We live in a farming community and many an Anatolian and Pyrenees dogs wind up in shelters because they lost their guarding instinct. In every single instance family members started treating them like their kids and spoiling them.

@@GLoLChibs She was given to us at 5 years old when her owner emigrated to New Zealand so how she was raised, we have no idea, however, she was never a guard dog, she was family. It's when people start treating their dogs as protectors that kids and old people get attacked and maimed by them.

I was swimming last summer when this aggressive seagull tried to attack me for some reason. Basicly i had to dodge it attacks several times for couple of minutes. There were some little birds in a nearby tree and they started make loud noises, after a while, a swarm of those little birds started to attacks seaqull and chase it away. That was pretty interesting reaction from them(i quess they probably had eggs nearby or something like that, or they just hate seaqulls)

The bigger dogs left because they weren’t the alpha in the house. They were trained to not be aggressive. In the third household, that dog was the alpha and wasn’t trained to be gentle. Clearly, the last woman’s ignorance of pack mentality allowed her dog to claim the mantle. Any dog that sees itself as the alpha or strong beta, or trained, will defend the pack. It’s that simple.
