I wish I would've found this video a few weeks back. I've exhausted myself trying to narrow down why my clutch wouldn't engage, no matter what I did (adjusting perch slack, case slack, putting a new cable, oem plates, aftermarket plates) I was almost to the point of taking it to a shop, then I noticed REALLY bad notching on the basket
Most clutch problems/ stalling is due to basket becoming grooved & plates become stuck not letting plates spin freely ,pressure plates can go on certain way with chamfered edge going towards engine & some models have single ball bearing between clutch push rod to help clutch drag at low rev's .
I was going to make a comment about the chamfered edge! Alot of people don't pay attention to that and mix and match them. I was guilty of that early on!
just got a kx125 with exact symptoms. took the cover off and yep the basket has deep grooves on the fingers. that plus the friction discs are pretty worn and the "oil" looked like wet clay... im surprised it moved at all.
I have a problem with clutch not grabbing, i put it in gear and let the clutch out the it wants to die unless i rev it ive been trying to adjust the cable but doesn’t seem to do anything might it be the basket or the clutches?
2012 KX 250: from Neutral, when i shift into 1st on my bike it stalls out like my clutch isn’t engaged. however if i bump start it, my clutch shifts fine and runs great. you think i should look at my clutch basket and plates like you did? i read it could be a 922000 washer being too thick . Any opinions help ! trying to get my bike back to healthy
I had the same problem with my 125 the power was just not there either at all like it should’ve been then I got a wiseco clutch kit and it has power like never before them grooves make a major difference in everything
Hey I noticed you didn't have the "holder" for after the big nut there. I don't have one either but it's in the manual! I'm gonna put mine together and try
got a brand new clutch in klx140 and we just got back from a 3-4 hour trail ride and she said it worked fine the whole time but when we got it off the truck, she went to shift into first and take off, only to find out that when she let out the lever that the bike did not take off. Clutch sounded to be partially engaged and making a whirring noise. If she took her weight off the bike it would move forward but when she sat back on it it would stop. Bike did not die during any of this either. Clutch cable seems like its adjusted fine just seems like some major slippage. any tips?
I got a gn400, haven't ridden in awhile..bike doesn't run quite yet but the clutch arm lever on the engine itself, doesn't seem to move except for about an inch of play? Is that normal?? Lol
Hey, i have a question about my clutch. I have a 4-stroke drz 125, and ny clutch seems to work fine until i try to dig a hole with my back tire. I put it in gear, hold in the front brake, and slowly let go of my clutch while i give it gas. The engine revs, but the tire doesn’t spin. I don’t know if i need to replace my clutch or just tighten it.
I need somebody’s help my clutch on my 1986 Kawasaki KX 125 will not engage no matter what I do if you have any suggestions please comment it will help
I opened mine up to put a boyson reed cover on and found that it recently had a Hanson clutch basket installed no grooves at all but there was a tiny bit of play on the basket is this normal and can the nut holding the basket on wiggle its way loose? 😮😢😢 also does anyone know of a decent digital tourqe wrench that starts at 5 lb and goes to at least 90 i need one to tourqe the clutch cover on and other parts to thanks in advance 👍
I have been racking my brain for the last 12 hrs trying to figure out why my son's clutch was not working correctly. I replaced the shifter rod on his KX85. I have redone the clutch at least 8 times. I think your video might have saved me. The basket has that grove issue. Time to go file. Thanks.
Make sure your son is shifting properly and using the clutch the way its intended because redoing it 8 times seems like a lot especially for a kid just assuming he cant be riding to hard.
@@herfeo202 the bike is a 2010. He's had it for about 4 months. When he would put it in first gear it would act like the clutch needed to be adjusted. I had to replace the shifter shaft due to it had gotten stripped. This was my first time I've worked on a dirt bike clutch. I did everything by the book. When I tried to put the bike in gear after I put it back together. It would stall like I hadn't used the clutch. In the end I just needed to file out the groves in the clutch basket. I was unaware that the groves on the basket was the issue. Works fine now.
I have a crf150r my rpms seem to go up really fast and the bike doesn’t really move until after a while. Is the clutch the problem and if so what should I do with it?
The manufacture manual has what tolerances are acceptable. I just take my calipers and measure. Also these weren't glazed over so I knew the surface was good.
My kx85 is doing the same too. I was told to let it warm up for 10 - 20 seconds and when I pull the clutch in and shift to first, as soon as I tap the gear lever, it just shuts off.
I just got a yz125. I'm pretty new to dirt bikes. Is there different oil that goes in the gear box than what you mix in your gas? If you have a 2 stroke.
@@romansavage7039 yeah there is a different oil. Trust me I've been there I put the wrong oil on my nike one time and the gearbox was messed up. You can check the manual or search it up for your specific bike
K. Yeah I'm waiting on the manual to come in the mail cuz I want able to find one for download for 2000 yz125. I swear I could find just about every other year. Thanks for the help though.
Hey, i have a question, i have a yz125 and the clutch is not engaging, that little actuator rod in the middle of the basket with the teeth on it is not grabbing anything, i cant figure out why. Any ideas? Thanks
I got a 03 kx100 I can’t seem to get it into neutral and when you try to move it it acts like it’s turning over so obviously if you can’t find neutral you would pull the clutch in but it won’t make a difference it still drags and I had to take the chain off to move it about, what could that be? Bent shift shaft? Maybe clutch wasn’t put together right? FYI I bought this bike from someone so you know how that goes. But it was a steal even as a roller, let me know what you think. I’ve been sitting on it for 6 months now
My 01 kx 125, has been nothing but issues. The current is that the clutch won't engage properly. If i have the bike in neutral, and pull the clutch in and shift into first, with the clutch in it goes straight into 1st gear as if the clutch isn't working. The clutch lever has pressure and moves the clutch plate, do you think whats done in this video will help me? or do you have any suggestions?
I have a KDX250 (KX with a headlight), I've had the same issue for a while, I was told by the "MASTER MECHANIC" at my local dealer to check the push rod that runs horizontal from the basket to the clutch cable arm attached to the engine. He told me they can get mushroomed on the cable end when riding hard and they make the throw of the clutch pull longer - so, when cable is longer it basically is never disengaging to allow it to be put into gear and still idle. Make sense to you?
Very informative video. I habe those same grooves on my basket and it does same as yours. I also have grooves on the inner clutch hub. It is not like the basket. How you file them?
i dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know a trick to get back into an instagram account? I somehow forgot my password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me!
@Crosby Ethan thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and im trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Hi I have a little problem! I have a little bike and for some reason I kicked the clutch and now the bike woudnt move ! And for some reason there's no gas coming into the round box holder mind giving me some advice ?
Hi, can you figure out or have any idea what is wrong with my Yamaha Dt125 I will tick over fine all day and I can Rev the throttle to full Rev but as soon as I let it go to low rev it dies,,? It has been like this for months I can ride it fine as long as I keep it over the that point where it dies if that makes any sense lol here's a video of it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OiMxqZZOvsQ.html
Johnnysshop I have tried messing with the idle, it's not that, my clutch is not working right what brought me to your video also my power valve system is not working as it should the cables snapped so I pinned it open, could that be a problem? Could it be an electrical fault? Like magnito ? it dies at the same point every time no higher rpm no less. Maybe the float is not set right in the carb I'm run dry with any other possibilities thank man
