In case anyone needs context: The co-pilot, Andreas Lubitz, was planning to commit suicide by crashing the plane with a controlled descent. When the captain was out of the cockpit, he locked the cockpit door and began to bring the plane down. The pilot banging on the door trying to get in was the captain, and sadly the door didn't budge which caused the plane to crash into a hill, leaving all 150 occupants dead. He had previously been treated with suicidal tendencies and was told unfit for work by his doctor. Andreas Lubitz decided to keep this information from all of his employers to be able to crash the plane
I live nearby to where the pilot and his family lived (Montabaur/Germany). His family actually had to move to another city because they got a lot of threats and hate from others. just sad to see how one man can destroy so many lifes plus his family's for his actions.
context: the co-pilot of the plane was either mentally ill or depressed. he had a plan to crash one of the flights he was on. as soon as the pilot left the cockpit, he closed and locked the door. as he did that, he pitched the nose down a bit, crashing it and killing everyone on board. and another thing is, this was in 2015, so after 9/11 they had updated the doors of cockpits to be strong, even a hammer can’t take it down. EDIT: there was also a crash before 9525, in which the pilot(?) was mentally ill, so he decided to crash the plane in the same manner. the plane slid, and disintegrated immediately
on the cvr, you can actually hear the captain saying “open the damn door” and banging sounds coming from outside. its not public but thats all the public information i can get
I feel awful for the pilot…. The Panic, Fear and Guilt he must of felt when he realised he couldn’t get in and therefore couldn’t save everyone’s lives…. I remember watching this episode on TV. As I recall, the investigation/documentary revealed the pilot’s doctor recommended he take time off, because of his depression.
And it s ok to fear something like that. Dont know why everyone act like one should be ok with flight by all costs, but it s not like that. I personally hate airplanes and i will take it again only if there is no other choice
For those who don't wanna read long paragraphs: Co Pilot is suicidal, locks himself in cockpit while captain is in the washroom, captain can't get in, crashes the plane on purpose, no survivors.
So... he was told by his doctor to not get on a plane because he was suicidal, neglects to inform his employers of this fact, gets on the plane and decides "I'm going to be a selfish c__t and take everyone with me. Because if I have to be miserable then so do their families!" and proceeded to crash the plane. I know depression and suicidal urges are not simple things, and those that suffer from both deserve love and to be looked after and helped. But there genuinely is no excuse for what he did. Depression or no depression what he did was disgustingly selfish.
😂 Clearly you have no idea what depression does to people when it finally hits you at its worst I find You Disgusting for not understanding how it's deadly and how Serious depression can get no I Don't approve of those people dying on that plane and nor Do I approve of his actions I do Find it deplorable but You have to understand the Human mind is Nothing More than a Time Bomb When it's filled with nothing but mental illness instead of just blaming the pilot you need to blame the company as well It's the company's responsibility to make sure they're pilot mental health and well-being are in check and that pilot was not. Seriously please for the love of whatever you believe and actually learn about depression before you start speaking because depression can kill a person at any time at any moment and the terrible thing is it's a slow fucked up process and if anyone does survive it they are more than likely to try again and again and again. Until they find a more permanent solution.
@G36-Strelok Actually it's a chemical imbalance in the brain. It can happen to anyone but basically it throws every single emotion you have asunder. It's more biological than biblical, if ya get me.
That's the problem with aviation law - if you're grounded for a serious mental depression/ illness or have expressed your will to end your life , you are completely blackballed from a career you've lived your whole life and can never return. So essentially you lose everything you've worked your whole life for and can destroy families etc. You might say good , that no one being treated by a doctor or on medication should be able to continue but the catch is , instead of close medical supervision and consistent monitoring , you have pilots who are too terrified to say anything for fear of losing their entire worlds which drives them to try self medicate or ignore and hide the problem which is how you get this. I fly and have seen this more than once from colleagues , not necessarily depression but other threatening medical conditions, surgery while abroad on "holiday" in order for it not to show on medical or medication history , purely because all of us know that being honest to the authorities would result in our entire worlds collapsing. You'd be quite surprised to learn how many do this.
The reason he didn't inform his superiors about his mental health was not of fear of losing his job but simply he didnt have to. Back then in Germany it was optional to tell your boss about your mental evaluations. Such was the law to protect ones freedoms.
Germanwings 9525 was a flight from Barcelona to Düsseldorf, at cruising altitude the Captain left the cockpit and whilst gone the First Officer locked the door and started a controlled descent into the mountains below. The First Officer had suicidal tendencies and was declared unfit to work by his doctor however he kept this information from his employer. 144 passengers and 6 crew were killed and now there must be at least 2 crew members in the cockpit at all times.

U dont know anything, he was familiar with the instruments, but he was suicidal and killed everyone on the plane cuz he crashed it. Please dont spread misinformation and dont make the copilot seem innocent
From what I remember (correct me if I’m wrong), the main pilot went to take a bathroom break and while he was gone, the co pilot started descending the plane at a rapid pace to which the main pilot had gotten out of the bathroom and saw what was happening. So he tried to open the door but it was locked due to a feature that prevented hijackers to get in. He banged on the door yelling “OPEN THE DAMN DOOR” repeatedly as it kept on descending. But the co pilot didn’t listen then it sadly crashed. Turns out not too long back he had a doctors note saying he was mentally ill and couldn’t fly but he managed to hide it.
