I use a plastic sock aid. I have lifelong RHUEMATuid arthritis and it works great for me. I have very stiff ankles, knees that don't bend well, fake hips, weak hand grip, can't get to the floor. I use it on over the ankle, crew, or knee socks. To make my heal slide easier, i grease the aid with a tiny bit of body lotion. For taller socks, scrunch the excess near the bottom of the aid. Also, avoid the nylon aid with the terry outside. I got stuck. Actually ripped the handle off, cracked the vinyl on the inside, and used up a years worth of energy.

What if there is no help available? And as I stated before you are able bodied. Makes a difference. Also,patients with caretakers are a whole lot different story than those of us alone most of the time. Back pain unbelievable. Dr. Says only Tylenol. Just want to give up. Thx for your concern trying to help us.😉

That's a great question. And yes, it does make a difference when you aren't in significant pain and don't have help. I wish I had more answers to help but one thing I can say is don't give up. There are so many people in the same situation that while they aren't often seen, they still make a huge impact on others when they see your example. It makes a big difference to others and it's an encouragement to us to see you and others still press on. I'm wondering if anyone else in the comments section can speak to some possible helpful tips they have found?

Great video. Finally I learn how a stocking aid works. It is hard to put on the stocking when I can’t bend my leg at an angle to get started. It looks like you end up wearing your stocking inside out when using the stocking donner. I didn’t see you turn it inside out before starting. Am I missing something? (Confess to being a tad OCD)

You're welcome! I forgot to mention in the video that rubberized gloves can help slide up the stockings easier and also onto the stocking aid as well. I'm glad you found the video helpful. 😊

Try a long shoe horn to take the sock off. I have a very thick leg (it's why I need the compression sock) and can't use your wire device. I do use one of those rope attached extra wide devices. It is hard for me to point my foot and the rope pull device doesn't require me to point my foot.

Yes! The rope pull device, the sock aid, is so helpful. I love them as well. Likewise, I'm a big big fan of long shoe horns to take it off. Thanks for sharing the tips. 😊

I got compression stockings a couple of years ago and the ones I got had some type of thimk that they call a Juzo that ypu put over your foot and then got also gloves that help get those stockings on. It works real good but would not work if the toe was inclosed. Just have problems with the open toe stocking from creaping up from the opening toe area.
@yourPTguy
@yourPTguy 8 месяцев назад
Yep the gloves are helpful for those types of stockings. What did you find helpful to prevent the creeping up at the toe area?

Would this work for ladies tights? I would love to be able to out my own tights on instead of my husband having to do it. I can't bend down or put my shoes on. I had an operation for a broken hip but that was 19 months ago and also have Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis, and DDD. My doctor says my spine bones are extremely thin.
@yourPTguy
@yourPTguy 8 месяцев назад
Tights don't have open toes so the first technique won't work. They are also not as tight as compression socks typically. The second technique in the video would help people get the stockings/tights up to the knee which is all one would need to pull it up past the knee to the thighs. Now be careful though, the stocking aid I show in the video doesn't have handles that extend. That's why I link to the extended handle version in the video description because sometimes people can't bend over to put on socks and shoes such as after a hip replacement. A local therapist would be able to help you troubleshoot some helpful ways for your specific situation. 😊

How do you cope if you are very old and living alone ?🙄 You absolutely need some help. I tried a spécial material, but not succesful😢
@yourPTguy
@yourPTguy 8 месяцев назад
That's a great question. The stocking aid with the extended handles (not shown in the video but linked in description) helps those who can't bend over as much. Likewise, the sock aid can be used as well for stockings which helps a lot of people. With that said, sometimes it's still too difficult to get the stockings on the devices due to the material and some additional challenges like arthritis in the hands. In those instances, they do also make stockings that zip up the side with the zipper that can help too. If all those are still too difficult, some try to coordinate with a friend/family member or hire private duty to help with those getting ready tasks. While there is a cost, it may not be as much if it's just those few things and may be worth asking around. I hope those help. Keep striving. 😊
