So, my dad grew up in Danforth, ME, which is only like half an hour from Vanceboro. And after watching this video for the first time, I asked my grandmother (my dad's mom) about this event, and she told me the entire story from my grandfather's father's perspective. Gerald Greene, I believe his name was, and as it turned out, he was the one of the railroad policemen that took Werner Horn into custody. As a matter of fact, it was his very first day on the job. Later, in 1917, he was drafted into the army, and fought in the trenches. After my grandfather was born in 1938, he was drafted again into the army in 1941 and was assigned as a tank engineer in North Africa. He rose to the position of tank commander, and after the war in Africa was over, he was transferred to Operation Overlord during the D-Day invasion. He stormed Omaha Beach in the 3rd wave, and he was told to leave all of his kit on the boat, because he would find everything he needed on the beach from dead soldiers.
Well I guess that's evidence against Hitler. He was never going to succeed in his "third reich", not with Von "Failed-to-get-a-single-bridge-blown-up-in-the-last-war" as his vice chancelor. He's probably the one who suggested they try to double cross the Soviets and invade them during the Winter, because his last Winter Ops went so well.
As a guy from Germany I just have to say... This is just awsome ! Your imitaion of the German language / talking made me laught so hard ! Love your content Hyce !
“Imperial German accidentally makes a key mistake by assuming the train timetable is accurate” just (pardon the pun) tracks so well. Also if kAN ever comes down to the Museum, get him on the show with a trash can helmet to cover his face if he doesn’t want to show it
Kan has shown his face many times. He used to stream, and you can go watch his April fool's scrap mechanic video with scrapman. He has a face cam in an MS paint version of the gear like scrapman has
Always love these fun episodes and learning/laughing along with “Citation Needed”. I’ll see if there’s any fun stories from the Wilmington & Western and the Rockton & Rion to submit for the next season.
These 3/4 idiot shows ROCK. They never fail to leave me laughing SERIOUSLY hard. Sometimes I even forget to breathe, I'm laughing so hard. Whenever the limes come out, I start laughing, and at the end I always exclaim "HYCE!" If you four hadn't been museum railroaders you DEFINITELY could have been a comedy act! I could DEFINITELY go for more Citation Needed.
Film these during open hours as a new museum special event? I'd pay good money to watch this live... Assuming I was anywhere remotely close to Colorado. XD
Thatt happened twice?? i knew about Eugene Flucky who commanded a submarine in ww2 named the USS Barbus (Barb), and they ratioed a lot of the japanese navy as well as going "see that train that just went into that jap port? yea? i dont wanna see it". but please do tell im intrigued
@@mikefilipkowski5445 It didn’t sink an locomotive, but the crew from the ship did make an on-shore attack against an enemy train and it was credited as a “k!ll”.
@@mikefilipkowski5445 not sure about the Gato but the way the electrician on the USS Barbus did it was hook up the scuttle charge to a pressure switch, go out in the middle of the night, plant it, run like hell, and wait. train went ~200 ft in the air cuz 65 pounds of raw tnt, and went in the drink
On a side note, my dad owns the exact same brand of engine lift that sits behind Leighton. Love these videos, so sad to see season two end, so excited to see season three. Can’t wait to see who the next special guest is.❤
Love the story! The Demoman joke reminded me of a locomotive that appears in TF2 that apparently is currently at the Colorado Railroad museum. DRGW #50 if I’m correct.
love citation needed always look forward to them, but getting the second one makes me a little sad cause that means no new 3/4 idiots episodes for a while.
So cool to see Hyce and the other 3/4 of an idiot cover a topic involving my province! I was wondering why Vanceboro sounded familiar.. it's right across the border from the rail hub of McAdam, New Brunswick, which has a STUNNING chateau-style railway station/hotel that the small town just restored recently. Also, all the railroading Hyce brought me into inspired me to take a book out of the local library on the rail history of my New Brunswick - it is expansive for such a small province! So many interesting stories. From milling tycoons building loads of narrow-gauge to profit from the government subsidy of land-for-rail-mile, to trying to build a rail line from the Bay of Fundy to the St. Lawrence to bypass the winter ice, to building a SHIP RAILWAY to CARRY WHOLE SHIPS 25KM OVER LAND from the Bay of Fundy to the Northumberland Strait (the Chignecto Ship Railway) and more.. it's so cool knowing all of this happened here! A shame it all got torn up in the 80s.. P.S. No Brett, it's in New Brunswick, not Newfoundland! Newfoundland's the island on the far far eastern end, and was still an independent British colony at the time believe it or not. You probably got mixed up with their St. John's vs our Saint John.. it happens a lot..
Finally something related to war! Thank you for the bell 346! And a question for you hyce, what is your favorite bass guitar and standard electric guitar.
Omg, you idiots absolutely hilarious! Hollywood couldn’t improve on the looniness of that story! Thanks Mark for another “idiotic” season (my lime shield is up 🤣)! Looking forward to the next season’s installments! Cheers to you all.
38:37 Actually "Three quarters of these people are idiots" would be the perfect title for this imo - clear Tom Scott reference, but it is a different vibe, and also a nice reference to the three quarters joke. And the last quarter is whoever is currently giving the correct answer :P
By far some of the most entertaining railroad/history/preservation content on RU-vid. The 3/4 gang vibe so well with each other and can do well with whoever the (un)lucky fourth happens to be. Can't wait for more Citation Needed, Two of these People are Lying, and 3/4 Idiots!
This was awesome lol! I believe Brett is 4 for 4 on the Citation Needed shows. As always, great job and hopefully there will be another season of the 3/4 Idiot Show soon.
Not a very noteworthy story but a good friend of mine was a higher-up for the C&NW and later UP (he’s retired and now runs the interurbans at the IRM). He was telling me of a picture that hung up on a wall in an office in Chicago of a C&NW stack train that got stuck under a bridge with a sign that said “no stack trains”. It’s probably in a box somewhere in the dungeons of the Union Pacific HQ now lol
Something cool is the newfoundland railway was actually narrow gauge so I order to get to St John you had to change gauge on New Brunswick also newfoundland wasn't part of Canada at that point
We need to see slow-mo shot of limes exploding after beeing hit by Bret's machete! Style points if the fragments hits somebody's face (watching act of slashing vigorously on a table levlel or in the air) :D Also an advice- just tie longer string to a bell cord ;)
I have a suggestion for a future Citation Needed for an incident near my area over 100 years ago, but all I have is newspaper articles, not an official incident report from any investigation agency. A: would that be enough?, And B: if so, where shall I send it? Loved this story, and the hijinks of the 3/4 of an idiot crew. Can't wait for next season!
No! Please no sound file of that one, but some engineering for ringing it! It is sort of the random fun to see if Hyce can manage to get a single gong or two out of it :P
346 has such a lovely sounding bell. Such a great addition to this fantastic nonsense Hyce, you should have kept your moustache just for this occasion-wax it to look like Kaiser Wilhelm 😂
You got a couple timeline details wrong or didn't explain it well, he served 18 months but this was a crime committed in 1915, the war ended in 1918. He was not extradited to canada immediately, he was extradited in 1919. Also, he was sentenced to 10 years in 1919, but was found insane in 1921, due to advanced syphilis.
Not so fun fact. The disaster at Lac Megantic in 2013 occurred on this same line. I did hear of this incident before but I didn't hear of all the funny details
17:26 worth pointing out that imperial germany was a police state like most european nations and very much unlike the USA. Yeah, search and seizure and probable cause laws were veeeery different back then, but he was probably thinking that being a newcomer to the town the police would at some point seek him out and demand to see inside his suitcase
I've been watching this show for a couple of episodes and I still don't know what's up with the limes And 1-800 not my problem Friggin killed me dude XD One of you might get lime disease
