Hi Jeff, I love your lessons and the way you teach them. I've noticed that you play what sounds to me like the "Something's missing" groove by Steve Jordan. I'm keen to learn it but I'm not clear on how it's component parts fit together. Would you be able to post a lesson on this groove and how to build it...or if if it's one you've already covered could you post the link please? Many thanks & keep up the great work!

Glad you slowed these down because unless the camera shoots at a higher frame rate (60 FPS or better), the stick motion gets lost. Not until you slowed it down did i noticed the high hat strokes being played. Online drummers in general shoot at too slow frame rates for stick work to be clearly observed in many cases (notice the strobe light effect when this happens-the sticks appear to be stuttered in motion). Thanks for this video - great grooves - nice work and thanks for including the notation!

Nice. Tip. If you play the written stuff down with Sibelius or finale, and screen record that, you have an easy way of follow along mark in the sheet music. Really love your stuff. 😎💪🏻🤘🏻

Honestly for me it just came with muscle memory after some time, hard to explain. I still mis rimshots but usually hit 90% now. What I can say is prep stroke is very important. You have to have an even upstroke and no hesitation. When you come down for the rim shot have to keep the hands relaxed and not try to dig the bead of the stick into the drum.

This is one of your BEST lessons! Learning a new fill is fun for drummers, but you will never be hired for your fills. Being able to groove is what gets you hired.

Love the grooves and that fat Alex Van Halen-ish snare sound you are getting! I notice the black dot head on the snare - did you try to emulate his sound or is it just coincidence? What is the snare you use?

Thanks! Just a coincidence. I love that warmer “wide-open” sound. It’s a 14x6.5 Sakae Brass snare.

that is a real interesting comparison because this two snare drums are sooooooo far away from size and shell like Bombay from Capetown....... In this video I see a 8" deep wood snare with a very thick shell i guess, tuned medium low, and on Robbie Robertsons song Manu Katche uses a 5" deep brass snare with a thin shell, tuned very high and played without wires......... I can hear indeed a certain similarity in characteristics and texture......interesting.....!!

They’re hitting the snare head as well. Wouldn’t sound very good if they didn’t. Maybe it’s the angle or something that’s making it hard to see.

man i hope this guy is getting paid.. i sent him 10 bucks i still like i feel i ripped him off..quick overview im 59 the pan changed my life everyone is gone, so i said fuck it im going to play the drums..if you could have seen where i started 6 months ago just a slam banging white noise maker..to kind of ok.. mind you i did my home work but without this dude i think i would have gave up so thanks jeff
