Just turned 2nd Year apprentice here, out of local 613 in ATL! Absolutely love the videos and how detailed they really are. I learn so much on how being friendly, calm, and having a connection with the customer goes a long way! Keep up the great work! Hope to learn a lot more from your videos and can't wait to ramp up on some more side work as I learn code and from OTJ experience!
In Chicago and under the Chicago Electrical Code (which supersedes the NEC) residential properties can only have one electric meter. I wrote to the city to get this changed because it is much easier to run a overhead service and meter to a detached garage due to many times there is a cement patio and other obstructions between the house and garage.
Some states are charging higher registration fees for EVs. They use the roads but do not pay any fees (gas tax),so they may elect to charge more in registration fees.
Yes, WA 75$ to register your hybrid. I don't know how much for a full EV. Rambles about taxing miles driven instead. Is that a different rate for city streets, county roads, for state highways, and do I get to deduct the miles from Interstate travel. What about miles out of state?
Your videos and channel alone makes me want to create my own electrical RU-vid channel. I am a licensed E1 electrician in Connecticut. You perform excellent work my friend
I add NOALOX to the threads of all my lugs. They are prone to corrosion and the anti-seize helps make those lugs work flawlessly for the life of the can.
77 and I use power tools whenever possible! You do need to be careful to not overtorque some connections when using a power drill driver or impact wrench.
One last thing please enjoy the 2008 code while it lasts, If you did that job in my jurisdiction you be mounting the emergency disconnects outside you be adding the extra ground rod.
Not my jurisdiction, The car charger service is a new installation thus must comply with 2020 230.85, Also since the meter was changed on the existing service ( a part of the service equipment) the emergency disconnect must be added. In my jurisdiction.
Same here, in Dayton OH. Emergency disconnect needed. Having super hard time locating multi meter bases. Need a trio with disconnects BAD if anyone knows where I can find one! Willing to travel! 😅
When you add a second panel like you did on this job, what is the requirement for grounds? Can you tap off the other panel or do you have to run a separate ground wire and a separate ground rod? What about a water bond?
9:38 World travel opens your mind. I joined the US Navy out of HS and had been halfway around the world and back in one year while my two best friends were still in CC. Back home on leave hanging out the conversations were - well - their minds, their thinking process, were still in the valley while mine had been opened up by 4 different cultures. If Americans would just leave the state they live in we could all be open to other views of what life can be.
Great show and excellent tutorials. Im not an electrician, but Im learning from guys like you for when i become an owner builder so i know what my electrician is doing. But correct me if im wrong but at minute 53:00 you mentioned that you never had a surge suppressor failed. But, isn't that their main purpose? To "fail" when a lightning strike causing it to trip the main breaker and protect the property? The FAULT state doesn't mean it faulty but that an open-circuit fault has occurred.
I'm 34 but it depends on what I'm doing screwing wires on the receptacle handtools, the outlet into the box drill and I don't go all the way down at full speed. Pick the best tool for the job.
He also incorrectly installed the GEC to the new panel, It should be split bolted or you can tap a irreversible crimp. It should also be installed outside of the service panel. Reason being if one of those panels was removed you're going to lose your GEC connection.
1/4 x7/16 tnuts will give you a solid mounting point if the wall is open. Drill a 5/16ths hole tap tnut in on inside of wall get appropriate 1/4 20 bolt(use spacers as necessary. It isn't going anywhere
What stops a homeowner moving higher amperage device over to the EV box? Is the utility giving saving 24 hours a day or are they doing time of use for EV? Seams like a lot of hassle for the HO to get the savings, ad not sure why it is required.
Joel, I know you forgot the lock nut for the riser into the meter, so you take it apart put the lock nut on, but you forgot the plastic bushing which is required for the conductor size
LOL he actually talk about bushings are code and he still forgot it. His mind is very fast-paced and sometimes that's not good because they need to take a breath every once in awhile and just reassess the situation. My old boss we used to call him the squirrel because he would never be able to just concentrate on one thing and he was all over the place and his work was terrible
Luckily, most of my charging takes place at work. In 6,000 miles, I have spent $67 for electricity. And some of that was optional. Oh, and I added some washer fluid.
Joel, did you remark the white #6 wire? It still was not done at 1:04:00 ish. You talked about it and then got distracted. Details Great video. Thanks for sharing, Russ, 28 years in the Trade.
Why did you put the surge protector inside the panel so you cannot see the lights? I know it has an audible warning, but it's nice to see the two green LEDs telling me I am protected. If someone accidentally turns off the breaker to the SPD, you would not know it has been disconnected.
Because the coax for dishes/antennas is so inexpensive, one might elect to abandon an old cable and replace it with a new one, so there would be no need to worry about damage to the old one. It’s not true that it is a good idea to remove the ground rod and give it a good polishing before driving it back in.
So when the main disconnect is indoors and that panel combines the ground and neutral why is the ground and neutral also combined outside? I thought it should only be in one place.
regarding the hand vs power tools. i'm leaning towards power tools now that i'm getting close to 50. using screwdrivers my whole life is tearing up my hands and wrists. so i encourage the power screwdrivers and such to the young guys to save them later on
Joel, obviously you don't know what Arlington PVC meter mounts are ! You could have saved yourself a lot of heartache on that job, look them up Arlington mm18 or mm23
Hey Joe I've been watching your videos lately because I bought the autel maxi charger and just hardwired it to thr garage 40 amp sub panel. I have it set to 32 amps and I'm getting 7.2kw from it which is decent enough but I want to upgrade. The only other circuit on the panel is a 20 amp circuit for a garage door opener and lights. I was curious if it's safe or possible to swap the 40 amp breakers in the main 200 amp panel and garage sub panel with 50 amp breakers so I can. Get 40 amps max on the autel. Is that safe to do?
0:35 The photovoltaic cell pictured on the siding, shuts the entire system off at night so the electrician can get lots of call backs and make overtime.
Joel you mentioned SBC and AT&T in video. Infact you are saying AT&T bought SBC. Which isn't true. SBC bought AT&T. And because the name AT&T morn known and popular. SBC decided to change their name to AT&T. how know this I do is my dad works for the company for 32 years. He's retired now. But he knows a lot on the subject.
They get a better rate because they are using more continuous electricity then otherwise without an ev car. That’s why facilities that use continuous predicable amount of electricity get better rates too.
The amount of our taxes that subsidize the oil industry are staggering. So even if what you said was the case(it's not that simple), oil is a tax on every American.
I would like your content to be more instructional in nature. For example, dedicating 5 minutes of the video chatting with the customer about his life does nothing to further knowledge.
Thanks for the feedback, @kennethvargas5953! We value the relationship with customers and feel it adds story-value to each video, but we also make sure to label our chapter marks specifically for each video so that folks like yourself can seamlessly skip. In full transparency, that is the solution we plan to stick with unless we hear significantly more "No small-talk" feedback.
I just couldn't watch this video... too much irrelevant talking, I don't have time to hear about some dude's marriage or how everyone is doing/feeling. gotta go, WAY too busy for this
we understand that you have the interest of being watched on RU-vid! but RU-vid'mean people are leaving millions of Americans unemployed! making it as easy as possible for you! putting your hands into the electrical work of all this is not a good thing. who wants to learn electricity, hydraulics, to go to school to learn, to pour his brain in the classroom so that even 1 teacher is not unemployed, but also 1 book is sold, I don't learn from RU-vid from any type of person, good or bad, it's a sin for the future of humanity...!!!
