i'm from germany and what i know about my ancestors is, that they only fought for what they love. The hearts of this men were full of honor, connected to god and they were true free man. In face of slavery and an overwheleming powerfull Reich, they choose to rather die in battle than get enslaved by the Romans. Many tribes in the germanic area fought against them not as answer of their anger. They fought for their freedom, their land and their famalies. But for the most their honor. And how i sad, they never fought for revenge, they just killed everything what is dangerous for their freedom. Nothing else.

We don't say "germanic languages" because they all came from different roots, we don't say "germanic faiths" because they all have gods originated from independent myths, we don't say "germanic peoples" because they're dissimilar from one another and come from different areas with different cultures... we say them because all those statements are true, the norse had their roots in Germania Magna, their faiths came from the same area, their language can be traced back to proto-germanic languages, and their ancestry can be traced to modern day Germany.

I just meant that the word Germanic doesn't stem from "ger", which is the word for spear. The "Germanic" peoples did not have a unified name because they were called differently depending on which tribe they belonged to. The Cherusci were a tribal confederation in ancient Germania that lived in the area on both sides of the upper basin of the Weser River in present-day Ostwestfalen-Lippe and Lower Saxony up to the Elbe. But in the region where I live, the Alemanni once lived.

@@KmT81 I think Germans originally called themselves Teuton. Before anyone tries to correct me, yes, I’m aware the Teutons were a specific Germanic tribal group. However, we are aware German and English are related as they are both Germanic languages, and it’s been theorized by people who specialize in linguistics that the “Th” in English is a “D” in German. In English, we have the word “Teuton”. If you use any trustable translator, the word for “Teuton” in German is “Deutsch”. That word means “German” when you translate it back to English. (I speak German and am German by the way). Germans likely called themselves Teutons/Teutonic but English speakers adapted the Roman word. “Germanic” is actually a Roman term. I don’t specialize in linguistics I just noticed that.

There is a video here on RU-vid showing the Barratus but it is a representation of the adopted form performed by the Romans. Although it is not known to us if the Romans used it as a battle cry or as a ceremonial salute. The Romans from our best sources tended to march into battle in dead silence with only their instruments performing sound maneuvers. If you type in the Roman Barratus you should find some interesting things on the subject. It's pretty cool either way. 👍

I’m Germanic, love my heritage, and still believe in Jahwe/Jesus. The first ever translation of the Bible that common people could have was in German. There is a very deep history with Germania and Christianity.
