In permaculture, trees are at the heart of the design. Trees are oxygen givers, and therefore the giver of life. In the immediate context of rainwater management, trees are important because the roots of the trees open up the soil and build porosity of the ground. Porous soils absorb and soak up water. So rainwater management and tree plantation really go hand in hand.
Trees are miners. They mine minerals from deep within and carry them into their foliage.
Trees also fix nitrogen. Trees help to create a micro climate. Trees give us fruit and medicine. Trees provide a habitat for other species like birds and small animals, who in turn play an important role within the ecosystem. The roots of the trees hold the soil in place, and prevent erosion in the case of heavy rain. The foliage also acts like a big umbrella softening the impact of heavy downpour and preventing it from beating down on the soil. They also give biomass like leaves, twigs, flowers and branches, which fall to the ground and decompose, increasing the organic matter in the soil.
Over time, trees come together to increase the precipitation on the land.
We have planted over 6000 trees at Aanandaa. We started with making a tree list across fruit, native, medicinal and flowering trees. Then we designed the plantation plan - what to place where. It took us 3 - 4 months to dig all the pits, and also reinforce them with cow manure and bone meal. Finally, when the monsoon arrived, we invited our family and friends to join us for a mega tree plantation festival!

Mam, if we plant small trees away from bigger trees, to enable the small trees to get enough sunlight, we may end up in leaving much open space between them. What can be the solution to this? Are there any varieties of smaller trees that can grow in the shadow of big trees.?

All plants need light for some hours in a day. You have to stack the trees. You'll learn more about it in our online courses.

Man with kind regards plant trees but water them by using plastic bottles tying them with a stick then inverting it filling with water. Open the cap of bottle slowly to make the water tricle down the root of plant saving it from harsh summer climate

Thank you very much for all your videos. You said you planted your native trees in circles. Did you plant all one species in each circle or did you mix them up a bit?

Can we use trees to Fence our property to cut down the cost?
@farmaanandaa
@farmaanandaa 3 года назад
Of course. But trees don't make a fence, since they grow tall and people +animals can simply walk through them. Try a Bougainvillea or any other bush/shrub.

I live in semi urban area and we have quiet big backyard..We have planted few trees there..But the only problem is the poor drainage system of our city..During monsoon water comes to our yard and do not drain easily..It remains upto 2days and bcz of that root of the plants like papaya start to rot..A very big problem for us..Plz give us a solution..
@farmaanandaa
@farmaanandaa 3 года назад
Why is it not draining? Because of the wall, or the slope or the compaction?
@diyadutta49
