I probably shouldn't go after my spouse's and child's stuff until I throw away every jar I've saved "just in case". 😂

The way you have your Dad's things nicely displayed is a beautiful way to remember and honor your dad. Having tons of stuff crammed in boxes in the garage doesn't benefit or show respect to you or them.

It’s a lifelong journey and there are already more things to learn - and yet, we need to take ACTION as part of the journey! You can do this ( & then reward yourself with more resets h if that makes you happy! LOL)

All 4 are me: procrastination, indecision, nostalgia and motivation! 😱

All I really have that was my Mom's is her locket and the cookie cutters she used when she made Christmas cookies with us when we were kids. I AM sentimental about the cookie cutters, so I shared one in an art project I did for a Christmas gift, I kept my favorite 4 with my baking stuff, I kept a few that were suitable for tree ornaments and the rest were donated AFTER I offered them to my sisters and daughter. I feel I'm keeping a few "Mom treasures" in a small curated collection and sharing the rest with others who may start traditions of their own! 😊

Can SO relate to that feeling of not being able to depart with something I might use one day! For me it's mostly fabric and craft items. I am getting better at letting go, and not bringing things into the house unless they have a place and purpose. After decluttering my parents' home (they lived through the depression) I know I don't want to leave a big mess for my children to deal with when I'm gone - that is unfair!

Research! Yes! When l am uncertain or unenthusiastic about a task, I always go on RU-vid, which I call "research". Sometimes, it is!

I’m not a parenting or child psychology expert, so I’m not sure of why or how to handle this. One thing you can try to do is to get them to identify some trash though and maybe take it from there? And you can gently point out that if we want to have space to play and keep our favorite things, then we can’t keep ALL the things. 🙏🏼💛

@MinimalistHome it was just an observation of other children( not mine) that they have great attachments to things like stones, seashells, pinecones etc. I love the idea of the container concept. You can keep your favorites that fit and what doesn't fit has to go. BTW, I have turned my notifications back on so I don't miss your videos. Now for a cup of tea!

For me I see the $$ that I spent and feel bad getting rid of it. I was with a DS company for 20+ years so demo products, gifts purchased for team, incentives blah blah well the company went to ecommerce rather than DS . Now I have all the stuff and feel horrible giving it away or whatever. Plus, diagnosed with ADHD at 53 and one of my issues was spending so i know I bought WAY too much so guilt there also. And i do not have the patience to try and sell on ebay or wherever

Thank you Robyn, for the mirror. I recognize a few patterns for myself. Certainly some food for thought. And a good kick up the arse🙃 to continue with the not so easy layers to declutter 🥴 💪 in my house 🏡🙋🇳🇱

"Generational imprints." That's a good way to put it. Things that previous generations LIVED BY, and are hard for us to let go of even though it's not pertinent to our culture anymore. I too!k your quiz, and couldn't relate to most of the questons! (Not a Bronte/Austen fan!) And much of my "procrastination" is health related ... pain and fatigue make it hard to dig in, so I don't think that fits in your 4 categories ... maybe procrastination but not really. And I need physical help moving some things and don't have help.

Do not do someone's else's stuff. Taking someone else's stuff is theft. Singly decluttering communal stuff is also theft.

A parent chooses what is good for their child. It's a responsibility.

@Smithpolly

Looked at another way, you could say that taking someone's else's space by stuffing it with all your stuff is theft.
@ros8986
@ros8986 2 дня назад
@@Smithpolly Totally true - many, if not most, people with a lot of stuff believe that because they (CHOOSE) to have a lot of stuff, they "need" and are entitled to a lot of space. Except, someone in a wheelchair or needs a rollator to get around is entitled to have clear pathways to get to everything and everywhere in a home.
@ros8986
@ros8986 2 дня назад
@@Nan-ir9ct true, but as much as possible let the child have ownership of their things, let them participate in choosing to move on to new things. And of course some children are too young to understand.
