When I was your age I was in my first marriage with 2 kids and the struggle was REAL!!! It’s very refreshing to me to see people you and Tyler’s age making so much out of their lives!!!! I’m incredibly proud of you!!!! Enjoy your beautiful life and never ever let anyone make you feel ashamed for your accomplishments ❤❤❤❤

I used to watch a ton of beauty influencers (Emily Noel, Rachh Loves, Allie Glines, Kathleen Lights etc.). I have nothing against those lovely ladies, but you have morphed and grown and changed your channel as my life has changed as well. I have continued following you all these years (I've been following since around the time you got engaged) because you are more relatable to me. I am a SAHM and wife, so I am not buying a ton of new makeup. I'm also being more intentional about what I do buy, so I dont purchase very often. I love your lifestyle and home content! I agree about the phones! As parents we have to protect our kiddos and teens when they don't have the capacity to understand the dangers and consequences themselves.

it’s incredible to see how gracefully you acknowledge your privilege. truuuust that it never seems like you’re bragging. someone’s negative reaction to something positive happening for you has nothing to do with you if you’re standing in integrity with your choices 🩵

It actually insults and proves her concerns calling it her "privilege". Her life and their accomplishments are not privileges, but the direct consequence to what they have completely earned and worked extremely hard for in creating and building their life and family. Privilege is not earned, and her life is fully earned and it disrespects all their hard work and choices to call it privilege.

It’s so refreshing to hear another parent talk about not giving their kids a phone or social media. My kids are only toddlers too but I think about this a weird amount. Us “strict” parents need to stick together! 😂 but seriously protect your kids at all costs nobody else will do it if you don’t and when I heard that it really changed my perspective. No one cares about your kids the way you do.

My sister didn’t give my niece a phone until she turned 13yo. At this age she was having more after school activities and it really helps my sister know when to pick her up by her calling. I remember having to use the pay phone to call my mom, but I don’t think they have those in school any more. My nephews are in elementary school and neither one will have a cell phone until, they are teens. I don’t have kids but I like parents wanting their children to be kids for as long as they can. Childhood is so fleeting and by having kids play with others is so much better for development than to be distanced by technology.

Jessica, I so relate to your chat. I grew up in a tumultuous home with very little money and that is putting it lightly. I also saw a lot of domestic abuse, drug addiction, and neglect.. I am now 41 living this incredibly fortunate life with great kids and a husband who works so hard and is my best friend. I struggle with all of this because of how differently I grew up. I feel guilty, flat out. It’s almost like I just will never identify myself as someone living a happy life who doesn’t struggle financially. My husband who also grew up like I did has a hard time with owning a successful business. Guilt, all the time. One of the only ways I have been able to mitigate this is by giving to others as much as we can, and realizing that God has allowed us to have the opportunity to bless others. We have to also own the fact that we have persevered, worked hard and hold gratitude in our hearts for all we have but also for all we have been through because that taught us so much. It has given me tremendous insight as a parent, and gave me a huge heart for children living in poverty and abusive situations. My own kids were raised to always be advocates for others, and to be grateful for how they live. And I pray they continue to live with a humble and grateful heart in this broken world. Much love..❤

Speaking as someone who is probably your mom's age, I think your parents can see how life is different for you than it was for them, and in the end all they want is for you to be happy. They know you have a good head on your shoulders! Siblings might experience some jealously, but surely they too just want you to have a great life.

I hope you believe us when we say we don’t think you brag about anything. I love being happy for you! If someone has a negative reaction to what you share and the choices you make in your life, it’s a reflection of what they’re feeling about themselves. Some people are not ready to face their triggers and deal with the hard stuff within. That’s not something you should let stop you from celebrating yourself and the results of your hard work! Thank you for sharing with us 😊

As someone who grew up with my mom also doing all the cooking and cleaning, I have learned to shift my mindset that the keeping of the home is not just for the woman. My husband eats and uses dishes and wears clothes too. You are equals, partners and the tasks of the home should be shared because you both live there. Don’t feel guilty to letting your husband cook for you, especially if he enjoys it and it could be part of his love language. 😊 I really enjoyed this video.

I am an "older" subscriber, I believe. (71) But I couldn't agree with you more about the "guilt". I have always felt that way - and was afraid to tell folks some things because it would sound like "bragging". Being brought up to think it sounded conceited to talk about good things about yourself has a lot to do with it. Not that being brought up that way was a bad thing - it's just how things were. Even now, when we plan a big trip I feel like even my kids (grown up) will think we are bragging about the fact that we are able to do this. Right now as a matter of fact we have a trip to Disney in September booked and I just booked a beach trip to Mexico in October and felt guilty telling my daughter (yesterday) about the Mexico trip! It's weird, but it's definitely a thing!! Love watching your videos and love your family!!

2 comments I’m so thrilled to hear you talk about. 1) Kids/youth with cell phones. I’ve seen what my phone has done to me and I want better for them. I think more & more people are waking up to this and the more we talk about it, the easier it will get. 2) I’m so glad to hear you got help around the house. Like you said, it may be just for a season. And as your kids get older and can help with chores around the house, that too will make it easier. Your & Tyler’s mental health is so important to the mental health of your whole house. You 2 are very busy and productive people. I think it’s good for the kids to also see you modeling asking/getting help so they can ask when they need help too. My Mom did everything growing up. She worked full time, did all the cooking, we kids helped with housework. But she was stretched so thin and we all saw what it did to her.

My thought: I was a stay at home mom for 11 years and i used to get the “it must be nice” comment a lot! It actually bothered me only because its still A LOT of work! And people dont realize that. You never get to clock out and leave work there. So it got frustrating but on the other hand it WAS VERY nice! My husband and i got to a place and it worked well for our situation and everyone is different. At that, i would never let someone else’s opinions or jealousy change my appreciation of the life i lived (many things have changed since then so its not all the same now) so dont let snarky comments or even the fear of make you less open to be proud of where you have come in your life. It wasnt just handed to you, its taken a lot of work and planning and trust in Gods plan that has brought you here!!! Sending all my love to you and your family ❤️

I recently hired a cleaning company solely so I could spend more time with my young son. I felt I was missing out on too much because of the time I spent cleaning. It took me a long time to realize the cost/benefit of such a service and I also felt guilt about it as someone who grew up in a very low income household. I didn’t want to tell my mom and when I did, her reaction was surprisingly that of pride - that we had come so far that we could afford it, that we realized we needed the help and sought it out, etc. As moms, we put these “shoulds” on ourselves that are unrealistic - i.e. we “should” be able to do it all. By hiring the cleaning service, you are making a choice that it is good for your family and you should take comfort in that decision! No judgment!

I’m there with you 110%. For example, my husband has a ridiculously successful business. I’m a RN and only work part-time, basically just to keep my clinical skills up. My mom retired four years ago and started cleaning on the side for extra money. We pay her to clean our house weekly when we truly don’t need it (because I’m here and our kids are older), but there’s no way she wouldn’t let us give her money. So, I always feel terrible for her to be here cleaning my house when we could easily give her money every month and I could clean the house. It’s just one of those terrible feeling things. A lot more conflict comes with privilege than most people think. Staying as humble as you are is key. You’re fabulous 💗

Regardless of lifestyle differences you are still extremely relatable. You are grateful. You are humble. Anyone of us would hire a house cleaner or travel often if we were in your position. When God has blessed you with abundance, accepting those blessings is being grateful to Him. And if God tests you with adversity, being patient in those times is being grateful to Him. Live your life unapologetically. Free your mind from what other people might think. You are yourself and thats why we love you. You aren’t fake. The other day I asked my husband what would be the first thing he would buy if we had unlimited means. He said a personal chef and I agreed, lol.

I can totally relate and understand the feelings and thoughts u describe. Similar upbringings, similar “roles”seen in my life, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to realize some of this guilt we feel comes from the patriarchy and misogyny. Sometimes those two things happen inadvertently with the best of ppl in our lives, it’s not that our mother’s were abused necessarily , but watching them play that patriarchal role is in our raising and it leads to feelings like this. Also, if a woman makes more money then her husband, that’s another facet of those two issues. So, for me, I have to tell myself that how we choose to run our home and what works for us and the successes I have as a woman are perfectly normal. It’s okay to feel these things but don’t let them hold u back please, love ya Jess! ❤

I totally understand the feeling of guilt around successes that maybe you don’t feel worthy of or maybe you don’t want other people to feel badly about not being able to do. It’s a weird experience, but just remember the whole “it must be nice” is a never-ending cycle. Because something those same commenters are doing might fall into the “must be nice” category, we just don’t know because they aren’t posting it online. There’s always someone doing better and always someone doing worse, it’s unrealistic to expect everyone to do the exact same thing, regardless of situation.

Jessica, sweet Jessica! Whoever says, "must be nice..." in order to guilt you about your life, I don't care what it is... that person is not worth worrying over. Anyone who is worth worrying over will say we are so proud of you and happy for you and love to see your family thriving and making precious memories. Because that's the honest truth! The kind of talk that makes you feel guilty is just jealousy. "Your people" will be the ones who turn that jealousy into happiness for you and your family. That's just what it is. Please do not feel like you have to guilt yourself over anything because it is a different day and age. Two income households were not as typical as they are now, and those jobs all look very different. Grow, adapt, and support the people you love. That's what it's all about. 💖

I totally relate with the guilt aspect of not doing things the way we saw it done growing up! My mother is an AMAZING cook, and even with a full time job all of the cooking/cleaning/household management was left to her. I also love to cook. I used to cook some delicious, unique supper for about an hour every evening, but last year our lives got super busy. When everything came to a head I realized I had to let go of some beliefs like "I am loved if I do all the cooking and make an incredible meal every night." I started meal prepping, allowing my husband to cook his own food when I'm too busy (I used to be genuinely offended if he cooked his own food.) Now we both eat what we want, prepping a little at a time, and life is sooooo much easier. Dinner is no longer this big stressful to-do looming over me each day. Also, I am a house cleaner, PLEASE do not feel guilty for using a cleaning service! You are supplying people with a job. And I love what I do! If I've learned anything being a housecleaner, it's that most people are way too busy to keep their house clean! If you are blessed enough to afford it, take advantage of that! You don't deserve to feel shame for it.
@shabamflam

Also, I serve clients from all walks of life and income brackets. It's really not something only millionaires can afford. More people use house cleaners than you might think.

Girl same on the guilt. I work from home 3 days a week and still can’t stay on top of everything and it gets me down to admit I can’t do it all. Mom shame/ guilt is such a theft of our joy in all the things we’re doing well. Good for you to be able to have help! I’d take it but totally understand the guilt. I don’t think that goes away but it’s a good endeavor to try to balance it all and keep a positive perspective. Love you guys ❤

I would assume I am around your parents age and like you I grew up with a mom who was a traditional homemaker. I cannot tell you how happy I am that you got a cleaning service. It is a gift to you and that gift gives back to you being able to spend more time with your kids, with Tyler, And most importantly giving back to you! Thank you! I think your honest chats are one of the many things we appreciate about you. And it makes you even more relatable because we realize we’re not alone with similar struggles, like guilt, perfectionism etc. On a total random side note, after you wash berries, if you put a piece of paper towel in the container you’re going to store them in, it helps absorb extra moisture and they last way longer on the fridge without going mouldy :) I also always put a piece of paper towel inside those boxed lettuce - like mixed greens or arugula… keeps it fresh and lasts way longer!

Just be reassured that no matter what you share (and we respect that you feel comfortable doing that), there will always be a chunk of us who have lived through it ourselves. It’s a different world than when our roles were pretty well defined. One of our dons has always worked in the area he studied in college, but the other has gone in a completely, unexpected direction and is loving it. You used the word “blessed” and it’s refreshing to hear when someone acknowledges their blessings.

It’s so funny when you were talking about how you were raised vs now regarding travel habits, I feel similar but in a different way. I also grew up in a family where we really didn’t travel, it was financial mainly but also just not our habit. We did a couple trips throughout my childhood but it was a rarity. Now that I’m an adult, I’m single but I’m just NOT a solo travel person, and I find that trying to coordinate travel with people you don’t live with is next to impossible! Plus it is a big expense, which I could manage on occasion but because of the aforementioned reasons I basically don’t travel even now as an adult. But it seems like everyone where I’m from travels frequently, at least one trip a year or more, and when people inevitably ask “oh got any trips planned this year?” I feel kind of weirdly self conscious being like umm nope. None. 😂 I don’t know why I would but everyone seems to react like it’s so strange I’m not travelling.

It makes me so happy to see people making decisions that are best for their own family unit!!! A few years ago we transitioned into me (wife/mom) working full time while my husband transitioned into a day at home dad. At the same time we moved to a VERY traditional area where that is NOT accepted lol it’s been hard to connect with people but it has been the absolute BEST for our family unit. I had to get very comfortable saying that we’re doing what’s best for us in this season, things may change in the future, but it’s working for now…and it has been sooo freeing!

I appreciate how genuine you are. When people watch you, they assume you have this amazing life with no worries. To know that you struggle with the same things that” normal moms” do is encouraging. We’re supposed to build each other up and not tear each other down whether it’s a mom with a new baby through to the moms who’s children are adults. We all struggle supposed to encourage each other.

Rubbermaid Brilliance food storage is amazing for keeping food good for much longer, especially produce. I bought everyone I know sets for Christmas, and now all are hooked. You can get plastic or glass versions, and they come in all sizes. I prep all produce in them now, and nothing goes bad. My kids pushed a large container with strawberries behind things so they were forgotten. Over two weeks later, they were still as fresh as when I first bought them, and strawberries never last well. I now prep all lettuces and store in them, and have not had lettuce go bad since. With what I have saved in not throwing away food has paid for them many times over.
