As someone from Konstanz: During WW2 we used to leave our lights on instead of turning them off like many other cities did to avoid getting spotted by bombers. We wanted the Americans to think we were part of Switzerland, and they did fall for it. As a result, Konstanz has a wonderful old town untouched by the bombs of World War 2 and is, in my opinion, the prettiest city on the Lake of Constance and one of the prettiest in Germany.
The not existing joke is funny but its overused. They should rather make a joke about bielefeld trying their hardest to Plan the worst projects in existence. Jahnplatz Umbau, disowning shopowners to build ugly Neubauten. Cringe city government
That joke never gets old. In 2016, the city of Bielefeld personally promised prize money of 1 million euros for the person who can prove that Bielefeld does not exist. The prize money has not yet been redeemed and is still available, and the whole of Germany laughs at this thesis that Bielefeld does not exist. 😂
No, I live there and apart from the Bahnhofsviertel it’s a great city. The high crime rate is mostly due to the airport, it’s the largest in Germany and all customs and smuggling crimes committed there are counted toward’s the city’s crime rate.
I really have to applaud the genius of those punks who invaded Sylt - in stereotypical German fashion it was VERY well coordinated. They mailed cartons of beer (in cans) to the local DHL lockers on Sylt so they already had sufficient beer supplies in place by the time they arrived. Yes, Deutsche Bahn may suck. Yes, our politics may sometimes be a dumpster fire. But when it comes to establishing a steady supply of beer, Germans can be relied upon. We take our beer very seriously. ;)
Some Hannover lore: Hannover is situated where it is because there happened to be a high riverbank (that's where Hannover gets its name from: "Honovere", which translates to "At the high riverbank") safe from regularly occurring floods of the resident Leine river. In addition to this, at the place of Hannover's founding, there happened to be a stream island and relatively slim river plain plus shallow ford, making for a good point to cross the river there. Perhaps because of that, there was a crossing of two major roads at that location. So naturally, a medieval mercantile town would flourish there, as sources suggest, as early as 950 a.d. . (this comment is a mediation of a German Wikipedia article, so excuse my poor grammar)
Im from its biggest rival, braunschweig which was even more influential at one point and the canadian province new braunschweig is named after it. The rivarly between the cities has been going on for over hundrets of years, whenever there is a football game between them cops from other towns have to come and help contain the ultras
@@rcookie5128 I love Etymology too! That's why I already knew about the origins of my home city's name. The rest was a bit tedious but fun research^^ So: here's a speedfire round of the briefest possible origins of some of Germany's big cities: -Berlin: from the slavic "birl/berl", meaning swamp, and the common suffix -in. basically "swamp city" -Hamburg: from "hamme" meaning crook or turn, likely referring to the curvy Alster river nearby. burg just means castle. -Munich/München: from "munich/münich" meaning monk, related to the town being gifted to a monastery. so "The monks' town" -Stuttgart: from "stuotgarte", a compound word meaning "horse garden", or stud farm. -Rostock: from the slavic "roztok/rostok" meaning "parting of a river", referring to the Warnow river spreading out towards the baltic sea. -Bochum: from "bukhem/bokheim" with buk(e)/bok(e) refering to the beech tree, and -heim, a common suffix for german towns simply meaning home. ( it's very common in germany to have towns named after trees) -Dresden: from the old sorbian "drezd'any" meaning "denizens of the swamp valley". so yeah, germans really like their rivers, trees and swamps when naming their towns.
To be honest, I'm surprised that the comments are all in English, because when something Germany - related gets posted, it normally doesn't take very long until the entire comment section is talking in German.
Funny thing, i live in Germany since 2012, and have no idea about the topic. Except the rural part. You can't call someone alcoholic, just because he drinks beer every day. Is just beer. (I meant it in a satirical way)
The stuttgart capitalist one got me because my grand parents moved to stuttgart in like 74 so the can live as capitalist as possible then moved back to Yugoslavia because they had enough money in 80
This brings an anecdote to mind. Many years ago I had this buddy of mine living in the north of Germany and we wanted to hang out. He was always telling me about how cool of a city he thought Frankfurt is, especially the inner city around the skyscrapers and so forth... As someone living in Frankfurt all his life, I tried to lower his expectations just a little... The bottom line is that when he came over to Frankfurt and wanted to see the main station area with me and another friend after 20-30 minutes he started looking visibly more and more disgusted and distressed until he begged us to "just go away from here and go to your place"(my place), not to mention the wonderful constant smell of junky urine almost everywhere at the main station. Frankfurt has some beautiful areas along its newly redone Altstadt at the Römer, the Main River, and further out from the inner city, but I am not surprised that when people only know the main station and Hauptwache/Zeil that they rightfully believe it to be one if not the worst city in all of Germany. I am after all still a proud Hessian that acknowledges the many issues around here.
@@MichaeltheORIGINAL1 I feel your friend, my father also hyped frankfurt, as one of the financial and skysrcaper centre of Europe. Lets just say he got kinda disappointed during our 10 hour layover there.
I always find funny that all this Germany slander videos agree completely on 1)Saarland being the Alabama of Germany 2) dudes in köln are not very manly 3) Frankfurt is capitalistic af
As a queer person just outside Germany, Köln is basically the only German city that regularly pops up on my radar (aside from the here conspicuously absent Berlin).
@@user.2.2 Exactly, it's quite bold of any Hessian to complain that somebody else doesn't speak German. If some old person spoke in their dialect to someone who is not from the area, they might as well speak Arabic, it wouldn't be any harder to understand.
Me being from Hanover immediately starting in my head "we used to be a kingdom!" etc. then realizing I am literally the person shown in the clip. I even have a cig in my hand hahaha
The thing is that HSV fans are a dichotomy: either they still have passion in which case the clip is accurate or the last 12 to 13 years have turned them into an emotionless stone when it comes to HSV
Idk if I want to laugh or cry at the first one, Munich rents are so insane. Honestly I'm starting to think it's a huge social experiment to see how expensive you can make an otherwise average city
This person standing in front of wall needs this text: Mönchengladbacher when trying to explain that their city is known for something else than the football club
I mean when i looked up bochum the first thing tht came up was, that some 1 year old kid fucking died in a kindergarden 7 hours ago so yeah checks out.
@@KiffKan Jesus, I didn't even know that. I just know that someone got murdered at my local Rewe supermarket, which is why there is now a guy standing at the entrance all the time.
I approve of memes portraying Frankfurt as a violent shithole, because maybe that will stop the fifty thousand additional small town yokels trying to move here every year, driving up rents and standing on the wrong side of escalators.
Frankfurt ist aber wirklich asi. Hab nen 6 jährigen cousin aufgewachsen in Frankfurt.
Yeah my friends took this years and some told me to just don’t next year xD out Math teachers said 5 points were possible lol. So much happiness about the new system.
Yup I'm so glad I wrote mine in 2019 nice and chill, my brother is normally a good student and wrote his Abitur couple weeks ago, fat old RIP, had his final grade drop about 0.5 or so
Da muss man schon etwas genauer hinschauen.
Lower-saxony is the truest thing ever. We once did a 16 hour bike tour and I'm not shitting you every single place we passed through had the same exact junction with the same exact farm building to the left, felt like we passed the same place like 10 times
When Neubrandenburg ppl explains (insert several times) that their place is not "new Brandenburg" sitting beside Brandenburg : (I once thought that NB was near Brandenburg too, es tut mir so leid lol)
Damn that about rural people being alcoholic hits hard In Saarland on every little festival in every little place with more than 10 people there is a stand with beer and everyone can't walk straight anymore after like 2 hours
I railed some super cute femboys in Cologne, unfortunately, not all fem guys there are as adorable and cute as the two in the clip here. ;) I'm super straight, bro, feminine, cute fem-guys, trans girls and hot biological girls all the way for life! ;)
Apologies in advance, Grammar-Sachse moving through: *taught (thought is 'gedacht' and not 'beigebracht' like you aimed for, very understandable mistake tho ngl)
What's Wilhelmshaven like these days? It wasn't in the video, but as a foreigner history buff I know at least in the past it was a major port city for you guys (and a naval base).
To those who'd like to know that Hamburg part, it's about the city's football club. They got relegated for the first time ever back in 2018. As of 2023, they missed out on promotion by a narrow margin in every season of theirs in the 2nd tier so far.
@@warcrimeconnoisseur5238 yea almost all of the immigrants are actually chill people. As a Turk immigrant myself tho there are also sadly people who dont appreciate living in germany and defy the law everywhere to enrich themselves. But all in all im happy with the current situation
The footage that you used for Lower-Saxony is actually from the Netherlands. ''Groene hart'' on the brown sign translates to ''Grun Herz'' or ''Green Heart''
Well, I recently moved to Munich. The rent is expensive, but at least the apartment is good and well located. It's definitely better than São Paulo, where rent was high as fuck and it took me 2 hours in public transport to get to work (and another 2 to get back).
@@Shishatroniker68 If you consider the exchange rate, certainly not. But if you consider the ratio of rent divided by the average salary, it's much worse, yes.
