This is the world’s “first” tape-recorder.
All other professional tape recorders are a copy of this machine.
This is my first test of this machine.
More videos comes later.

日本からです。現在でも稼動可能なToneschreiberを動画とはいえ拝見できて感激しております。音質も驚くほどよく、当時のドイツの技術力の高さがうかがえます。動画本当にありがとうございます。

from Japan. I am thrilled to see Toneschreiber, which is still operational, even though it is a video. The sound quality is also surprisingly good, which shows the high level of German technology at that time. Thank you very much for the video.

I like how this old tech was built with such durability that it works so many years later where as a lot of modern tech barely lasts past warranty date

I consider this model to be one of the most important tape players in history.

In term of war time technology, yes. In audio recording history, the very first was the German AEG Magnetophon K4.from the 30's which is a very impressive machine. It was developed after magnetic tape recording was invented in 1927, again, in Germany.

@@HansOvervoorde I have written my final dissertation on this topic. The K4 are absolutely fascinating and they have inspired the music industry as we know it today.

Fantastic to see this up and running, inspires me to have another go at mine, have you tried the rotating magnetic head system yet? I believe it was designed to work with high speed mores code. The S.B.1 is very old but not the first, the first practical machine was the AEG Magnetophon K1 in 1935 thought the S.B.1(From 1939 - 1944) was the one used as a blueprint by first Ampex in the US with the 200 and then shortly after the British with the EMI BTR-1

Congratulations, and thanks for sharing it with us. As a hobbyist and radio journalist, I spent countless hours over several decades sitting in front of tape machines, often hunched over in an awkward position to mark the tape with a grease pencil, razor blade at the ready, for editing. I love the idea of having the heads facing upward, which would make the task that much more comfortable. (The downside, of course, is that complex path.) The (relatively) modern quarter-inch tape seems to work fine. Anyone know why the Germans, who would have measured their tape i millimeters, ended up with tape slit to a 0.25-inch width?
@LA6NCA
@LA6NCA 5 лет назад
Interesting to hear about your use of tape recorders. No, this was a bit weird. Why did they make the tape 1/4 "width? Modern tape fits perfectly.

Wonderful, so majestic. Those reels look scary when running at full speed. I guess in WW2 people had more things to worry about than being hit by a flying reel.
