During my Bachelor's studies, my professor actually was one of my staff. Gave me a B on a paper and my friend an A. My friend laughed because she wanted to show me the professor was bias and did not read the papers. It was a medical billing class and she wrote about Norm and Carla from Cheers. Got an A. Needless to say I did bring this up.
I'm a student teacher in Edmonton and several of my profs have showed clips of this show as examples of how NOT to teach. This clip was shown as an example of how NOT to assess/grade. However, the profs and I all love this show! Great comedy.
Wow, this seems so thought-through that you can actually imagine some teachers doing exactly the same thing. Must have been written by someone who would know....
He was my teacher for 4 years and my favourit teacher. Every class was a real treat, always looking forward to them. Took OAC Kineseology because it was the only way I could have a class with Mr. D my last year of high school and I'm so glad I did. Funniest class I ever had in my life!
It's hyperbole but some stuff is true. I always make an answer key but I do mark the smart kids first. If they don't match up I double check their answer and the answer key.
I was marking grade 9 essays, and I can kind of relate to this. It's exaggerated for humor but there is universal truth there that all teachers can relate to. IT's so funny!
what he said about the essay questions is so true. my teacher once gave me a 1/3 on one of those. when i asked what i did wrong to miss two marks he just stared at me and said "it wasn't what i was looking for". what a duesh
At my previous school we believed that the teachers would throw the papers up a flight of stairs and you would get a mark depending on how high up the stairs your paper landed.
I've been waiting for that guy in the green shirt to finally get on some sort of show. He's was in video on trial and like every commercial ever made. Plus he looks like Jason Sudeikis.
I came into my English class today, and my teacher said: "So, I've been marking your essays all weekend...And this is basically it." And then shows us this video. Somehow I'm not comforted...
I had a high school math teacher whom I witnessed "grading" homework papers as follows: she briefly glanced at the front and back of the pages to see that there was something written on them, made a mark in her grade book, then tossed the pages in the trash. She no more checked the students' answers than a cow chewing cud did. 🤪
I wish it were that easy to grade things. Unfortunately, in the real world, there is something called 'lawsuits.' However, he IS hilarious and definitely worth watching.
I teach Seniors in high school. They already know grading procedures, blah, blah, blah... they've been in the system for 12 years. I show this to them on the first day of school after going quickly through the required rhetoric to show them how it's "really done." I'm a math teacher--- I HATE grading written work, but my AP Statistics course actually has more discussion, language, and explanation than regular math. Ugh!!! Love the course, hate the grading! (oh- I DO actually read every word for every student. Lol)
