Kovalam, in Thiruvananthapuram, is a picturesque coastal town renowned for its pristine beaches, swaying palm trees, and tranquil ambience. Kovalam Beach and Light House Beach are more popular than others.
We checked out of The Leela Kovalam, A Raviz Hotel, to explore a budget-friendly beach resort in Kovalam and came across Getaway Beach Resort, which was just 500 m away from The Leela Kovalam. Getaway Beach Resort was recently acquired by The Raviz Group and offers stunning views of the sea and beach from its balconies and backyard. A relatively small resort, but falls short of nothing. The rooms were beautiful, and the staff were warm and polite. The menu is limited, yet the food is delicious and cooked by experienced chefs.
In the evening, we went for a walk along the Kovalam beach road, visiting the many beaches along the way and exploring the market, cafes, and restaurants along the Kovalam beach road-all of this at a walkable distance from the Getaway Beach Resort.
The next day, we visited Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, the 5000-year-old world's richest Hindu temple. As our resort didn’t have a concierge, a car was arranged by The Leela Kovalam, thanks to Mr. Aji Padmanabhan, the club manager. Mr. Pradish, the temple committee member, provided us with a guided tour of the temple and explained all that we needed to know. You definitely need to understand the technique to clearly see the 19-foot-long and 8-foot-wide deity made of 12,008 saligramams and in eternal yogic sleep (Ananthashayana) posture visible through three doors.
We postponed our plan to visit Poovar the next time, as we have clearly understood that Kerala beaches and backwaters have a lot of rules and restrictions during the monsoons. Mind you, you aren’t allowed to set foot on the beaches during the monsoons in Kerala. Though we had more plans in Thiruvananthapuram/Trivandrum, i.e., to visit the iconic Indian Coffee House Maveli Cafe as well as try out some local delicacies, we had to cut short and move ahead with our journey.
Travelling educates and expands our mental horizons.
Please travel within your budget and convenience, but travel anyway.
