The lady knows what she is talking about as far as understanding the dog but I could never imagine using my dogs like she. I want my dogs to run big find birds and point them, stay steady to flush and shot then release my dogs to retrieve the bird.

+Zack Johnson Hi Zack thanks but these dogs can do both! It doesnt have to be one or the other. All round gundogs!

+Zack Johnson You can best believe they are not gun shy. They point, flush, retrieve with any variation. Perfect bird dogs. I've bred and worked with GSP's and English Springers.

+Colby Hendrickes 0 yea? that's cool!!! I own 3!!!! 1 of which my female her Sire is hi-n's hurricane express, not familiar with him you should look him up. anyway my female Kettle is her name is only 2 years an and is already a field champion and a senior hunter, the oldest male I have his name is Copper which he is only 3 is one best grouse dogs in the Mtns of NC he also has his senior entitlement. my youngest (Relic) his grand dad was rawhides clown!! got to know right group ppl to find a pup now a days with rawhides bloodline so close and if your not familiar who Rawhides clown is then you really don't "know" shorthairs, my pup Relic is only 8 months and looking to possible be my best dog, he has placed first in every trail I've ran him in. If you can't tell I'm very proud of them and the work I've put in so im not sure if your comment was directed at me in a positive or negative manner but now your aware of how familiar I am with the GSP breed.
@c.h.2503
@c.h.2503 8 лет назад
+Zack Johnson no it's not negative lol. why would you take it so? I respect your love as a trainer but I've bred English Springers and GSP's, Morningstar bloodline and Skipper's 2nd Mate's. I was stating that they can be trained like any dog, in any fashion but are not prone to being gun shy, and surely as their name portrays are wonderful pointers. I hope the best for you and your 3 dogs. I'm out of the breeding game now, and haven't used my GSP for anything but cuddling and giving love! she's retired now. I cannot guarantee it as we have had probably 20-40 out of 250+ bred as housedogs only, parents hunting instinct must've skipped them or their trainers weren't as good as they claimed!

Colby Hendrickes good deal that's awesome, sounds like you have put a lot of time and energy into your breeding and training, but definitely you can train them to do anything her dogs definitely impress me a lot very obedient. I know one thing training them can be addictive especially when you start seeing positive results. Wish the best to you as well thank you very much

Have watched most of your vids very helpful .now have Bracco (4mths) how much would one expect to be “learning” over the next few months .so far come to call(mostly) sitting to hand signal(if close).my friend Trevor comes to you for extra training help so you may see me sometime.
@AyteeGSPs

Hi Asta. Thanks for your note and I'm glad that you have enjoyed the vids. Teaching through play and building confidence is what I would be doing at 16 weeks. Pup is a sponge, and will learn all the time but I would put no pressure on him/her, it must be fun and the most important thing is to build the bond at this age. If this is your first HPR you might find our training programme useful which is intended as a training guide for people who wish to work their dogs. www.aytee.co.uk/german-shorthaired-pointer-gundogs-training-information-manuals/aytee-training-level-1-beginners-puppy. Good luck and please don't hesitate to email if you have any queries on the above. Please do send Trevor very best wishes. Happy New Year !!

nice dogs - management must put out huge numbers of birds - here on the US West Coast, we train on put-and-take liberated pheasants but rarely find more than a couple every mile or two - don't see those hunters walking much at all - finally with all the shooting, think I'd forego fashion and throw on a blaze-orange vest. or at least a hat and maybe a bright collar on the dog. especially those GSPs with their natural camouflage coats
@AyteeGSPs
@AyteeGSPs 5 лет назад
Hi Dog Star, On driven days like this I dont worry because I am always behind the guns and the dogs are not usually retrieving during the drive. The beaters wear day-glo vests, being in front of the guns and there is no ground game shot for added safety. Sounds like you have some wonderful walk up shoots on wild birds, fabulous sport with these dogs - my favourite, but even then we tend not to put bright collars on our dogs - I think it would be a good idea though, thanks for the tip !

Great video, I really want a gsp but I have a family and a cat and my wife is a little unsure. Are they ok around both would you say?
@AyteeGSPs
@AyteeGSPs 5 лет назад
Hi D Tab, I would say that success depends on support from the whole family as whilst they are almost always kind dogs they can be a challenge to train as particularly around children they naturally have a high level of excitement. I would take time visiting an HPR training group, talking to owners of young dogs and getting a true insight into the breed. Good luck. .....they would of course need to be trained not to chase/kill cats.

You are incredible how do you say never show anger because that does not teach a dog anything
@AyteeGSPs
@AyteeGSPs 4 года назад
Hi Billy The dog understands best if corrected the moment it has done something wrong. I am sharp with them if they disobey a command which they understand but choose to ignore. We shouldnt ever punish them if they make us feel bad over their performance - I think that is our problem not theirs :)

How do HPRs do on driven shoots, I love the breeds but I work on a driven shoot. Could they work as a good beating dog?
@AyteeGSPs
@AyteeGSPs 4 года назад
Hi Fin, well as you can see here they do a great job picking up, but not a peg dog (too exciting) and I would be very careful beating. They are excitable and competitive dogs and if worked beating in cover strips with lots of noise and other dogs they would quickly get out of control and just learn to bump and chase birds. This would probably ruin them for rough shooting as they might stop holding a point. The only beating I might do would be something like blanking in a flank on partridge for instance where they would work alone with handler and points could be worked out as you went along. Good luck, I hope this answers your questions

Great video and beautiful dogs. Also thanks for the advice about whining - I've never know what to do with my GWP who whines when I am out deer stalking...usually when I take to long to take a shot!

+Mark Thackstone Thanks Mark, yes, taking too long setting up a retrieve, taking a shot, letting them out of the run! GSP's dont like waiting!
