Regardless of how the car derailed, the fact that it took 22 seconds to shut it off was the car washes fault. They make sensors for that and they did not install that. Thus making a case. Glad they covered it.
I used to work at a car wash as a kid. Trucks with off-road tires frequently jump the track because the lugs on the side of the tire will climb the side of the track.
Nope, just one bee sting, soap in my eye, nasty trip over the bucket, one accidental interior wash when the passengers side window was left down, a water fight I Iost, and a very discerning glare from my wife when i tried to re-enact a car wash from 25 years ago in my speedos and flip flops.
I managed a garage that had an automatic car wash attached, the owner of the shop was super cheap and always expected me to do the repairs and on some days he had me managing the guys running the car wash which was not what I signed up for. I've seen it all and in most cases when a customer had an issue unfortunately they were just trying to scam us, we had 30 or so cameras that would literally scan every side of the vehicle at all points in the car wash, old people especially would jump the track all the time hitting their brakes trying to get extra drying time at the end and we consistently had to turn away trucks with large tires because the track would squeeze them and then the roller would pop under the tire, but we ALWAYS had someone on the ready to hit the stop button, someone on each end that could hit either button and we always gave two car lengths between vehicles. No one could imagine just how ANGRY customers get when you refuse to wash their car because they have a huge aftermarket off road tube bumpers, roof top cargo boxes or ladder racks or off road lights that will literally get wrapped up in the rollers and ripped clean off. Many times we've had to have customers arrested or removed for tresspassing because they refused to leave and were blocking the car wash until we would let them through. I'd imagine the main reason they'd get so upset was because we were the only automatic car wash in a 2 hour radius in our small town but still. Quick Quack is probably one of the best car wash companies around and it's surprising they didn't have someone on both ends.
It’s the big off-road tires that snag the rails. Most older car washes haven’t upgraded the system since the 70’s, maybe the facade not the the mechanical.
Quick Quack isn't that old. They've been around since 2004. But having aftermarket crap on your vehicle, including tires wider than the channels causes issues.
That's totally the case. I just ran my car through a wash today and the first thing I noticed was the paragraph long warning sign that they are not responsible for damage due to aftermarket modifications/additions to your vehicle.
@@chrismyers2490 I don’t see brake lights on the Jeep. I see the side marker and tail lights. Keep in mind that this is inside the tunnel, where it is a bit darker. The exposure on the camera is going to be turned up a little in order to pick up details, which will make the lights look a little brighter than usual. If you look at the side marker light that’s facing the camera (which is not a brake light), it looks brighter than the tail light facing away from the camera (in the same shot). If her brake lights were on, the rear light would be much brighter, and you would see it lighting up the area around it within the tunnel.
I left quick quack wash in orem because they insist on putting the cars much too close. I have had two hits in their washes where the people in front turned their steering wheel and jumped the curb.

Actually if the tires are to big or anything over an all-season tire they are more likely to jump over the track rail, that will force the wheel to turn as the roller goes under the tire an momentum will carry it the rest of the way off the rail. Having the speed of the track to fast will also magnify the situation and start to cause even standard vehicles to jump the rollers at the least, over the rail at the worst.

I dont understand what's so hard about automatic car wash it tells what to do ajd there is no reason to not follow the instructions so your vehicle and others won't get damaged.
That Jeep should never have been allowed to go in, the tires are too big. You can see that it 'jumped' the track right at the entrance probably because the vehicle wasn't exactly straight going in. After a few feet instead of aligning properly on it's own, the larger tires just went over the rails. I have a smaller car and when it's not aligned properly the car will just slide into position because the tires are not big enough to go over the rails. I think either way it is the car wash owners fault and they should prohibit vehicles with larger tires from entering.
The last 3 times my car went through a wash my steering wheel starts moving and I know if I or someone hits they will always shift the blame away from them. No one in their right mind starts turning the wheel or step on the brakes.
Those machines that pull your car always fail and they damage the rims with low profile tires. The ones that move over your stationary car are much safer.
Looks like she had some wide tires on that Jeep. I wonder if they got caught on the track guides and rode up or something. You can also see the brake slights look like they are on? No one used their horn or it wasn't heard????
Crappy lawyers. A case of bailment for hire as the car wash had complete control and custody of the car while in the wash. The car wash had an extraordinary duty of care.
Happened to me same thing the truck in front of me stop going forward,and I was between another truck behind me ,but luckily my SUV was the same height as the bumper and since we were in neutral in wheels turning, anyway after about 10 seconds they turned in off. I didn't get any damage but Quick quack took my number and said it I was making a claim they pay for it.
Reminds me that I should never be lazy. Kind of like those who get mad at fast food workers and barista's. You can always cook for yourself and make your own coffee. 😜
Always use non contact car wash (like at the gas station), or manual car wash.... Using this kind of contact based car wash is just plain laziness and asking for this kind of trouble.
I hate these car washes. They waste so much of our resources in a desert. They are taking over more area in our valley and from this story are just predatory and ignore all liability. The jobs they provide are low paying at best.
FIRST OFF it is not the Jeep drivers fault, The car wash should not have let that Jeep with those tires on to the track. There should have only been one roller per vehicle, behind the front wheel only. I worked at a car wash in the 1980's we NEVER would have let a vehicle with that style of tires through unless they signed a waiver, and we would not send the next through until it was off the track.
That Jeep lady is definitely at fault. That is a ONE track and pulls all vehicles simultaneously. This exact same thing happened to me. The car wash co did them both a favor probably cause of the story going on social media.
@@StolenJoker84 I have taken Jeeps through auto car washes thousands of times and have never had a problem. As long as you don't break or turn the wheels I can't see how it just jumps off track. Maybe an earthquake or an explosion nearby, but otherwise I call stupid move by the Jeep driver.
@@StolenJoker84 Not because I have never had a problem but because the only way other than the entire belt breaking on one side to jump off track is to break or steer the Jeep. Mods to The Jeep could have caused it, maybe? If so STILL THE JEEPS FAULT,. Bottom line is, the Jeep is the only vehicle that stopped on an automated line.
@@DraggonCanoe Yes, the Jeep was the only vehicle stopped, but we have no idea why it jumped the barrier. They didn’t touch the brakes, the driver says that she didn’t touch the wheel either. Sure, she could have been lying, but we ultimately don’t know. What we do know is that the employees at the carwash were not paying enough attention to the equipment to stop the machine before the car behind the Jeep hit it several times. Packing the cars in tightly AND not paying attention to stop the line in an emergency situation puts at least some of the blame on the carwash for incompetence.
It is always the business responsibility for any damages. Not unless the customer did it on purpose. Then there the insurance that the business has. It defeats the purpose of having insurance if the business denys the claims all of the time.
Carwashes purposely try to sandwich cars too close thru their wash to save electricity. ... It's their liability if they don't allow sufficient buffer room. There are car wash "best practices"! ... How much PR repair will it cost them for being unhelpful? Hmm.
The buffer room between cars is definitely on the vehicle operator. You are in control of how fast you decide to enter 😂 not the other way around. Who's foot is on the gas peddle l? 😂
@@joegrizzly1341You’ve never been to a tunnel wash, have you? There’s always an operator telling you to pull in, and they push a button to engage the rollers to pop up. You have little to no control over the distance between you and the car in front of you in a carwash.
