Most of this is rather local rainfall though: heavy rainfall in the local areas with (usually) friendly streams and trickling waterways leading to flooding of these waterways, especially downstream. There's not much to be done unfortunately, just like a few years ago with the Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler floods, most of it was caused by very local, very heavy showers, which just poured down the hillsides in local areas, where normally friendly streams/rivers and whatnots just could not handle the amount of water and spilled, just like the floods in the Dutch province of Limburg in the same time-frame of the Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler floods were mostly caused by local rainfall in Germany, which flowed downstream to the Netherlands, where the Geul and (I think) Nieuwe Maas met, problems started. Nothing could be done against is, as water already flows downstream and there are no retention measures around those points or in those rivers. The Netherlands does have a lot of spill-grounds installed since 1995 or so, areas of land that are purposedly built to flood should a river not be able to handle all the water coming through. I'm afraid you miss out on how far these countries are apart and how little their water-retention measures affect eachother. It's just not their height difference that does it.

Thanks and greetings from Wertingen, that is flooded by the Zusam "River". Normally it's 4 Meter wide and around 1 Meter deep. Now it's at some Points around 250 Meter wide and around 4 Meters deep. 71 cubic Meters waterflow per second. I'm 38 years old and i've never Seen this before. Also the Donau is a devastating Force and threat at the other Side. Now they flood the fields controlled around Dillingen to lower the pressure. Greetings to Missouri✌️

This is from yesterday or two days ago. The situation is still ongoing in some areas in the south of Germany. Unfortunately they found yesterday two people dead in her cellar, because in this village water came quickly within minutes. Also some firefighters are dead.

Vienna will be intresting as they have some of the biggest four Danube defense I ever saw. So it will be interesting to see how it fares. Yesteday there was 100% no mention of flooding there. I looked. Linz will be worth a look at as I do not see the same level of defence.

Europe has climate change every year and has had for 10 centuries. Of course some climate change (Winter to spring to Summer) plays a significant part. The Donau is the main outlet in Deautschland for all the winter snow melt from the Northern side of the Alps. LOL. The Donau has always been a big river. Likely since the last Ice age. It's just the fact there was a lot of rain coenciding with normal winter melt.
