Hello all, I forgot to mention that the oil/fuel for the lamps is really just a refined paraffin ( kerosene ), this eliminates that very strong smell the standard paraffin gives off. I recommend the refined oil or you will stink the house out ! and sod your lungs up in the long run ! I hope everyone is keeping well, good luck and take care in this very real simulation ! ha ha. yep its a good one ! 😆🤣

Parrafin is more refined than kerosene to be fair. So you really need to br careful here. Paraffin is relatively safe, kerosene is heating oil. Not safe.

I feel the power cuts will come very soon Jim , i look at the live energy mix and wind/solar has been low for a while now, they are using up a lots of gas to make up the shortfall, also our government have ask France to export more electric to us a few days ago ! but they are short themselves as some of their nuclear power stations are running at low capacity as they are doing some maintenance work. Get the army lamp ready mate ! dont look at the mantle when your lighting the lamp ! or is that poking the fire ?? take care of those mantles ! ha ha take good care Jim, see you soon.

Hello from Maryland, USA :) I can't see myself buying oil lamps but I have to watch because I enjoy your videos so much.. I have a smaller yard but it is full of raised garden beds. You have a good personality and sense of humor. We would make for great neighbors. Keep up the good work and the fight against the oppressive government over there. I hope it doesn't come to the states any more than it has already! Maryland tends to be very liberal but we got a win recently now we can concealed carry a firearm easily if we choose. Hello Zach, thanks for your kind words. Its getting bad over here ! towns and cities are having heavy traveling restrictions put in place for car owners ( only 100 journeys a year in restricted zones) this is coming next year unless the public protests can stop them ! the trouble is none of this is talked about on mainstream media ( like the BBC ) or even reporting the protests ! so many have not got a clue about what's coming or even going on ! too busy reporting on celebrities and other mind dumbing subjects for the masses ! our mainstream media is like a sluice gate pumping out a constant flow of raw sewage ! ha ha. Im so glad i live in the country, but to be honest i would like to be 50 miles remote from towns now, I'm only 12 miles from the nearest busy town , Super self sufficiency in the country is the only way i can see freedom in the future, they are forcing us to rely on them, that gives them the control they want ! ha ha not here though ! Thanks, good luck and take good care.

@@ESCAPINGTHEMATRIXFORGOOD I watch Sargon, Paul Watson and Count Dankula... I feel like I get a good sense of what's going on over there. I think the UK is a good bell weather for what might be spreading to the US. You're doing the right thing. I try to reduce my bills down as little as possible and only eat out of my garden. I wouldn't trust the BBC ... we have NPR. Basically government/corporation funded "news".... when they choose the news you hear and the spin ...you are getting lies of omission. Hello Bry, last night a watched a wartime farming documentary with the lamps on, it sets the mood perfect. I've seen some really nice lamps on eBay, £150 to £200 touch ! cranberry coloured shades are the most expensive from the very late 1800s to early 1900s, Mine are the cheaper ones that i can afford. I prefer the past and the old days, a more of a simple basic technology life where things lasted for ages ! . Hope your keeping well, i will pop by your channel to see you and see how your keeping, I'm still very busy decorating and doing repairs here. Thanks Bry , blessings sent.

Love our oil lamps. We always keep one on super low most of the night. The light is alot easier on the eyes if you wake up during the evening, our kids need abit of light. Out here in Spain, it gets dark, like pitch black at night, so the warm glow of the oil lamp is perfect. Here in Spain it's 5.50euro for a small bottle.... Need to find a cheaper supply I think. That or go fishing for a humpback, 🤭🤭🤭🤭

Hello Mark, i did have some ex British army lamps, Willis and bates VAPALUX M320 in NATO green., but i did not like the fact of having to pressurise them every few hours and use two different fuels. A different fuel to pre heat them. Methylated spirits and paraffin. Yes them lamps are very bright. I am trying to make my life more simple as I'm finding my work load is getting out of control on every aspect. Thanks for your comment and yes i do agree very much that them lamps are better. thanks and take good care.

Hi Gary, wow what a video matey . Really appreciate you going through all your lamps . I did try olive oil in my hurricane lamp the other night , there was a bit of paraffin so it was more olive oil with paraffin rather than the 25% you recommended. Going to go with the proper lamp oil leaving the paraffin for the hurricane lamps we use for going the wood shed. Won a nice lamp on eBay only £15 & from a hospice nice griffin chimney on it. So will be trying the lamp oil with that. Really want a duplex there’s one £40 with chimney & globe shade , & listening to the price you said you paid for yours plus buying a shade I’d say it’s a good price. Your duplex one is lovely & bright. The wall coach lamps are really fab, nice touch the wall holders you made. Facebook Marketplace in my area seems to have a few oil lamps on too, I bought a load of wick before we moved & won’t find it until spring when we repair the shed roofs and get the stuff in there. It’s all stacked in boxes in the dry at the minute. Thanks again! Really enjoy your videos 😊 entertaining but also informative!🤓

Wick that’s in , it’s ancient so I’ve ordered some off eBay they are made in Yorkshire for over 100 years vs Amazon where folks saying the wick was hollow and flattened so it burnt as fast as a match. Hoping within a week that the lamp oil and wick will arrive. Got my eye on a duplex ending in 3 days & we could pick it up on way through to visit family next week 👍🏻

We buy a nice store of candles to go with our oil lamps but also led lights for the kitchen, they take so little energy from our batteries but give off a lot of light. We have regular blackouts in winter and they do the job so we rarely need to use our other sources of back up lighting.

Morning Gary! As lovely as the old oil lamps are I think I'll stick with my rechargeable LED torches! We've also got a couple of LED strips ready for action, 3m long each, that run off any USB supply like a powerbank or the little magic box we keep in the camper to start it if the battery ever went flat. We've got a little 12v/5v power station in the hallway that runs off three big van batteries in the shed, and they are charged by a couple of small-ish solar panels on the shed roof. Nothing better than free power, if we had more money I'd have loads of solar panels and a big ol' battery in the house.

Hello, you cant beat free solar powered stuff, i am going to take my lighting circuit off the grid as soon as the weather gets better. You have done the right thing at your place, i think the power cuts are coming very soon, i check the real time energy use figures often and wind power has been very low the last week along with solar as well, gas use at the power stations has been high ! the government also had a chat with France to help import more a few days ago ! but France are short as well because they have put many nuclear power plants into standby for maintenance, or is the real reason a lack of uranium imported from Russia ?? Brace yourselves, i really do think planned blackouts are on there way soon ! ha ha, keep safe and well, thanks Simon.

Hello, always good to hear from you. At a guess i would say 1 litre in my duplex lamp would burn for over 35 hours, but a quick google give the figure of 1 gallon = 258 hours ! thats a lot, but i think this would be a single wick lamp not a duplex. So there is 4.5 litres in a UK gallon, 4,5 divided by 258 would give 57.3 hours burning per litre ! wow more than i though ! i do love numbers ! ha ha , thanks so much, hope your keeping well, take care.
