I've got a couple of these. One of the uses is as a cape, if you look there are loops to hold onto while wrapping it around yourself. The snaps close the front while it's worn.
Good side by side. I don't know what they were thinking with those buttons. I'm short on a sleep system these days, but way back I used a north face 15 degree sleeping bag, Synthetic fill, and water resistant. It performed well in the Italian alps. Thanks for the info.
You snap the buttons together and use it as a cape/poncho. Ideal for an extra layer while sitting about in camp of an evening. That's what they're for. I've got a couple of these blankets, very handy to have. I actually pack one in my hand luggage when I'm flying. I also use them as an extra layer when hammock camping, and as an emergency layer when I'm out for the day.
I’ve always used the Snugpak Sleeper Light, and Sleeper Extreme, sleeping bags in the bush. But I never zip them up. It’s like a quilt with a foot-box. Recently, I’ve started using a wool blanket instead. These look like they would pair up well with a wool blanket. 👍🏼👍🏼
One item that always gets packed is my poncho liner I purchased while on active duty in west Germany in the 80s. I'll alternate between the swagman roll or a wool blanket for added insulation.
Nice review, haven't seen these before. I have the Snugpak XL jungle blanket and have slept in the mid 40's in my hammock with it, was fine as long as could stay wrapped up, but without using something for an under quilt I wouldn't recommend it any lower.
Huh, I've seen them. There's no temperature rating on them. On the site at least, that's why I never got one. I've been looking for something like that. That goes down to 20 degrees or lower, but a small pack that size when stuffed up.
Sounds like it might be a bit warmer than my Snugpak Jungle blanket. I've used that and my Swagman roll comfortably down to 30, could probably go a bit lower, but it doesn't do it for me by itself above about 40.
I have to admit to being dubious about the swagman roll but took the plunge and got one about two years back after the Corp reviewed it. Never looked back, use it camping, in my van, at home……..sat in it right now!
