If you have a side facing port open the opposite furthest door. If you’re trying to project the bass

I mat heavily and tune low. Windows up it's quiet, but windows down it definitely comes out. My Volt has a hatch and both ports are firing back with my 6th order, so all the sound comes back forward.

I love it! Your deadening and low quarter wave totally make the bass alive when the windows roll down! 6th orders also help with the loading when built correctly! Thanks for sharing!

I have a big b pillar 4th order with 6 15s doing 160db at 42 and 155db at 26hz. Can hear mine about 2 miles away with windows down and even on low power rn. In a 98 yukon.

At slam this year the southern thunder tahoe had 8 15s on 30kw. And it was SUPER loud outside the car, because the doors were rattling and everything in the car was shaking. Right next to it was the Gately Slam Halen. It's got 6 12s on 18kw. It was way louder inside the truck, but it was almost quiet on the outside. And I think it's because slam halen was a smaller cabin with absolutely no rattles. A more extreme example was when I went to Usaci finals. I stood next to Carlos' van Delilah when he did a 180 db burp. And I had to ask him if he just burped, because it was quieter than the systems across the building that were playing and testing in the mid 150s
@biguzivert
@biguzivert 11 месяцев назад
I have absolutely no experience with those systems but I imagine that you’d want to be as quiet as possible on the outside. Because that’s lost sound that could be increasing your spl inside.
@caraudiolab

Delilah also burps with doors closed, but I am also surprised at how quite it is outside with a 180+ inside.

has absolutely nothing to do with cabin size or sound deadening. All the cars ive heard including my silverado were louder outside because of huge windows and strong door panels and solid roof. All japanese cars / newer cars you can barely hear outside because theyre made with thin sheet metal that vibrates a lot and cancels a ton of shit out + small windows. Dashboard shape affects this too.

But yea every car is different. I have a dodge caliber with 2 8s sounds amazing and low inside the car. But outside was very underwhelming. In my truck 2 8s sounds so much more louder outside the truck. Definitely the vehicles resonance plays a big factor
@caraudiolab

Cars back in the late 80s and 90s used to be louder outside the car. At least to me anyways. You could hear em coming from a long ways away
@caraudiolab
@caraudiolab 11 месяцев назад
That’s totally due to how they were built! They used to reflect more bass back in the day!

So you want to tune your system with the windows down to sound loud outside the car?
@BigYank33700

And i normally let the windows down half way at the most. The subs unload if the are rolled down too far at higher volumes

My Juke unloaded with three windows download. It wasn’t so bad with two down. However, it was always underwhelming with windows Dow or doors open.

@caraudiolab I'm still experimenting to see what works. I have an old school phoenix gold bass cube. I keep it dialed in on 27hz. That's my low peak. High peak is 51hz. I epicenter that. Me and my volt love the lows, lol

@caraudiolab
@caraudiolab 11 месяцев назад
@@BigYank33700 Modern decks do a lot of system processing now. I still think they can help quite a bit depending on the source signal. My buddy swears by them and he ran a car audio shop for 20 years. I am actually looking at adding a DSP to my van build but am still deciding that. I haven't used the original bass cube, personally but I know Phoenix gold is awesome stuff! I still have a couple of their amps, call it nostalgia! They were my dream amp back in the 90's! lol

Would compression drivers help with the sound of the mids to travel outside
@caraudiolab
@caraudiolab 8 месяцев назад
With mids/highs, its more about having them close to the window so the sound isn't getting caught/cancled/muffled in the vehicle before it exits. But, it is possible that something like a compression driver might help. I haven't done enough testing to really know.

My boy had an Old Civic With 2 JL 12s Dynamat with great amps and that thing was loud Asf on the outside. I have an HHR with a similar setup But it does not get super loud on the outside. What could be the cause to this? The shape? Also, how would a car like a Ford flex Sound on the outside with a nice system inside plenty of power considering how that car is shaped?
@caraudiolab
@caraudiolab 5 месяцев назад
The shape, box design, box style, amount of subs, power, where it is located, cabin mods, etc can all make big differences to how loud it is outside.

Thank you for answering my question !I asked for it because here in Tahiti, the objective is to transform your car into a portable speaker and play music for all the people present , here for you an exemple : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-65m6XoJp1m8.htmlsi=IAGpK68DmwElZDi9 Most setups have their subs facing foward and I was wondering if it was better to have them facing the back... what do you think about it?
@dqmnjohn_4491
@dqmnjohn_4491 7 месяцев назад
in any case, your videos are really interesting for me who is a beginner , and I see that the opinion is shared by everyone
@caraudiolab
@caraudiolab 7 месяцев назад
Thanks for the video! Facing subs forward for higher bass (like maybe 40hertz to 100 hertz) make sense. This is also louder in general. Subs preform better in that range in general. It is the conventional norm. Facing the subwoofers backwards is better for lower bass, like under 40 hertz. This depends a little bit on the car size and length, but typically lets the bass wave better form because of the length. I don't know if rebassed music is popular down there, which specializes in lower bass. If not, I can see why they face subs forward. However, I have tinkered with actually facing subs backwards using just enough space between the vehicle and box to let the bass wrap around the car like a port that it gets stupid loud. However, that tends to happen within a range of frequencies. equipment
@caraudiolab
@caraudiolab 7 месяцев назад
@@dqmnjohn_4491 I can see that my comment got cut off. It really depends on your equipment, length and the music you are playing (for frequency purposes). However, I think if you are playing regular stock music, maybe a parallel tuned (not series) 6th order double bandpass tuned to 45/90 hertz may be an awesome option! Get a sensitive sub with a higher fs with decent power handling for this application. If possible get the Sundown Uv1, for this, they are on sale for $300 american. This is a great music/spl sub that is almost half off right now because Sundown came out with the version 2. However, if you already have your subs, no worry. you still have lots of options!
@dqmnjohn_4491

Rebass music is popular here, (less than 40hz), but I'm afraid the build lacks punch, (I love low bass but I also like when you feel a kick in the chest ...) I'm fickle I know hahaha.
@dqmnjohn_4491
@dqmnjohn_4491 7 месяцев назад
Maybe the lack of punch can be resolve by the PA speaker we use for vocals and high ...

would a flat wall vs a 6th order bandpass make a difference? which one would be louder outside?
@caraudiolab
@caraudiolab 8 месяцев назад
Probably which ever one is louder in the vehicle, if they both peak at the same spl, I would say the 6th just because it would have a greater bandwidth that would appear louder over music than the ported flat wall.
@TheGamingChad.
@TheGamingChad. 8 месяцев назад
@@caraudiolab Why some 6th order bandpasses have subs facing forward, and others facing the left side? Despite having room to do either one of them.
@caraudiolab
@caraudiolab 8 месяцев назад
@@TheGamingChad. That completely depends on the goal of the 6th. Facing forward is used for demo and daily builds because it pressurizes the cabin evenly. Subs facing one side is used for competition, because it pressurizes the side of the cabin where the mic goes and gets a louder better score there. It can also be a good daily or demo build as well, but usually competitors do that.
