I recently heard Van Basten suggest that an interesting rule change would be to only blow for offside when the attacking player's body is completely beyond the last defender. That way attacking players would have significantly more time to run away from the defender, but without the game becoming a free for all.

I don’t know about Germany but if England win it it will cause a tear in the space /time continuum I expect.

I agree - Rudiger my favorite defender now. And the man is totally nuts, but also so intelligent as a defender. Wish he was still on Chelsea. Underrated defender, imho

I felt dreadfully sorry for Italy even though they beat us in our own backyard. They were hopeless in group stage in 82 but switched it up in the knockouts and knowing how they usually are I was certain they’d do similar if not same, but I’ve never seen an Italian give up without a fight as this Italian team did against Switzerland.

all those talk about 'this is a chance to feel better' and 'after a win Switzerland will not look as daunting', reminded me of the smacktalk before the Iceland game 2016. Pundits all over were certain England would win and it would finally transform the team from 'lackluster' to 'tournament winning', Iceland being the perfect sparring partner. And how did that work out?
