Only gym bros that are uneducated don't understand the importance of having a jacked neck, especially those who don't play contact sports. Good vid, also respect to this guy for being a Marine.

Without even doing neck training I have a 16 in. neck unflexed and 17.3 in. flexed, but I started doing these today. I stopped at 25 lb. for today. I am going to slowly take the weight up. I am so excited to have something I can do everyday. Mike is awesome, thanks for having him on.

Today, Phil and I have the great pleasure of interviewing Mike the Machine Bruce, who is known to have one of the strongest necks in the world. He is here to share his wisdom and advice regarding strength training and neck development strategies. Some of his best strength feats include a 1500lb rack pull, 90lb neck curl for 300 reps, a 300lb neck extension for 3 reps, and bending seven 5/8-inch steel bars across his throat in less than 60 seconds. It was great having him on here today and if you want to contact him you can check out his youtube channel and website. the SCM is responsible for neck curling and rotation so training that muscle serves both purposes. you don't need to train neck rotation if you train SCM in another way.

thats like saying you don't need direct lateral delt work to get it to it's max potential when it's hit during behind the neck press or ohp

Great interview guys...Mike has always been an inspiration to me. I found out about him through reading Bud Jeffries stuff. I made a device for neck flexion using a bite plate made from leather strapping, standing or seated, same motion as a head harness but I'm lifting with my teeth..awesome contraction and jaw builder

A lot of the old time strongmen were into teeth lifting, some of them would bend steel in their teeth and shit, I wouldn't try that but I like the idea of building up the jaw muscles, I feel like it would build up ones ability to take a punch, and its a fun way to train the neck

@AlphaDestiny Yo alex, what do you think about Micro Bulking/Cutting ? I think its a better Version of the traditional Recomping. I would do a 6 Week Bulk and a 2-3 Week Cut after that. Brandon Carter already made a Video about it, but what do you think?
@shawngadwa269
@shawngadwa269 7 лет назад
Here's a crazy idea I won't do (for fear of looking ridiculous), but I'd bet it'd work... get yourself a old cheap helmet. Like what you'd wear if you were riding a bike. Make sure it fits your head securely and the strap works good. Securely attach 3-4 D rings in various places around the helmet in a way that ensures they will never come out. You now have a $10 or less neck harness.
@AlexLeonidas
@AlexLeonidas 7 лет назад
Thing is, the helmet would end up breaking because it's not designed to hold a lot of weight. Hell, I had a real harness and the shit broke from only 90lbs.

Should I get a loading pin for when I do neck extensions off the floor or just let the weights stay on the floor make it harder
@AlexLeonidas
@AlexLeonidas 7 лет назад
Both options work equally as good. I'd say that with the loading pin the plates won't swing though so if you have it I'd consider using it that way.

Alex, is doing neck extensions laying on a stomach on a bench with the weight on the back of the head ok instead of harness?
@AlexLeonidas
@AlexLeonidas 7 лет назад
Yes but eventually it will get very awkward as the plates get bigger and the weight gets heavier.

I had that problem too, but I fixed it in one session by breathing with every rep, being hydrated and resting more between sets. Also stretch your neck between sets.
@MemoTraining

Probably breathing. Also the quick motion of the head. Try slow down the reps.

@therose7728
