelty ran back to our driveway in fear and watched from there. When the Shepard started walking down its driveway toward us our Shelty immediately went into protect mode and ran back, in spite of her initial obvious fear, got between us and the Shepard and stood it down. They barked at each other a few seconds until the Shepard relented and shyly walked back to its home. Our Shelty stayed with now until we got home. What a good girl.
The Shepherd was probably just flexing its territory and not looking to attack your dog, or any of your group. Of course there are always exceptions and your Shelty wasn't going to take any chances. So while this was (ultimately) probably a non-threatening situation, your Shelty was there for you whatever come what may!
Amazing how that Shepherds protective instincts kicked in when he saw the danger coming..He even stands guard and looking back at the threat and back at his family making sure they're ok. What a great guard doggie..
I had a German shepherd in my childhood and it was like a second mother to me and my brothers. It protected us from strangers and danger as we walk on the streets of Mexico.
Not only did he put himself over the boy to protect him. Spun off like a Tasmanian devil to chase him down then still went back to check on the boy running to his mom and still put himself in the middle of both of them. They are truly amazing animals. My family has owned them since I was three. I use to roll on them and jump on them and they carry me around. I will forever be a German shepherd fan and owner.
If you watch this in slo mo you will see that what that Shepard did is mental. He actually pushed the kid down so that the incoming dog will miss it's target, stepped aside as to not collide with the dog, and once the dog missed and went further because of it's momentum, was ready to engage. This was tactical brilliance.
I just watched in slowmo. I'm sorry to sound like a wimp but seeing it in slowmo made me choke up a little bit. That dog was a true hero. Thanks for the suggestion.
Jfc you can see it without slo mo. If you really need to slow it down to see it, there's a problem. But then you also felt the need to break down why the dog did this so you're clearly used to dealing with the brain dead and other stupids.
The heart of a dog is so pure. If you love someone, you will love them until death. Most importantly, you can be both a playmate and a superhero at the same time.
He did more than just save the kid. He saved the owner of the other dog a lot of trouble. Pretty sure the guy realized it too. And at least the guy had the decency to ask if the kid was okay. He’ll need to be careful with that dog.
While I do give credit to the owner for being right behind the dog i do hope he brought the dog back into his house and than immediately went to his neighbors house to properly apologize. I also noticed how the owner of the German Shepard was calm even though her kid was in danger and that guy was yelling at his dog even after the dog was already chased away from the boy (=he's yelling not to prevent the attack but to show the dog his displeasure) so I think the owner might be partially responsible for his dogs agression. I cant judge though, I don't know them. And for sure that german shepherd probably also saved the other dogs life, depending on where this was. In my country if a dog bites once I'm pretty sure you have to go back to training and if it's still agressive they sadly are killed, I think.
I don’t feel a lot of compassion for the neighbor. They knew their dog was aggressive towards strangers, but still thought it was a good idea to keep it. And It baffles me that people don’t pay for dog training and choose to gamble their dogs life and the lives of others. This guy is lucky the dog didn’t bite the kid, otherwise he could’ve gone to court for it.

The way the dog protected the kid is seriously unbelievable IQ level 200 -1st: he knocks the kid on the ground away from the attacking dog's trajectory, and puts himself between the kid & the dog -then: he starts attacking the attacker and chases him away -then: when he has chased away the attacking dog to a safe distance (even before the attacking dog's owner reaches his dog), he looks back & heads towards the kid to make sure the kid is safe, once he sees the mother is here he just chills knowing all is well Absolutely remarkable

That kid is part of the pack and both dogs jumped in no hesitation. We as humans sometimes don’t deserve these animals. Amazing display of what treating the dog well and returning the same loyalty as they show you.
My Grandparents ALWAYS had German Shepherds when I was a child. I have memories of visiting them and they always loved all over me and my siblings. They'd sit with us and almost assumed a kind of "guarding" role. They love kids and are so intelligent and loyal.

The most impressive thing to me is his quick thinking. Pushes kid out of the other dog’s path, back on the offensive immediately, chases the dog to gain distance between the two, quickly scans the area for more threats all in just a few seconds
that dog switches from playing, to ready to die for the kid, to on guard in that short space of time. that is a confident well trained dog. knows exactly what to do and how far to go.
I love how the dog starts off so peaceful and just trotting along playfully with the kid. And then it instantly recognizes a threat and goes into attack mode. Thats such a good doggo. Many many treats and belly rubs after that
@@rip_ckevfan88 "it wanted to play " You have clearly never owned a dog. That dog is in attack mode not play mode and was only stopped by the German Shepherd
This dog did exemplary, textbook-style security. 1. Threat identification. 2. Protecting clients. 3. Attack the threat and drive it away from the client. 4. Make sure that child is protected by her mother. 5. The threat has moved away, but keep an eye on it until the end. Excellent....
I like how no one is blaming the owner.... the owner stepped into action and you can see he asked "is the baby ok?" pure sweetheart, dog just attacked.

@@miachelsanta7763the light coloured dog (German shepherd) is the hero. The small dark dog, is from same household as the German shepherd I would think. And that dog came to help the German shepherd when see the German shepherds reaction to the other dog. The long legs dark dog (first one running in the video) was the assaulter. You can see that the assulter dog came from the house, and as soon as it ran past it’s owner, he ran after it trying to stop it. Now the only thing that I find unclear is; did the assult dog see the German shepherd at attacking the boy and want to save the boy, but came in a way that seemed like an attack in itself or did it see them playing and wanted to join, no fence or lead stopping it, so it ran over to play, but the run was too aggressive, so others reacted as if the dog was attacking or last scenario; the assault dog decided to attack the boy. Now if that is true, they need to check for mental illnesses in the dogs brain (there is a illness in dogs that they get in the brain, that some get where they simply attack for no reason and the only cure, for it is to unfortunately have to put them down) Plus you can not trust a dog that attacks like that as much anymore. My own husky was attacked by an off leash dog, where his tail was bitten. Over 4 years ago, and he still reacts to some other dogs. However we keep our dog on lead 100 % of the time. Since they are animals, you can never 100% control them, at the end of the day, nature is their strongest instinct. The good and bad side of it as shown on this video. Hope that helped

They better had given him a steak dinner that night. LOL hope the little boy is okay and not too traumatized. That was a lot to go through. Even before it happened, you could see how the German Shepherd plays with the little boy. He was frolicking around him and wagging his tail and playing with him. What a great dog.
Looks like it was keeping the child from the street but who knows. That thing across the street needs to be put down immediately. children aren't safe in that community which is unacceptable.
Good dog. As a child, I had a 110 lbs, not fat just BIG Golden Retriever who saved me from a neighbor's aggressive dog. It's crazy how quickly a nice, goofy, ball of joy will switch into GET DOWN MR PRESIDENT mode when their boy/girl are threatened. Every kid needs a dog.
My first cat when I was little was like that, too. He was a playful sweetheart (and trickster) with my family, but also very protective. He would discreetly follow me and my siblings around the neighborhood when we took walks or played with neighbor kids, and on several occasions when human or animal was threatening anyone in the family, he instantly turned into a 9-pound Bengal tiger. Beautiful sweet cat, but tough as nails in a fight against cat or dog.
I used to have three dogs as a kid and it was amazing. Always felt like they were protecting us growing up. Sadly, now we can't afford to have any dogs.
What a good dog! That poor mom must’ve had a heart attack. I also feel bad for the neighbor, he chased his dog and looked so bewildered that happened. I hope they keep their dog leashed and properly train it. So glad no one was hurt.
I have always loved German Shepherds since my uncles saved me from drowning when I was 4. Arrow was a super intelligent dog, followed me down to the dock and pulled me out after I fell in. If he hadn't, no one would have heard my cries for help.
That German Shepherd would have absolutely torn that other dog to pieces. You can just tell from his stance, behavior and confidence that he would absolutely wreck that other dog. And then to immediately abort the counter-attack when called off by the owner, that's a well-trained dog. An absolute unit. And let's not forget the other family dog running to the aid too, straight for the kid to protect him.
As a teenager I got taken by a friend into a not so good neighborhood where a lot of the people fought dogs in a hidden vacant field behind them. They had some pit bulls that would scare the life out of you... But they claimed one of the toughest dogs was a German Shepherd which I saw. It was not scary, but they said it knew how to latch on to the side of the pitbull's face and just dominate it.
Dogs are amazing. Even my little Boston Terrier showed some incredible protective behavior at a park once, when I was dealing with a creepy stranger. I miss him so much. RIP Manny 🐶👼
My doodle, pretty useless at it still tried. A dog knocked me down and she stayed right by my side doing her best to fight off the dog till the owner came running out. Quite surprised me she did. She got lots of praise. It’s just not in her nature
Yeah nah. I nearly had the same happen to me as this video but in reverse. The shepard was the attacking dog. Good thing I was a grown man and not a little kid.
Hero dog knocked his boy down so the attacking dog couldn't grab him quickly by leg or arm while standing. Then attacked the attacker and continued to stay as interceptor while never straying far from the boy. Once the hero dog sees the Mother coming to grab the child it calms down and checks the other dog again and its surroundings. The situational awareness is incredible.
That kind of quick thinking wouldn't even be done by an adult human. Even though we're smarter than dogs, their brains are tuned into protection mode like a switch.
German Shepards don’t f*** around when it comes to protecting their own or one of their own. Awesome for the young girl to have her dog as her protector.
You can tell the difference between a well behaved dog vs one that's uncontrollable, the Shepard wanting to play with his kid owner meanwhile the other dog could care less about the little girl across the street and would prefer to attack the little boy..

I had a golden retriever as a young teen. Nicest, most mild mannered dog ever. Next door got a ,chow, a vicious dog. Mean as can be. He got loose one day and attacked me in my front yard while getting out of my car, my golden , who never once was aggressive, came out of nowhere and tore that chow up. I was dumbfounded. I can still see every minute in my mind 45 years later. The chow bit me on the ankle , tore my pants, but my docile golden retriever beat the hell out of that dog.

Golden retrievers can be very aggressive when they want to be. They’ve saved many owners lives. I remember one story where a man was accosted by a man with a gun as he was walking upstairs to his apartment. The golden was inside. The man was instructed to enter his house. The dog sensed the danger and quietly came around the corner and attacked the man with the gun.

He was on alert trotting and looking around the entire walk back. I love German shepherds.
I have a German Shepherd Retriever Cross. A lovely boy and very gentle and sweet natured. Two dogs ran across the road as we were going for a forest walk and attacked him on either side - totally unprovoked. When I tried to also defend him, one then knocked me over to the ground and stopped me getting up. My brave boy not only defended me and put himself in harms way so I could get up, he then got on top of the most aggressive dog to the point I had then to pull him off as he snapped around its throat. I was really scared he would badly hurt it himself - but he did no damage, just scared it into running off. For weeks afterwards, he was alert when we went on our walks. So a scary experience, but very proud of my boy defending me, himself and yet not becoming a vicious dog in the process.
