Typically my art takes 2-3 weeks just like you, so it was wonderful to see you use the outline-shape tool to speed up the process! I haven't used that since PAINT TOOL SAI days! I need to pick it up again, because seeing you do everything in one day really proves how fast you got through to the detail portion of your art.
Actually I had luck with the pose. I am currently trying to make a new sketch and it's painful how long it already takes. Actually in Paint tool sai. Clip Studio offers such a seamless work flow that I don't want to miss it. Sai is a bit hard for me right now lol
@@kurohshiro I love Sai but I've been trying to transition to CSP like you have in the video. So I get you. My problem is I can't seem to get into the workflow, but your video definitely helps! I just really like the stabilizer on SAI too much, but there's no textured/depth brushes on there so CSP it is. Poses are rough, so good luck with that! I won't lie, it's a whole other skill set to level up LOL
It takes forever to finish a piece for me, because at some point I start seeing all the flaws in it and try to correct them, and the more I correct the more there are to correct :D I will try to finish in one day following the steps, thanks for the video 💜
Omg that's so relatable tbh. Like I do my sketch, I like it. Then I ink it and start to notice proportional issues then I fix them and colour it, see mistakes again, fix them and make everything worse. Then I end up with 4 corrected paint overs and the original looked still the best lol I so sorry for that. I think that's why I tested to draw faster so that I won't get attached to any of my steps and be more carefree ^^
Kuroshiro always releasing videos that are relevant to an art issue I'm currently dealing with! Aside from art studies, I want to do more character illustrations but I always feel they take me so long and I eventually give up/lose motivation. Hopfully your method will help me get one done soon! Thanks as always!
Thank you! I am glad you like it 😌 studies are a really good starting point and from there you could study character illustrations of artists and apply them to your own process. I actually want to study more as well :)
Yooo one day that’s insane - I tried a few times to finish birthday present artworks on the same day as their birthday and failed miserably - I normally spend an average of 20-30 hours so damn, only 9 hours for an artwork with little quality difference from your usual art is pretty neat. I really like the colors in this piece - maybe because I’m bias since red is my favourite color, but I like how the saturated red stands out from the blue and purple hues, it looks really mesmerising lmao. The effects look really cool! I feel like the outline brush kind of ruins the lines in a way because there is no line variation especially in the hair due to the fact it has constant width but it’s not noticeable so yeah
9h is actually really unusual for me. 20 to 30 hours sound more realistic. But I recently noticed that my art isn't necessarily better when I take longer so I forced it this way. Even if this means using the outline function. I do agree. It's a fast shortcut to put down shapes but in the end I should have inked the parts as well to make them less stiff and include line variation. Thanks for your comment. I appreciate this constructive criticism :)
It is incredible the effort you put into each of your jobs so that they turn out perfect. It shows that you like to do them in the best possible way, but in one day!!! That is beyond amazing!! I love your style and your videos are fascinating!! . Thank you for showing your techniques, seeing them makes me want to draw to reach that level, even if it takes me a while I will keep trying, thank you for being a role model!!! ❤
Omg that's such a sweet and encouraging comment! Thank you so much, I am trying my best. I always think that the videos should be more entertaining, quicker paced, cooler projects etc. So I am glad you like it. Thanks again for letting me know!
thank you for the video 🩵🩵 seeing your use of references really helps. And watching you go through all the gradient maps was interesting to see how all the colors worked out!! And the use of the outline tool!! it makes me want to try it more!! You're amazing!! thank you for making art!
Oh thank you! I love this outline function so much. It speeds up my process and is satisfying to apply haha and yes the gradient maps kinda gave me an headache because there are so many options and so many do look nice lol thanks for your comment 🙇♂️
I love your art and watching your process is always a treat! It's so great to see that it's actually possible to finish something that looks really amazing and not spend a week on it. My ultimate nemesis is the lineart part. Somehow after linearting all the energy that was there while they were just sketches is gone and it's so disappointing to see every time, haha... And the "I don't know when to stop" while rendering is so true! The unending loop of corrections XD Thank you for the amazing video, it's very helpful and motivating as always!
Aw thanks for your kind comment! I can feel this about investing everything into the first 2 steps and then not finding the motivation and drive to finish the last parts. I actually do have 3 almost finished rendered wips on my computer but I don't finish them because they are okay like they are but I don't want to continue working on them. This sounds a bit weird when I think about it. Anyway, I am wishing you all the best :)
ive been beating myself up lately for taking too long on finishing pieces and then i feel like i need to rush to complete stuff then end up disappointed 💕 this is literally exactly what i needed lol
I think as long as you're comfortable with the speed everything is okay :) I know some people who make godlike art in hours and I take weeks and it's nearly as good. But I guess that's part of a learning process and the thing that matters the most is to have fun and then time doesn't matter anymore :)
Wow skipping lineart seems like the must do to draw faster... I really love your drawings, they motivate me so much! And this kind of tutorials are really helpful!! Thanks for doing them! I always end up dropping my digital drawings because they don't look as I want, I'll try this method tho... Hopefully I don't drop it next time after spending a lot of time doing a lineart I don't like haha
Thank you! It's actually sad to imagine spending a long time on a piece and then dropping it. That's why I tried with this quick process to not get too attached to my art so that dropping and abandoning it would be easier and less of a time waste. I hope it helps your process! I am cheering for you ☺️
Currently watching this, I love the way you draw I personally draw in a semi realistic way so idk if this will help 😅 I'm a start drawing while continuing to watch this
Ohh then I am wishing you a lot of fun! I am actually starting a new drawing as well. I think in this video the rendering was more Anime like and I missed the semi realistic rendering. But there are still things I can apply to my usual work flow :)
oh wow, another wonderful video, Kuro! 🙇🏻♀️🌼 It's so nice seeing your process, and I find it amazing how you were able to do this in such a shortframe of time! I 😅 for me personally, rendering takes up quite a bit of my time; especially the earlier stages when you can't figure out what color lighting or scheme to really go for. Your video has definitely inspired to try to be quicker & flexible though :)! Thanks again Kuro for the hardwork !
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me! Yes colouring takes a long time for me as well. But interesting. The first part of rendering is fun and then it gets frustrating for me haha
I think one thing to mention is that you can only draw fast after you get really good at drawing slow. For lots of beginner artists, they want to draw fast and quick like all the professionals they see online, but that’s all a misconception!! All these experts and your favorite artists, they all started somewhere, and they didn’t rush it. To get good and draw fast like kuro, you need to go the full processes multiple times until it becomes natural, then you can take shortcuts.
That's a very valid point. Yiu have to know what parts of your usual process you can skip in order to receive the same outcome. I still think in the beginning stages quantity is important to have a collection of various pieces to analyse and spot mistakes since mistakes are repeated and to spot them you have to find patterns. Thanks a lot for your comment!
Thank you so much for sharing process and giving amazing advice to boot, awesome video. You're art is incredible and inspiring! Watching this video really helped me with my art block, hope to reach your level of skill one day, going to keep practicing :) The longest part of the process for me is brainstorming and then sketching the idea/getting anatomy correct, etc. Sometimes I never get to the color part but hope to change that.
Oh wow thanks for your kind words here. I really appreciate it. Yeah Sketching is such a odd thing. Sometimes it's a thing of few minutes and sometimes it's a process over the span of 3 days or more. Once i reached the colour stage the piece has a higher chance of getting finished. I am wishing you the best of success for your drawings! I am sure you're doing an amazing job 😌
@@kurohshiro You're welcome! Yeah, sketching is a process that is very fickle lol I feel the same, once coloring starts I go for the finish line. Appreciate it! 🙂
Thats awesome to hear! Actually I didn't know where and how to finish illustrations faster. The effect part here took so long. So I am wishing you all the best for your art!
My usual hours for an art mostly 8 hours and it takes some time 😭 but omg when I look at your art it is more perfect then mines thank you very much for sharing these turorials ❤ your arts are literally the best
Woah that's fast! I guess for me pushing myself to draw faster helps to identify what parts could be optimised for my future drawing processes. Thanks a lot for your comment :)
This is so helpful! Thank you! The longest part of the process is always the sketch for me... I need multiple layers of sketches, refining it with each layer, to get a result I'm happy with.
Absolutely agree with this. Sketches can take ages in order to look good. I noticed when I rush sketches everything will start to look wonky because the Base was rushed.
Thank you! Yes I worked a bit with pint tool sai these days and I missed wo many good features which I just got used to. Thanks for your comment! Good luck with your work :)
this was super insightful! you inspired me to experiment more with Clip Studios Layer Effects and use more textured brushes. I think we all know that feeling of having 200 brushes laying around in our library and only ever using the same three brushes haha
Yes exactly! There are so many options: effect layers, brushes, filters etc and in the end the combination of all of them is endless which is quite overwhelming. I am glad the video was inspiring in this regard. I learnt that sometimes less is more ^^
That's a very good advice! I do run into the problem that my cleaned up Sketch isn't clean enough to function as lineart because it's not as thin and erasing would take longer than inking it. But I might try this next time. Thanks a lot :)
My pieces take 22~ hours total, and I work in them for 15 days each. But I don’t have an established drawing method so there are moments where I’m wondering around aimlessly, especially when it comes to finishing the artwork.
I can relate. The final steps in every illustration take the longest for me and I don't know when to call it a day. But forcing to draw straight in one day isn't my usual process neither. I don't even know if it's good. So stretching it a bit more is probably better :)
Oh absolutely! Breaks are really important to ease your head and body. It's also good to step back from the piece to get a more objective opinion about the progress so far :) I usually draw 1h and then I take a break :)
great art, but i beg you to consider posting a version with white/light BG, it looked way more powerful before going black, now the pic is a bit confusing (since the eye doesn't see the face instantly, and the black tights sunk in black bg)
Thanks for letting me know. I always struggle with backgrounds honestly. Some colours benefit from darker and some from lighter backgrounds. So I guess this will be on my list to improve on.
Hi, I would like to ask for advice on coming up with an artwork, I'm someone who constantly feels like that can't come up with any pose, I'm up for drawing any character, or anything, but I just struggle so hard on an actual pose, I've even tried copying poses offline but I just only see them as studies, I can't imagine them as characters from things I like such as Genshin or ZZZ, could you please help out with some ideas on fixing this?
I finally got the time off school to watch kuroshiro-sensei's vid🥹🙏 Question!! ✋ In that layer (with outline border effect) how did you change the inner color without affecting the outline? Also thank you for the videos as always ❤️❤️❤️
Aww thanks! Since the feature works independently from the full colour I can adjust the colours of both, outline and flat colour, separately. Its basically a normal layer but with this contour line added. I hope this makes sense :)
Hm actually yes when you have a clean lineart but my lineart is just a cleaner sketch so it would mean making a lot of corrections when I would have used the bucket tool. I hope this makes sense 🙇♂️🙇♂️
I find your process really helpful and inspiring, I'm watching ur vids when I feel like I can't draw anything lol But I have a question, my problem is that always the colors I use don't match, but when I try adjusting it it's still bothers me and something stands out in a way I don't like. Looking at different drawings I see that my problem may be in using complementary colors, when I try using them I don't know what to actually focus on. Like I want to draw Arlecchino too for example, but in red and blue environment. I really don't know how to apply it the way I want to
Thank you! What me helps is to pick the original colours from my references. Then I add the environment colour with a semi opaque brush. So they automatically mix with each other. I do the same for the background so that it gets warmer as well. This way both colours get closer to each other. I hope this helps a bit. Maybe I can make another video on that :) wishing you all the best 😌
It's sad that I skipped it here. I wanted to try multiply layers so badly and thought it wouldn't work with the rough colour layers. But you're right. They would be perfect here. Don't worry I'll do this again next time for sure since I enjoy this step the most and it's actually helpful :)
@@kurohshiro thanks for the reply and the information. I have been using Photoshop 2023 version for a while and did not see the tool so it take me by surprise!
The thing I struggle a lot is Detailing I just don’t how/what/where to place details in my illustration does anyone know any artist who talks more about this?
So you don't know where to place them and how much? I would say focus on the parts of your illustration where you want people to look at for a longer time. Like the focal point. I sadly don't know any artist talking about it. I am wishing you the best of success! Maybe I can make a video about it when I am in the position to do so 🙇♂️
If you want to be faster just skip the sketch, lineart, coloring and rendering. If you want you can also leave out the background. It should dramatically decrease your drawing time, try it
learn more about perspective + lighting + focal points i've looked at some of your other artworks and they all share similar problems, compare yourself to some really good artists when it comes to the things i mentioned before, then look at your work, i'm sure you'll figure it out, you can also learn about these things from someone who isn't an artist, just because they're good it won't mean they can explain things well anyways so just watch a lot of videos on it or read about it if that's what you prefer. i promise you that you'll see pretty huge improvements if you grind towards mastering those things, you seem to have everything else at a really good level. only reason i'm not picking out everything in a long detailed explanation is because there's no guarantee you'd even read it, so instead i'll just leave you with the general things you need to work on
I read almost every comment :) thanks for your critique on my art. I know that I struggle with few things. I am always trying to improve myself when I make new art so the progress takes some time and I hope to not get stuck by creating content but don't improve because improvement takes more time than doing the things I used to do. Even if this means repeating bad habits. I appreciate your indepth comment though.
Ahh no 9h would be insane tbh. Yes 1 to 3. Sometimes 5. It really depends. But stretching the process over such a long time makes me not to finish my art. So forcing it in one day helped in that regard.
AHHHHH IM SO SORRY FOR BEING LATEE I DIDNT GET A NOTIFICATION 😢but here’s your reminder! Make sure you take care of yourself, you are as bright as a star, as brilliant as a fox, as beautiful as a dove, please make sure to eat, sleep and don’t let others bring you down, just keep your head held up high ❤ QEUSTIONS!! 1: what’s you favorite food?
Thank you! Yeah somehow YT didn't seem to be kind with notifications lately haha I appreciate your message! I'm doing okay. I also watch documentaries while drawing and listen to music while editing the videos ^^ how about you? How're you doing? :)
I agree. Actually I just had luck here and it was also helpful not to have to draw a face. I guess drawing fast makes only sense when you understand the basics to only draw the necessary things 🙇♂️
@@kurohshiro btw is there any tips you recommend for practice? i watched most of your full process drawing but when it's come to real work it's rlly hard
woah thats really fast! for me its usually took 3-7 days from sketch to finish, but the sketch always took the longest because i always look back and forth, and i have problem, i dont know why i keep caring about miniscule detail and made it longer even when i think about its not that important. ( ;∀;)
Hmm actually the sketch is very important in my opinion since it's the Base and when the Base is solid the rest will be working as well I think :) but your 3 to 7 days is actually quite fast as well! I am currently drawing on a new piece and the sketch is already a thing of 7 days :/
@@kurohshiro agreed! solid base is really important. what i think is better changed was my habits worrying about little detail that might been not seen on end result, but taking all the time i have to be worked on- ahem, sorry for babbling. but for your quality of works its really understandable to be taking longer! thats what i thought (*・ω・)b♪ not only the artwork, but the video is godlike and always lots of help! so really much appreciate.
