Getting an electricity contract in Finland is easy, but there are many types of plans. You can save more than 100€/year by shopping for your contract. After this video, you can find the best deal in 10 minutes.
NOTE: Zmarta has discontinued its comparison feature. Instead, I recommend you check Nordic Green Energy. They offer pörssisähkö (spot-price) deals at a reasonable price. Their site is in Finnish but is an easy one-pager with Google Translate.

UPDATE: 2023/05 NOTE: Zmarta has discontinued its comparison feature. Instead, I think you should check Nordic Green Energy. They offer pörssisähkö (spot-price) deals at a reasonable price. Their site is in Finnish but is an easy one-pager with Google Translate. At the moment, the spot price (pörssisähkö) is the best plan as the actual prices have hone down quite a bit. I have a pörssisähkö deal as well. ✅ * Get a deal from Nordic Green Energy: aleksihimself.com/zmarta

Here are a few additional pro tips I forgot to mention in the video: - Spot price (pörssisähkö) prices are published on sahko.tk 24h in advance. You can use the charts to plan out your electricity consumption, like using sauna or washing machine - You will receive two separate bills from two companies. One from the electricity vendor and one from the transmission company. Have a look at the origins of electricity. The price of green electricity can be a little more expensive, but cheaper for nature. - Be aware of the signup bonuses in the contract. The price can rise significantly after the period. - A contract with zero fixed cost (perusmaksu) can become really affordable if you have low energy consumption.

Alex Great Explanation. Are there any Electricity provider to get service without Social Security number(SSN) and Finish Phone number ? .I am also planing to move to Finland as student , But I didn't get SSN with my RP card. Please suggest a solution.
@AleksiHimself
@AleksiHimself Год назад
A quick question: Do you already have a student apartment secured? It sounds so if you tried to use the service but I could be wrong. If you have, then I strongly recommend checking if the electricity is included in the rent because in most cases it is for student apartments. Then, you don't have do get a contract. If you don't have electricity included, then you can call one of the companies and explain that you don't have a Personal Identity Code (aka SSN) yet. They will give you one. You can try Helen or Fortum, for example. You need to go to DDV as soon as you arrive to get your Personal Identity Code. You can't really do much in Finland without it. When you get your PIC, you can come back to this service and get a better contract if necessary.

Good stuff as always Aleksi! Thank you! Though I really wish this video was out two months earlier when I moved to a private apartment from student housing! It was quite difficult to find the right and reliable information for electricity contracts. I hope this video helps out other people (Just do what the Finntastic says) :P Thanks again! 💯

Hi Alexi, looks like stock electricity is good option currently compared to Fixed and open ended contracts. what do you say?
@AleksiHimself
@AleksiHimself Год назад
The stock price has gone down because people have reduced the use of electricity and the increase of wind power. Probably taking a stock price deal for now is good and then keeping an eye how the prices and deals develop.

@AleksiHimself
@AleksiHimself Год назад
Yes. It's been super windy and the wind power facilities have produced record-breaking amounts of power which has sharply lowered the prices-

How many people in Finland go off the Grid? Solar, wind, etc. If you get 24 hour sunlight in summer imagine what you could do with all that energy.

I think some use them as a supplementary method but probably it's not enough on its own. Not sure tho.

UPDATE: as of September 2022, the current situation is challenging. The prices have gone up drastically due to the Ukraine crisis. No cheap contract types are available, and all of them have risks. The upcoming winter is said to be super expensive for electricity. I personally have opted for pörssisähkö and follow the situation.

@@rdom3208 I believe in this case contract means a fixed-term contract so you can't switch vendors during that time.

I have recently moved to Tampere for Post Doctoral study. Can you suggest me suitable electric contract for my new apartment. SATO have tie up with fortum so is it good to move with the same ? Basic fees 4.5 euro per month and 31.28 c/kWh. Thanks for your help in advance. Also suggest suitable company for the same. Pin code 33720 and apartment area is 30 m2.

During these times, it's difficult to find cheap plans because the prices have increased quite a bit. You need to do the comparison yourself and pick the best one. Use the tips mentioned in the video. Welcome to Tampere! I used to study in Hervanta, too.

@@dobrovolny2 Here in Atlanta, Georgia there are only fluctuating plans and I am averaging around $0.25/kWh over the past 12 months. In addition, there is a monthly administrative fee of $18. Aleksi, I have an idea for your channel. You are targeting an audience who are not fluent in finnish....you have also had videos in the past where you walk and talk in a live format, you have commented that you like that because it is not hard work and you can get superchats. Here is idea.....take walk in different places and narrate your walk in simple finnish. Maybe add a little english to clarify, but point at things and pick things up and do simple talking in a live format
