I sure do like that you apply products or do the job in advance, then in the same video you show the results and follow-up work from what you actually did weeks ago

always appreciate comments like that, it's so much harder to make videos with the three week reveal but I also think it's worth it to you guys.

I used annual rye to help prevent erosion and to wait for the fine fescue to mature on my hillside. I can't imagine having to kill it though. I feel it is dying off by itself and one year I may hit it with pre-emergent to knock it back further if it keeps dropping seeds. This bermuda lawn you have is interesting.

Bluegrass is rough out here in the hi desert. As soon as it gets hot it struggles. I got sawd that was a bluegrass Bermuda mix. Should have went 1 or the other, with what I know now.

I never heard of anyone growing Rye grass in the Bay area, Bermuda would really be considered dated .
@TurfMechanic
@TurfMechanic 4 месяца назад
I'm actually down in Ventura County, CA so northwest LA but a couple hundred miles south of Bay Area. Still though, temps here are mild in the summer and warm in the winter so Bermuda isn't the natural choice around here. It's just what was already growing in the yard when we moved into the property back in winter last year. The days are short however during the winter and my front yard is north face so all the bermuda goes dormant for a long time hence the annual rye experiment this past off-season.

I'm interested on your thoughts ,or maybe a video on using Def fluid made for diesel engines as a fertilizer. It's something like 32% urea and seemingly way cheaper than other nitrogen on the market.
@TurfMechanic
@TurfMechanic 4 месяца назад
I'll consider doing a video on that along with my thoughts. I know some other big lawntubers have promoted it as a cheap option but I'm not jumping on the bandwagon just yet. IMO cheap doesn't always mean better. Just remember that straight urea granule fertilizer is 48% urea nitrogen by volume so a bag of that can go a long way and still doesn't cost a lot. This topic is on my bucket list of topics to hit though.

What's your opinion on Kurapia? Considering it for my front yard, which is currently a beach. Lol. I'm in NC.
@TurfMechanic
@TurfMechanic 4 месяца назад
I am very tempted to experiment with Kurapia on the inside of my parkway strip later this year. I've got an unfinished hill that I will need to get ground cover on later this year above a retaining wall and below our backyard fence line that Kurapia might be perfect for. I admittedly still need to learn a lot more about the stuff to have a well informed opinion of it though. Have you considered Seashore Paspalum? That's a great grass for warm season coastal regions, has high salinity tolerance and of course grows in sandy soil well.

@TurfMechanic not what I want. I'm looking for low maintenance ground cover. Probably Kurapia or Ruschia Nana. Appreciate the suggestion.

I'm guessing your in Southern California? I'm in the Inland empire in Socal and the heat we get here I'm seriously debating on going all Bermuda!
@TurfMechanic
@TurfMechanic 4 месяца назад
I'm over in Camarillo, Ventura County. It's weirdly mild here all year long. Bermuda here almost makes no sense but for you it sure does. I have family over in Rancho Cucamonga and if I lived over there Bermuda or even better Buffalo would be the most obvious choice of grass due to heat and watering challenges.
@62ccrunner
@62ccrunner 4 месяца назад
@@TurfMechanic That makes total sense Camarillo does seem like it's mild at least from what I've seen on TV. The Inland empire can turn into a skillet! I'm right on the edge of Riverside and Moreno Valley so we can get those multiple 100+ days in a row. It's damn near a desert really.
@TurfMechanic
@TurfMechanic 4 месяца назад
lol, lets put it like this, for 6 days straight our temps have been between 70-75 by day and 50-55 by night. Every day is the same other than the occasional marine layer difference. This will take a long time for me to get used to. It's pleasant for sure but monotonous. :D I don't enjoy daily 105 but at least summer feels different than spring.
@62ccrunner
@62ccrunner 4 месяца назад
@@TurfMechanic that makes total sense as opposed to here where it's winter then straight into summer basically and no fall in between!! I get you tho!

In your opinion, is it possible to replace my bluegrass lawn by overseeding it with Barenbrug RTF over multiple seasons? (Years). I'm patient (but not that patient).
@TurfMechanic
@TurfMechanic 4 месяца назад
IMO, You could eventually achieve a heavy concentration of RTF but the Bluegrass will be there mixed in without trying to kill it off before overseeding or sometime throughout the process. It's surprisingly easy to kill off the bulk of a lawn and seed in the same day. Last summer I sprayed my side lawn to kill it and seeded on the same day and today my side lawn looks great. Took just a few weeks. I recommend doing something similar if you want the rtf but I wouldn't do anything until around August if I were you. Take a look at the video here for my experience doing the conversion: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vOh0LgkEFyo.html

Can you recommend how to kill of poa? I am having issues with it with barenburg rpr I want to spray image but don't want to kill the barenburg. Also, will tenacity stop the dropped poa annua seed from germinating? Been plucking the poa but I definitely dropped poa seeds here and there. Love from the bay area
@TurfMechanic
@TurfMechanic 4 месяца назад
at some point I need to do a comprehensive poa kill video but to be brief, you could spray tenacity now and kill some of it (not all of it by a long shot though) in your RPR but the bulk of the damage has already been done now that we are up to May 10. It's about to die on it own with summer approaching next month. As for the seeds that are down your best bet is to use a normal pre-emergent in the fall, around late sept to early october. I wouldn't trust Tenacity to prevent the poa germinating in the Fall although I've never experimented with that before.

always an interesting idea but I just don't see even an experiment of that coming for me here. Those two grasses are so opposite, I just don't even want to try. I'll keep my KBG on the east side of the driveway and the bermuda on the west. LOL

to some extent it's about content production, I can't show or teach lawncare as easily if I have no problems to deal with or experience day to day. I have to balance things between the hobby I enjoy (lawn care) and the channel (my income). It's a weird dynamic.
@jasonfournier
@jasonfournier 4 месяца назад
Yeah usually you roundup the whole lawn, which kills the cool season and not the bermuda, because the bermuda is dormant. It may have been a little too late to do that though.
