Hi John, it would be nice to see the horses when they're off duty. They spend time in the countryside and even at the beach. My parents bungalow backed onto the fields where they spend R&R in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. That field is known as St. Mary's (or was back in the 90s). We would feed them treats, we had permission from the Quartermaster to give them carrots. The drum horses are fab. Miss seeing them.

Taking away the voice of these guards, is taking away any authority they have, and laying out the welcome mat for groups of disrespectful, entitled, and rude people! Yes!!! Bye, bye!! Well done officer! All it takes is one person to ruin it for a group. Problem is, it's typically a group of bullies that gather around the guards in the back, and then all of a sudden they feel so tough and superior, as they try to goad the guard.

Those signs are meant for people watching the videos. The tourists do not read the signs. Why must they touch the horse when taking a picture? Why can’t they wait for their turn, you have 3 or 4 people standing next to the horse, do you really want strangers in your photo? Do they know what the two finger V stands for, as they look like idiots doing it. Just take your picture and move on.

@@nalasimba Have to agree with you it was in the Seventies that a report came out that parents were abusing their children. Especially in New Zealand where I come from. @nalasimba
@nalasimba 8 месяцев назад
@Swanoaks New Zealand? GB here : we had TV shows on how to raise children. It was the parents who were abused! Kids spitting, kicking, punching, throwing bricks at their parents (?) Their hands were "tied." The brats were in charge, and even had a special phone number to report their parents! No discipline whatsoever. The people next door to me had a "no holds barred" screamer. When I gently complained, I was told it was my problem and that I should MOVE! Plus, that was said in front of said brat! 😪💣
@Swanoaks
@Swanoaks 8 месяцев назад
@@nalasimba You definitely had it worse than we did in NZ. I had grown up with a firm Dad who demanded respect, he was English born. It never affected me: Although I never hit my son. Looked him in the eye as I spoke and he soon backed down. Still do today I am in my eighties and he is fifty and I still get the same result. But I also think adults need to stay calm, talk and listen more. It's all about communication now. I can remember standing in line waiting to be served in the local dairy. There was two young teen Maori lasses behind me, I turned around at something they said to be spat on as I did so. I stepped out of the line and with a wave of my hand let them take my place in the line. Maybe you think I gave in to them. But no I understood why they did it. The Maori were suppressed for many generations in NZ, not allowed to speak their own language. At that time there was a wave for Maori to take back what had been taken from them. As a country the treaty signed by Queen Victoria had been ignored, but was now becoming a reality, and may of us white Kiwis were all for that happening. Slightly different to what started our conversation. As I said life is about communication, education, and respect no matter how old you are.
@nalasimba

@Swanoaks I come from a Polish (pre-war maners) family and were stunned at the difference in English v Polish manners. Children were respectful to their elders - we stood up when an adult (guest) entered the room. Certainly never used first names unless insisted by said person, and certainly never answered back. The last "adult" to leave this mortal coil was my mother at 98, and at 72, I was still respectful. To this day, I talk and behave appropriately. The way I would expect others to behave toward me. Sort of "teaching" by example. Also, I really don't care if people think I am old-fashioned - good manners and behaviour should be at the top of everyone's list! 🙂

“Gobshite”. I haven’t heard that term for a while but you’re spot on. It’s a long time now since I was at Horse Guards but I can’t recall tourists being allowed to crowd and maul the horses back then. I’ve reached an age where I’m hardly likely to get to visit again which is why I enjoy these videos so much - even if it has my blood pressure reaching explosive levels sometimes. Someone has decided that tourists can pester the horses now but, fortunately, have left the ultimate decision as to who they’ll allow and who they won’t to the horse. Watching Ormonde and his “oh no you don’t” way of dealing with intrusive “gobshites” makes my day.

This is for learning, it’s easier to remember things about history, geography and culture if you visit and see. I went to various trips, not overly expensive ones usually like railway to understand map signs for embankments, rails etc, castles and historic buildings. Did go to France to the graves of war etc, there is many ways of learning g, wouldn’t say it was being spoilt, in my family it was saved for one school trip abroad as we didn’t have money, so I didn’t do all the trips

Too many tourists are disrespectful and don’t listen when asked nicely nor do they read the signs. Yelling forcefully is totally merited and should not be changed. Entitled people want to do what they want without being accountable. Tourists do not understand personal space for the guards or horses, very annoying.

The problem with kids today is they are always playing video games and no clue how to act in public. Parents use those games as babysitters and don't bother to teach them how to be act or be polite and respectful to others. Gathered around the guard like ants on a piece of sugar. No idea about the world around them. SMH

Years ago my husband and I were on a business trip with other colleagues (U.K.)to Tel Aviv, Israel. We obviously did all the touristy things but being catholic I really wanted to to to the (catholic) church of the Nativity. We were going up some steps by the church door which was guarded by an armed Israeli guard who shoved an armalite into my arm and shouted at the top of his voice ‘cover your head woman’. I was totally shocked and said we don’t have to cover our heads any more. He stood up and pointed his gun so close to my chest I almost collapsed. My husband unfolded his hankie and put it on my head. There was no argument. I wonder, when I see these hordes or aimless morons, how they would feel if our Kings Guards reacted the same way. That is why those thoughtless tourists who think this is a theme park for their amusement SHOULD be treated

As an American and relocated to Philadelphia (as a horse trainer), I am horrified at how many people rudely stick their hands in front of an animal that can easily bite their fingers OFF, and quicker than any dog ! We always raised our son to ASK before touching anyone's pet. Why do even the grown insist on touching a service animal, that isn't a pet, setting low standards for the children watching? Being an Officer's Mount and transportation, by the same rule any police officer in the States can write you a citation for messing with their car, and if you were to go up and grab the steering wheel (which is what reins are - control of the horse)... you would be arrested and charged! I hope our American tourists REMEMBER this! King Charles' Guards are active duty military, and should be treated as such. We have at least 3 national holidays here remembering our military. Many of us thank our service men and women when we see them in uniform; we thank them for their duty and sacrifice. It should be no different in any other country. Finally, it would be wise to understand and remember that yours and your children's fingers look like snacks to horses. The way their eye lens is so largely concave, objects are distorted and can cause the animal to respond differently. There are so many sounds, smells, and sights bombarding these majestic creatures that the Guard in control should earn respect in addition to his or her duty! You cannot stop a 17 hand, 1,500 to 2,000 pound horse so move your body and your gosh darn carriages holding your kids OUT OF THE WAY!! Cross the path with urgency and purpose! And lastly, just think how you would feel if anywhere from 500 to 5,000 people a DAY came and shoved their fingers right into your nose? Respect your "right" as a tourist - you have no rights as you know them when in a foreign country! You function on their rules, laws, and obediences. Get a pamphlet or Google how to behave properly in that country. And don't think you are SO entitled to your picture with the King's Guard and his mount. He is serving the King, not you. Ask politely to touch his animal, and wouldn't it be so much nicer if we could all ask to take their picture?

I'm sorry, but that's complete c***The guards should be able to shout because I've noticed that when they just pull the rain's away. They have to do that 2 times or 3 times and then finally shout before the person gets it. And I think more people push the boundaries now because they're not getting shouted at. I feel so bad for those military men and women and the military horses because. They're getting so much disrespect from some idiots period God bless them all, god, keep them safe.🇨🇦👋🙏🙏❤️

I've been watching a few of your videos now, and as a horse person myself, something has struck me as particularly interesting with these horses: with kids who aren't very confident, they seem to be more gentle and curious about the child, of their own volition.Just goes to show how tuned in horses are to people. I do think you're right about the size of the horses being a deterrent. I noticed with my 17.3hh Thoroughbred that people were much more apt to stand back and give space (which was a very good thing, as he was very hot being fresh off the track, and still new to being a pet horse as opposed to a working racehorse). I will say I doubt the horsie people used to dealing with horses that large would be all that intimidated, but then, they also will know how to approach the horses with a lot more resepect than the average non-horse person.

Security risks for the guards and horses. The tourists being able to do what they please and the guards can do nothing. I wonder how the morale is for the guards.
