Small space? Challenge accepted! Also breakfast tasted so good and i had a great day :)
I should say that this is a routine if i have a slow starting day! If i have a busy day I will usually just mix some rice with spinach and soy sauce hahaha, but always have time for green tea!

Interesting. I just watched a 12 minute video about a person making breakfast--and it's not like it was a recipe video or anything--yet I thoroughly enjoyed it. You seem to have a very positive, outgoing personality that's quite soothing. Looking forward to more videos!

Hahaha i'm glad you made it through the whole video! It is an interesting concept, watching people live their lives, but while I film i think of it just like chatting to a friend while I make breakfast, so maybe it's just nice to have someone talking to you about their life while you chill? I dunno I love these kinds of videos and I'm trying to figure out why! So interesting hahaha, and thanks! You're so sweet, I look forward to making more videos :)

Looking at quiet Emma in her tiny apartment 6 years ago, to where she is now, just thriving, louder (in a good way), and in a nice big space with sun that she likes, still growing her plants, just really awesome to see the growth.

With fruits and veggies you should eat seasonally, If its in winter time of course fruits and apples are going to be expensive. Just check around with local growers or stores and see what's avaible. Also a folding lap table would be nice for putting stuff down on the ground and give you a nice mini table and when not in use, it lays against the wall without taking a lot of space up.

We also have microwave pre-cooked rice in packets here in the US. I used to buy them, and even though they were pretty cheap, after I got married and had children I felt I should economize. Now I cook a big pot at the beginning of the week, put it in a bowl in the refrigerator, and just warm up portions as needed. It works out just fine. To make you feel better, I also only have one burner on my cooktop right now!

I watched your tour last night and now see you have two pull up bars. How about laying a sheet of plywood over the two and create some more storage space?
@TheMusachioedBrony
@TheMusachioedBrony 8 лет назад
I was thinking she should ask the landlord if those can be removed, and then put some kind of very tall vertical unit that can act as a desk area and storage. I would then ditch that table and put in some deep comfy chair or small sofa. The vertical space is waaaayyyy underutilized in that apartment, and the table does absolutely nothing to help. Kirsten Dirksen did an amazing video of a writer living in a tiny apartment in New York-it is about 5 years old. This woman was also a professional organizer, and she had racks going up to the ceiling. Her bed was also in a loft. I was astounded how much she was able to fit and how organized it all was. For sure there are modular systems in Japan that would work that are not expensive. Then if/when she leaves she can sell it to someone else.

I'm always shocked by the price of fruit in japanese videos, the climate seems suited to growing many kinds, particularly in the south. Is there a reason for it costing so much? I always eat 3 portions of fruit per day but bananas, apples,pears, oranges, kiwi ect are relatively cheap here in Ireland. Only berries and melons or 'exotic' fruit (mangos) cost more.

Fun fact: most rv's have a little piece that goes over the kitchen sink while not in use for food prep/counter space very much like your little cutting board invention. not sure if i'm super right, but usually japan is fucking tiny in terms of farmland/agriculture so they buy land and workers from other countries (eg. vietnam or wherever is cheap and profitable) grow crops there, and then have to bring it back to their country so prices are slightly higher. that said, their crops are organic and outrageously healthy (apparently yummier too). i'm guessing that the amount of effort put in, or quality of products are one of the few factors which make it so pricey. source: some of fam in vietnam work for them hahaha

I think you got it right the first time; the rent on the store space is going to be high so everything they sell has to be marked up to cover it. Import costs will be a factor but not to the extent of having a $2 apple.

Fruit is expensive in Japan everywhere, not just Tokyo. But I find that other groceries, the price is comparable to or cheaper than Australia. I've asked some Japanese people and they thought lack of agricultural land, shipping costs or import costs. Fruit that's local or in season tends to be cheaper.

Try looking for a wee piece of wood (or a wooden chopping board) to go under the plastic chopping board - a little bigger or same size- then you can just take away the plastic board when youre finished and sit your bowls and such and hot things on the wood (at worst you'll discolour the wood if its reaaaaaalllly hot) so there's no more danger breakfasts on the stairs! you could get a wee stacking basket thing for the veg cupboard so you can store more of the cupboard goods in there and keep them neat and easy to access! A folding lap table would be perfect for the floor picnics in the morning too! If there's little storage baskets with the window suckers on you could arrange some things up on your door too! Its a very cute little place! I'd want to fill it with fairy lights and blankets haha!

I've bee trying to find some baskets with suckers to put throughout my house but i've only found cheap bathroom looking ones! gonna keep looking, and i've got my eye on a hanging air plant in Loft but its 1800 yen but its soooo cool, would make my house feel like a forrest :') a stacking basket is a good idea too! still so many things i can do here :)

I'm not sure but I think that might be a typical breakfast in Japan.
@coiffureclips8148

it is in fact a typical breakfast in japan to eat some sort of rice bowl usually consisting of multiple veggies and some kind of fish. tea is often drank with breakfast and miso soup as a side. very different from western/european breakfast ahaha

Norah Shagir there are few cultures where they eat rice and fish first thing in the morning. When I went to Jamaica I saw that they ate ackee and saltfish with rice for breakfast. they also eat plantains for breakfast too.

Hahaha I am such a mess of a person sometimes :') but the world would be boring if we were all perfect! And yes get keen! Japan is so cool! i see so many people comment on my house saying it is so awful and they would be depressed and claustrophobic in it, but I am so happy there are other people out there who love small spaces! #smallspaceclub

For rice is easy. Boil 2 cups of water and put 1 cup of rice (basmati, i.e.). When you do not hear the bubling of the water on the bottom of the pan, the rice is ready. Also you can use a spoon to see the bottom of the pan.

Is the tap water in Japan ok to drink? Wow! Some of the fruit is so expensive! I just found your channel yesterday, I love your videos :)

Yes it is. Water is generally safe to drink all over Japan; quite possibly the safest water to drink in Asia.

CASpyder even after the nuclear disaster?
@CASpyder
@CASpyder 7 лет назад
Yes, absolutely, as Fukashima and the north-east coast of Honshu is a small part of Japan. As in most places, the majority of drinking water originates from rain water. Water authorities are not using water from the Fukashima region for drinking water.
