For years, Germany has struggled to own up to its colonial history in Africa. One aspect of that is stolen cultural atrefacts, which are now on display at several German museums. A collection known as the Benin Bronzes are a case-in-point - the British sold them throughout Europe in the 19th century. Now, Berlin is to sign a deal formally recognizing the pieces as property of Nigeria.

I support this as a German, but i do not support this hypocritical, superficial narrative around and propagated resentment and collective punishment As far as i know Germany bought these Artifacts from UK who stole these. So its not "Europe" but explicit Countries. Also the African Continent is not the only continent where this happened in Wars. Germany was also robed in Wars. Till today Art is missing, yet i do not blame a whole continent, but rather the Country who did this and till today did not returned these artifacts. This whole Africa vs. Europe narrative by some media, politicians and activist is just further racist, colonial bs disguised as "for the good cause". As a German i take responsibility for German Crimes, but i do not take responsibility for French or British Crimes. Like i do not blame "all Africans" for Rwanda or other Europeans Nations for German Crimes. What have other "European" countries like Slovenia or Iceland to do with French, British or German Crimes? The subtle idea of collective punishment in this "de-colonial" debate is dark medieval thinking like the colonizer themselves. Peace

Europe needs new energy source. Middle east is mostly commited to Asia. America cannot supply enough. Africa has lots of energy resources. So now, Europe returns the stolen treasures in order have good relations and buy energy. Such a shame that the treasures are only returned to get something in return when it should have been rightfully returned years ago after colonism ended. In the past, Europe said Africa didn't have resources to properly preserve and protect the treasures of Africa but now that Europe needs energy from Africa, all of a sudden Africa has the resources to protect their own treasure. Hopefully, now that the European think Africa can protect it's resources, African countries can get their national treasures back from all over Europe.

Okay...so the kingdom of Benin murdered two British men who was there to to demand the end of slavery of Africans but the kingdom of Benin refused as they made most of their revenue So the British empire responded by sacking the city and destroying the empire by murdering it's diplomats, in war historically you're entitled to war booty or the enemies goods That's how they ended up in Europe, so who deserves it? It's like justifying stealing by telling that I can keep it better. It's like you are buying a hoodie and a thief steal it by giving reason that you can't protect it from stealing therefore I stole it and you don't have the right to it lmao

Can I steal your car since I can safely drive it, your money since I can safely invest it better . The way some of you Europeans think is so appalling, you should return the artefacts with apologies. It was safely kept in the palace for centuries before you stole them in the first place.
