About the colours, after WW1, due of the blockade by the British Navy ( the Dutch made a little profit ) the pigments for those beautifull coulours were very hard and got very expensive to get. So the the DRG diceded to use the colours red and black only. The long term consequences of war!
The consequence went that far, that the German Navy really had to play a role in WW2, because the people thought they were cowards in WW1 and didn't do nothing. Indeed there was not really a big sea battle. eSo the horrible U-boot Krieg ( submarine war ) was started. As if not war or any form of violence is horrible. Anyway
