A video montage to one of the most significant song in history of hip-hop. Dont know why it never past the barrier even with commercial help but it's still a classic and it was an honor to do it.
Every single one of them came strong on this song. Every one of them. One of the best songs ever produced. It's like every verse thrown on here is solid gold.
i ust to listen to this song everyday back in like 04-05 for more than a year straight with a cd player DAMN!!! 1 of the best 4 bars ever, "and dont let anybody with the power to sign/ ever tell u aint got the power to ryhme/ They use to tell me toughin up put some bass in ur voice/ they use to tell me lightin up put some mase in ur voice!"
Another remix that surpasses the original classic is Kanye West Jesus walks, if you can find the one with Common and Mase on it. It was on the College Dropout DVD anthology release back in the day. There’s a couple dope instrumentals on that anthology too if you can find it
This is the best remix of this song, whole thing fire. There is another version, where Talib Kweli has a verse that goes something like “… Through the must and the dust and the crack of the dawn, like Timothy McVeigh they say I acted alone, I got a whole crew that’ll put a gat to your dome, to get by” 🔥🔥🔥
Kanye at his highest - production and rhyming, I really miss this Kanye. Mos Def lead off set the tone, Jay was ok, Kweli’s verse is basically his verse from the original which is a banger on its own, and Busta cleans up so well! “Hey yo ma! I gotta talk to you ma!”
Just to get by… I sold coke, I pushed la Carried the 45 Claimed I was “Ready To Die” Promised never to cry Held it all inside Reality was too much so I… Kept my mind fried
Forreal my g. Imagine making something as impactful, and as sonically beautiful. I really under played the importance of this record and this is definitely top 5 remixes all time for me
"When I was stressed I possessed a side of my strength That made me angry and bleed With the frustration havin' me smokin' Newports and weed! Those be the times when I try to rely On my niggas and street mothafuckas And reach out to wifey, and then I place a call on my mother" - Busta 🔥 🔥 🔥
Mos def killed it early Talib burried it and has been rapping bout nina since before Kanye had a career. Jay -Z warmed it up for Kanye and then Busta took a crap on the track after all that. He was spitting into thin air, the track was long dead by the time it was his turn.
Lmao his whole verse is about how he has barely been able to get by in the music industry struggling to be taken seriously as a rapper pre-Dropout. Makes perfect sense to me
