Fill is one of the most useful and most underused functions of the Digitakt. I love using utiming to double use one step using the fill/overlined fill function. Great for bringing some on the fly changes to your patterns. I’m surprised you didn’t talk about this in the video. Say you have a clap that you want to switch to a snare using the fill function. You overline fill the clap place a snare right next to it (with fill param) and then using utime you move the snare into the same step. So that when you press fill it changes on the same step. Very useful. I’m sure you knew about this.
@Davemech
@Davemech 5 лет назад
Sure thing, that's a neat way of using it. I do talk about the micro timing thing in another video though but not specifically with using fill. Might be nice to do a video on abusing microtiming some time. Cheers!

This was so helpful, thank you. For some reason I never realized i could just lock that one step with the sample and all settings and then start shaping another. I was always placing the new sample and then playing the sequence and waiting until it was triggered each time to hear my changes as I went. These things are such complex organisms that theres a hundred ways to accomplish the same thing, people like you are clever at finding the most efficient way. I could maybe stop smoking so much weed when I write and I'd be a little better lol

Hi Dave, congratulations on what you do, you are really good. Would you tell me what you do the synth part of these samples with? Libraries or sounds that you create and then import? And if you do them with what do you do them? Thanks again
@Davemech
@Davemech 3 года назад
Cheers dude. The synthpart of that groove I created with Dominion 1 and further edited and mangled within DT. I create pretty much all of my sounds myself including kicks. Only some bread and butter samples like 909 hihats etc. come from libraries and an occasional synth sample. Mangled further on DT. Sometimes I record directly into dt, sometimes o have sound design sessions and create a bulk of samples :) cheers!

Loving your Digitakt vids. I don't fully understand all the LFO Dest descriptions. Some are obvious but I don't understand the difference between SAMP Start and SAMP Loop Position and some of the others, the manual doesn't explain... 😶
@Davemech
@Davemech 5 лет назад
Hi Bobby, check the manual at the section about the sample page. There you will find the explanation of what loop position does. The lfo can modulate any of the parameter page parameters so to speak, so when you read the description of the page parameters it should clear it up a bit :)

Im so confused. I dont understand how the midi tracks are acting like the sample trks/trgs in the first row. Mine have a different menu thats only for midi. I dont have the parameters yours are showing and I dont know why you were locking them. I guess I have much to learn
@Davemech
@Davemech 2 года назад
Hey! Not sure which part of the video you mean, but the midi tracks are not acting like audio tracks anywhere. The midi tracks indeed are just midi tracks and have a different parameter set. Which time in the video are you confused about? I also have a 8+ hour course for Digitakt on my website. It goes from the very basics until complex programming and touching upon sound design, groove design and mix as well 👍🏻

thanks a lot for your videos Dave! They help me a lot. I searched all the internet and could find the answer. If i use live recording mode on DIgitakt and record parameter changes for example pitch (by turning the knob) Is there a way to only delete automation changes and keep the notes?
@Davemech
@Davemech 5 лет назад
Great to hear! When in live recording mode and the sequencer is playing, you can hold no+ the data entry knob corresponding to the parameter you want to remove as lock. It will delete that parameter lock as the sequencer passes each trig. Cheers!

I heard a rumour that there is a limit to how many parameter locks you can have per pattern. have you ran into this problem with this method?
@Davemech
@Davemech 5 лет назад
Hi Steve, it's not so much a rumour as it's actually written in the manual :P 72 locks per pattern. A parameter lock counts as 1 even if it's locked by multiple trigs on a track. So when you lock the sample slot on track one with 64 trigs at different values it just takes up 1 of 72. So that's a whole lot to work with. I have yet to reach the maximum on one pattern even with these tricks.
@steffendix1895
@steffendix1895 5 лет назад
Hi Dave, learning lots from your vids and just hit subscribe;) Have you found a way/workaround to change patterns between projects? Let’s say I want to select various patterns from different projects and put them together in a new project for my live setup. Any ideas on that? Thanks again! Keep up your great work!
@Davemech
@Davemech 5 лет назад
Hi Steffen, great to hear you like the videos! This is unfortunately a tedious process. I do this by copying each pattern 1 by 1 to a new project. You can do this by copying a pattern, load the new project and paste it onto a pattern in that project. Elektron is going to implement project management into overbridge in the future though. Let's hope it will be soon :)
@steffendix1895
@steffendix1895 5 лет назад
Thanks for the fast reply! I tried that but it doesn’t copy the samples to the slots. And if it did it would overlap with patterns from other projects which use the same slot for a different sound... Do you have a system how to keep your samples organized to avoid that? Or is it just part of the tedious process to load the samples again onto the slots and finding new slots for the overlapping ones? Having that solved with over bridge would be a blessing! But since we are not there yet: It would be very interesting how you work around that.
@Davemech
@Davemech 5 лет назад
@@steffendix1895 ah yes that is the tedious part haha. For my live set I work within one project (for now, as I'm hitting the max of patterns). I use about 3 patterns per groove. I also have a spreadsheet where I keep track of which samples are used by which patterns. So in case I want to make a selection for a specific gig I have, I import all samples from the grooves I want to play I to the correct slots (select slot in project , func+yes. When there are overlapping ones, note down and change the sample slot of that pattern... I must admit I only do this with a few patterns at a time in the case I want to play a bit more relaxed set than normally for instance. Doing this starting with an empty project would be an afternoon's work I guess.
@steffendix1895
@steffendix1895 5 лет назад

Ah that's unfortunate. An instrument has to click with you. If it doesn't , better to move on. Or stick with it and go passed that point of frustration. IMHO it's worth it. Once you get it and have the muscle memory down it's a magic box.

Thank you Dave for your answer. I really appreciate that. Yes, certainly, this little magic box can do a lot. But I think I'm too old school for such new digital stuff. But these new digital magic boxes are a headache for me. Greetings from Berlin. 😊✌️
