In this episode, I'm riding to a small town in Colorado called 'Nederland'. Being from The Netherlands, I HAVE to visit this place of course! What I did not see coming, was that I had to ride through snow for the last 25 kilometers. And all of that in my summer gear! Oh dear...

A tip: If you must have to ride in chilly weather without proper winter-wear then wear your backpack on your chest. Because your chest is one of the most vulnerable area, where you can catch cold and your bag is not at all penetrable by chilly winds. Other important areas to cover are nose, ear and throat. My father taught this and it helped me a lot.

Good tips, I rode like that when going longer distances on my snowmobile. Definitely effective, also wore warm floatation gear, don’t think the floatation gear is needed on a bike though 😂

I was in a similar situation once in Wyoming, cold, soaking wet, and miles to go through snow. I stopped at a grocery store, took some of those one-use plastic bags from the meat department, bought a roll of electrical tape, and fashioned waterproof "mittens" over my gloves, wrapping the palms and wrists with the tape. The other customers looked at me like I was weird or something. Don't know why.

For viewers wondering where exactly the wilderness rides are : At the 15:20 mark Noraly is riding out of Woodland Park CO into the Rampart Range and into what we affectionally call 'The Platte' along the South Platte river deep in the mountains of Pike National Forest. An incredibly beauitful and way out there place. Numerous forest service roads weave thru the area you really can get away from it all here. The fishing in the Platte is exceptional and the Rock Climbing is adventurous to say the least. Skipping across Interstate 70 Noraly gets on Hwy 72 the 'Peak to Peak Highway' up to Nederland a funkly old mining town now filling with rich hipsters and their million dollar homes. The old mountain folk are still here though and the hospitality with them. So glad you were able to route your trip thru Colorado ...theres no place like it !

Sabina Hi, I don't normally comment that much, but I have to say this anyway. I am a 57 year old woman, and your videos made me decide to buy a motorcycle. Not one to ride around the world (never been on a bike, let alone ridden one) But as I'm not tall (1.60m) I decided for a mini...the Honda Monkey 125cc to start. Of course I still have to learn to drive first, but next spring I will definitely explore BE and NL. So thank you for giving me the courage and that "Itchy" feeling to do this. Sabina

Lived in Colorado for 30 years of my life. The weather is unpredictable there, but the local rule is to "wait 5 minutes, it will change". It's taken many a hikers life. You set out in shorts and a t-shirt for a mountain hike on a blue sky day only to have a white out snow storm blow in. They sneak up on you in the mountains. The temperature can swing 50+ degrees and before you know it, the trails gone with a sheet of white and you are freezing. Anyway, the rule of thumb is to always dress in layers and tell someone where you went.
@madman3826
@madman3826 Год назад
As a native of colorado I can can say that everything you just said is true 😆. If there is one bit of info I can give the visitors to Colorado that could save their lives, it is that you need to always carry water with you. If you are hiking always bring a good jacket with you and always leave room for a good pair of pants (not made out of cotton), and a pair of good socks in your backpack. Even if it is the middle of June or july, depending on how far up into the mountains you go, you could go from temperatures in the 80s to below zero in a matter of hours.

I've ridden in all weathers in my 50 plus years of riding so I understand how it feels to be slightly unprepared and end up with fingers going numb with cold. Inner gloves and layers have been my saviour on many occasions. Beautiful, gorgeous scenery this trip and shocking, by European standards, to see Peaks Pass is not lined with crash barriers along the drop-side of the road. Wow! Great channel! I just discovered your channel the other day and I've been watching your clips ever since! I've been riding off road motorcycles since spring of 1969 and am still riding. (I am 70 years old.) I too, have been caught in some miserable weather... but those are the rides you remember the most! Next time your hands are freezing: Stop, leave the bike idling, and grip the silencer with your gloved hands. It will act like a hand warmer and it feels SO GOOD to thaw out your fingers. You can also use the exhaust coming out of the silencer on your gloved hands as a finger warmer. I will often take of my heavier gloves and stuff them between the muffler and body parts so they can get thoroughly warm, and wearing my liner gloves, I will warm my fingers using the exhaust coming out of the tail pipe and/or also the holding the silencer with my hands. When finished, and you put on your pre-warmed heavier gloves they will be toasty warm and they will feel great. Best of luck and ride safe!

I can’t never could… just do it! That’s Noraly! She can overcome any problem, one way or another. Colorado definitely offers weather to suit almost anyone. Pikes Peak is definitely a great ride, the views are phenomenal! You ended the snowy day in great accommodations! Thanks for sharing another day in your adventure! Ride safe Noraly!

I'm so happy you went up Pike's Peak! I haven't been since I was a child living in Colorado. And yes, all the stream and pine trees are gorgeous as always beautiful Colorado is. I live in Australia now. What a lovely taste of a land I once knew. Thanks Noraly!

It's so much fun to experience the world through your eyes Noraly. You have an eye and sense of curiosity that just makes each episode, regardless of what happens, enthralling to watch and listen to. The journey up Pike's Peak has me wishing I didn't pass it up when I was in Colorado. Perhaps another day. One other thing I'll add... A friend said to me once, "I bet you would really like to ride with Itchy Boots." I thought about it for a minute and said "No, I don't want to ride with her. I want to ride like her. Alone, on my own, with my eye on the road ahead." For him riding is a social activity. For me it's not. And that's what I like about the Itchy Boots channel content. But as she's riding through the US, I have to wonder, did she ride to South Dakota to take in the Sturgis experience???

I think she is well into Canada when the Sturgis gathering was taking place. The videos air several weeks after her passing through an area, I think. I'm guessing this video was in late May to mid-June, judging by the snow accumulation on Pikes Peak.

I’ve watched all your videos. They are great! I can’t believe you actually stopped in a place I lived (Nederland) while a student at CU in Boulder decades ago. A 10,000 mile trip around the western US and Canada on a Triumph T100C after getting out of the Marine Corps led me to moving to the west. Been through several bikes since then and still riding.

What can I say, but thank you for sharing this video which had made me teary eyed as you made your way up to Pike's Peak. Its so beautiful Noraly. Thank you for this. On the other hand, I am hoping that you didn't catch a cold after that cold, wet, snowy ride you had... At the beginning of this season, I am sure that I had seen that video when your ordered winter gears arrived, so in the back of my mind, I was asking why isn't she wearing them? But you had answered it too on this video that you had sent it up north already, not anticipating that you'll be needing it this early along the way....hoping really that you are alright, okay and warm. Best of luck Noraly. Keep safe

Amazing views of the Rocky mountains from the drone. Noraly never disappoints her viewers. Colorado in June: snow, rain, hail. You can get all three in one afternoon in the mountains. Hail being the worst thing to ride through by far. Depending on her route she hasn't seen the last of the snow. Ride safe!
