Gershwin was a genius composer and highly distinctive performer whose talents were gone far too soon. The mind boggles at what George might have done with even half of the time Ira outlived him by. This is the reason for having old school, excellence has no expiration date and genius immortal! George will he heard like Bach & Mozart- thru the ages. Thanks for recalling the masters technique with your own topspin. Keep 'em coming- Klav
Such joy and life in this excellent transcription (and yes, I thought of "joy" before the end title came up!). A real pleasure to revisit this page several years after I first heard it and find it just as pleasurable. Thanks Terry for sharing it.
my highest praise is that if Oscar Levant was in another room listening to you play Do Do Do he would be eating his heart out thinking he was hearing George
For me, it's the three B's all the way baby - [Jimmy] Blythe, [Roy] Bargy, and [Frank] Banta. But, Gershwin was certainly up there and I'm sure that Mr. Bargy and Mr. Banta might have later been as influenced by him as he was by them. This is a really sweet arrangement, and I mean in the tender sense as well as just being really tasty novelty piano playing. Great job cutting it! I just got this transcription and it is really hard! You manage to get his groove going again!
very fine interpretation with a lot of swing! one can see the 20th-girls dancing charleston on the cancefloor. I would be happy if I could play the stride like you!
Great job! You really bring this song to life. Sounds like a transcription of Gershwin's 1926 recording of this song. Is the sheet music available someplace?
This recording has been transcribed at least four times, by Artis Wodehouse, Jack Gibbons, this fellow, and Yuki Matsuri. Ms. Wodehouse's transcription is commercially available in a folio along with other transcriptions of most (all?) of Gershwin's other piano solo records of his songs. I think the publisher is Alfred but not sure. Mr. Matsuri's transcription is on his website. I am not aware of Mr. Gibbons' or harriter88's transcriptions being available, I think they are for their own personal use, but you're welcome to ask them.
Hello I'm a Paris Opera Dancer and in love with Gershwin!! Where can I have this version in mp3 please?I 'd like to write a solo on this music; Thanks and felecitation!!
@MiraFransuccess50on @TrinkBruder This man here has done a fine transcription of this recording, and a fine performance. If you want the sheet music to another transcription of the same recording, go here. Enjoy!: Gershwin : Do Do Do (1926)
Check yukimatsuri's page. He has a link to his sheet music site with several Gershwin transcriptions of recordings and piano rolls. Warning: they are not for the faint of heart!
