man he is one of the grittiest leaders syracuse has had the privilige of watchin for 4 years....he will be remembered here for a long time along with the greats
Gerry is awesome. He is on the Utah Jazz roster right now for preseason. I had met him once and he posed for a picture with my daughter. He will always be one of my all-time favorites.
McNamara was very exciting to watch. He was a very passionate player and gave it 100% on every play. He was a reliable, clutch elite shooter. #Legend 🐐
This guy came to play. Anyone fortunate to see him play knows he left it all on the court. Most clutch player in Syracuse history, although I have heard Billy Gabor played much the same way. Hustle, pure hustle.
I am from Scranton and I know that he is the 7th leading scorer in all of Pennsylvania High School Basketball history. I can think of only Wilt Chamberlain from Philadelphia and Kobe Bryant from Lower Merion High School, outside of Philly, so he is among some big names. Very upsetting he never went to the NBA. Every game he played was as if it were for championship!
i saw the kid make a three pointer from the right corner to beat notre dame as time expired. jeremy mcneil made two free throws for what seemed to be the first time all year and we held the irish for a stop to close the lead to one. when mcnamara's man left him to double on carmelo, he got the pass and drained the shot. the mother of all money shots.
That was sad at the end of the video. It's unfortunate Gerry had to have all of those injuries at the end of his career when all of the NBA scouts where out looking at him. So sad for one of the greatest, most inspirational players from here in Scranton and the great city of Syracuse, one of my favorites.
He should have been drafted anyway, my man had heart and game. When you see a coach snapping like that to the media it's because he knows what kind of player he is. Small guys can ball too, he never was scared of the big moment either. Melo didn't win that championship by himself, Gerry was ballin right there with him. Gerry, I respect your game - you should have been given to chance to prove it!
Dude, he DID go out on a high note. Didn't you see HOW they got to the Tourney? It could be argued he gave the greatest performance in NCAA Conference Championship history.
The only sad thing was that his last collegate game he was sick/injured and SU lost in the Tourney (To Texas A&M I think?) I would have liked to have seen him go out on a high note. He was probably the most popular player in Syracuse history. Derrick Coleman would probably be the only one close to him in popularity.
He stayed because he never got picked up by a pro team. Even today, he's playing overseas. He vacationed with my family last year and at the time he was playing in Germany, doing very well though. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve his shot, he just hasn't been given one.
hard to call someone overrated when they are 6th on the all time scoring list on the 5th most winningest college basketball team of all time...G-mac is legendary in the cuse.
Gerry - Awesome career @ SU. You're a NBA Pro always in my book - and you would of made a great one there too! Just work with coach and get SU to NCAA championship - that's all that matters in schema of life.
its no disrepect to sherm or pearl, Gerry had nobody his junior and senior years. and very underdeveloped demetrius nichols? terrance roberts? devo? daryl watkins? and Gerry never played shooting guard. when he was in the game he was the point guard
